WORDLESS POST: TINUBU REMAIN SEATED WHILE GREETING OONIRISA

The manner in which Bola  Ahmed Tinubu , the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress greeted the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwus,OJAJA II,at the coronation of the Oniru of Iruland , Oba Omogbolahan Lawal has been raising dust on social media .

In a video  which had gone viral , Tinubu had remained seated as he greeted the Ooni ,and Oniru were the only ones who remained seated as the Ooni made his way to his reserved seat at the event.

Yinka Odumakin , who is the spokesman for the pan -Yoruba group , Afenifere , said that the Tinubu should have stood up as a sign of respect for the first class monarch .

Odumakin said, “ We are still Yoruba people . With due respect to our royal fathers , we should not say because we are in a modern age , we should not give the proper respect that we give to our oba . You saw the time former President Obasanjo prostrated before the Ooni . So, it is still our culture and we must sustain our culture and give the respect that is due to our monarchs. ”

Former minister of Aviation , Femi Fani -Kayode ,Via his Twitter handle ;  said, “ That the Asiwaju of Bourdillon refused to stand up to greet the Ooni of Ife speaks volumes . This was not only deeply insulting to every Ife and indeed son and daughter of Odua but it is also a crying shame. Would a northern political leader refuse to stand up for his traditional ruler ?”

Retired Activist @ streetprince007 said , “ Tinubu is not a Yoruba man. A Yoruba man knows what to do . That ’s all I can say . ”

Mafe Sunday @mafe _ sunday said, “ For a typical Yoruba man to defend this disrespecting act shows that we are fast losing it , if Obasanjo , a former president and an older man than Tinubu , can prostrate before Ooni , he has no excuse not to prostrate. This is us, this is who we are, this is our culture , our identity. ”

OONI ENITAN OGUNWUSI IS THE REALITY OF OUR TIME~~ WOLE SOYINKA

The Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, sometime ago that the position of Olugbo of Ugbo, Oba Frederick Akinruntan, who described Moremi Ajasoro as a traitor did not deserve any response.

He contended that “the position of Olugbo does not touch the reality on Moremi and his position does not deserve a response or not worthy of response”.
He said, “There is controversy about the origin of someone whom we know as the origin of Yoruba race, kingdom, black race and humanity. The controversy may continue for long but the reality I that Kabiesi, the Ooni of Ife above all Ile-Ife is the cradle of humanity.

“We know what we know; we know what we accept and believe and that remains the fact. I have just gone to see the statue of Moremi and the controversy on Moremi her, I have heard. I learnt that some people said that Moremi, the heroine, is a traitor. That does not touch any part of reality of what Moremi is or was. And I don’t want you (Ooni) to spend any time or energy at all responding to counter or alternative theories. It is not necessary.”

According to him, the influence of Ile-Ife transcends Nigeria and Africa. “If you walk on the street of Cuba or Brazil, somebody will tap you on your shoulder because they know you are black, they say ‘who are you?’ And you say ‘I am Osun, Ogun, Sango’. At the end, they will ask you how is the Ooni? It means the Yoruba race, culture is beyond this environment,” he added.

Describing Ooni as the Yoruba’s reality, he maintained that the race’s culture had gone beyond speculation, just as he said “it is natural and spiritual. The historical status of   Ile-ife as the cradle of the mankind remains incontrovertible and Ooni Enitan Ogunwusi is the reality of our time”.

OBAS COUNCIL GIVES OLUGBO 4 DAYS TO WITHDRAW STATEMENT OVER SUPERIORITY

Coming after reports of where the Olugbo of Ugbo land was quoted saying  “I am the leader of all obas in Yoruba land. I speak with thunder in my mouth and I make bold to say so. No one is above me in Yoruba land in as much as it has been accepted that we are from Ife. I am the one that Oduduwa met at Ife. We are the husband of Moremi Ajasoro. Anyone who wants real Yoruba blessing should approach me. I am the one bestowed with the power.”

He has been described as a rabble rouser and an attention-seeking monarch, for declaring himself as the leader of all Yoruba Obas by the Secretary General, Council of Yoruba Obas, Oba Aderemi Adedapo.

But Oba Adedapo, who is also the Olojudo of Ido Osun, said the Olugbo’s claim was untrue. Adedapo  said this while speaking with Punch's correspondent in Osogbo on Monday.

According to Oba Adedapo, no one could rewrite history of the Yorubaland now in order to suit his purpose, saying the Ooni of Ife remained the leader without any controversy. Oba Adedapo, who is also the Coordinator, South-West Council of Traditional Rulers, said the late Ooni, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, was  highly instrumental to Oba Akinruntan’s ascension to the throne.

He said, “Oba Akinruntan is an attention seeker. He is a rabble rouser, he deserves no response but some people especially outside the country may tend to believe his claim if he is not corrected.

“His utterance is part of royal rascality we are talking about. Does he want to rewrite history or what? Nobody can rewrite history. The late Ooni Sijuwade made it possible for him to become the Olugbo.

“He must withdraw that statement within the next 96 hours which is four days. What he is saying is abominable in Yorubaland.”

Punch reports that the monarch said Olugbo, was not part of the 54 Yoruba Obas with original crown, saying he was using various tactics to draw attention to himself. The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, when contacted on the supremacy claim by Olugbo of Ugboland, was said to have travelled to Lagos.

His media aide,  Baaroyin Lai Labode, said the monarch was out of town. He said he would need to brief him on the issue when he returned from the trip.

He said, “Kabiyesi has travelled to Lagos, and until he returns. I need to talk to him on the issue, whether or not he will want to comment on it.”

Also, the Olu of Ilaro and paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, said he would not comment on Olugbo’s claim. The personal assistant/media aide to Oba Olugbenle, Bolaji Leigh, while reacting to the issue on behalf of the monarch, said, “Good day my brother, Kabiyesi will not comment on that.”
