POLICE BRUTALITY: A POLICEMAN ALLEGEDLY BRUTALISED HUSBAND& WIFE IN LAGOS!!!

The photo you are looking at is that of one Ejeh Smith, 29, a photographer by profession and his wife, Grace, 26. The couple alleged that a policeman, identified as Dada Ogunsanya attached to the Ikoyi Police station attacked them with his rifle along the Lekki Roundabout on Wednesday December 3rd.

According to Punch, the couple who are currently receiving treatment at a Lagos Hospital for wounds they sustained from the attack said they were in a taxi on their way to their Parkview home when a 7-man Police patrol team at the Lekki Roundabout stopped their taxi.

Narrating what transpired, the driver of the taxi, Ndubuisi Iheaka said the police asked to inspect his boot which he obliged and opened for them. He said they then demanded for his driver’s license and as he was about getting it for them, they flashed their lights on his passengers

"I was about getting the driving license when he started flashing his torchlight on my passengers who were sitting at the back. The wife told the officer not to flash the torch on them since the inner light of the vehicle was on. Because of what she said, the policeman asked them to come down from the cab. This started an argument. The next thing I saw was that the policeman pulled my passenger (Ejeh) by his trousers, and his wife went to plead with him to stop. But instead, he slapped her and punched her husband. He was wearing a ring, which inflicted a deep cut on Ejeh’s face. After that, he used the butt of his gun to hit him in his eye and face. He also dragged his wife on the road.” the taxi driver said
Grace, the photographer's wife said the assault continued with the police officer stepping on her stomach

"If I was pregnant that night, I would have lost my pregnancy. I was only trying to pet him to leave my husband since he did not have business with us. I told him to face the cab driver and leave us alone. The other policemen were just looking at him while he dragged me on the ground. A man riding a tricycle at the time was the one who rescued me. He said the policemen must call their Divisional Police Officer or else he would not leave the scene,” she said.
Mr Ejeh said as they were being tortured, the DPO of the Ikoyi Police station, Mrs Aisha Haruna arrived the scene and ordered that they be taken to their station to make statement. He said he refused, insisting that they need medical attention. He said he was dripping blood from his eyes and his wife was vomiting blood.

"We told her that we needed to first treat ourselves before we could make statements. That was when we were given forms and referred to the Falomo Police Hospital. We paid for the treatment and we also went to the eye clinic for treatment.”

Grace said all the video recordings she did of the incident on her phone have been deleted by the police, including some of her personal data.

“Even my personal data were deleted. And when I asked the DPO why she did that, she said we deserved the treatment we got. She said she would have locked us up in the cell if not for our injuries. She said we did not know how to talk,” Grace said.

While confirming the incident, the Lagos state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said disciplinary actions would be taken once investigation into the matter is concluded.
“Yes, the incident happened in the Ikoyi division. Inquiries are on as well as disciplinary procedures.”he said

Meanwhile the Husband and Wife says they will be filing a petition to the Inspector General of Police through their family lawyer.

A NIGERIAN FOOTBALLER STABS TO DEATH IN LONDON

Joel Adesina, 15, schoolboy, and a talented footballer collapsed in Bethnal Green, in East London, on Friday night after being knifed in the stomach. He was taken to hospital but died three hours later.

Joel’s neighbours in Dagenham described him as an ambitious schoolboy who came from a hard-working family and  never stayed out late and would be seen coming home in his football kit.

Ricky Downes, the manager of Bardag FC Yellows, Joel’s football team said Joel was ‘as good as gold’ and talented enough to play professionally.
‘To say that myself and the club are devastated is an understatement, we are absolutely in bits.
‘Joel was a wonderful young lad who had the world at his feet.
‘He was a very talented footballer and had ambitions of playing professionally. I think he had a future in the sport and could have played for a living. He added.

However, thePolice said the teenager from Dagenham was walking with friends when they were confronted by a group in a parked car.
The group were pursued into a housing estate where neighbours heard ‘screaming and shouting’. Joel was cornered and stabbed.

A Scotland Yard spokesperson said: ‘Police were called by London Ambulance Service to Bethnal Green Road, E2, at 23:04hrs on Friday, 5 December.
‘Officers attended and found a 15-year-old boy suffering from serious stab injuries to the abdomen.
‘The boy was taken by London Ambulance Service to an east London hospital.
He died in hospital at 02:12hrs on Saturday, 6 December.’

An 18-year-old man was arrested but was released with no further action to be taken.

CHIEF JIM NWOBODO DISOWNS HIS THREE CHILDREN FROM 1ST MARRIAGE...

The former Governor of the old Anambra State  Chief Jim Nwobodo ,addressed journalists today in Enugu and accused two of his children (the ones he disowned today) Chukwudi and Nonso Nwobodo, of stealing the corpse of their older brother, Ifeanyi Nwobodo, who died in November after a battle with cancer

Nwobodo addressed the problems he's having with his sons at his home today. Continue to read what he told journalists...

"This is not really a very happy occasion for me – at my age, I should be talking about peace and not to get involved in something like this. Ifeanyi was my first son and unknown to us, myself and my wife, his family hid him.

“When we got to know that he was sick, we were very worried; we made sure he was taken to the best cancer hospital in the US.”

"From the day he died, I started planning for his burial. Because of politics, I felt that I should bury him before the primaries.
“Chukwudi and Nonso (Ifeanyi’s siblings) came to see me here and I told them that the burial will be in two weeks time that they should come back so that we could plan for it.

“As I am talking, I have seen neither Chukwudi nor Nonso till date. Their sister, who came back from US and called me to say that she is back, as I am talking to you, I have not seen her.
“You start to wonder- what kind of children are these? The press said I have two wives – it is not true. I divorced her (former wife) before I became governor. I have the divorce papers, please don’t refer to me as having two wives. I am a decent man. I have only one wife. Please save me the trouble and embarrassment of talking about matrimonial trouble, the church will not wed me if I have two wives.

"The children through her (former wife) cannot be said to have been flesh and blood. I am stopping at that – you know what I mean. A child that is yours will not hurt you like this, these children cannot be my flesh and blood.

“My children love me. It is only children that are not yours that will seize their brother’s dead body. If they can steal the dead body of their brother, it is terrible, unprecedented.”

OBASANJO LAUNCHES HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY 'MY WATCH' TODAY IN LAGOS

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, launched his autobiography 'My Watch' at the Lagos Country club Ikeja, Lagos today Dec. 9th. Guest at the event included former VC of the University of Lagos, Prof. Ibidapo Obe and former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili.

According to reports, one of the chapters of the book titled "To be or not to be, Jonathan" Obasanjo said he was deceived by late President Umaru Yar'Adua about his health status before facilitating his emergence as the PDP flag bearer in 2007.

In the book, Obasanjo was quoted to have said;

"As can be expected, I was heavily involved in the transition and exit process that saw me leaving office for my successor, Umaru Yar’Adua, as recounted in Chapter Thirty-seven, the ninth chapter of the second volume of this book. The unprepared and unplanned transition from Yar’Adua to Jonathan was a more difficult exercise in some respects. One reason was the ‘cloak and dagger’ manner in which Yar’Adua’s illness was handled. The illness of a President cannot be regarded as private. His health has implications for the security and wellbeing of the nation. For the president and those around him to have attempted strenuously to keep the fact of the severity of his illness from public smacks of ignorance of the enormity of what the job entails and the level of provinciality of their understanding, attitude, and approach. I remember that in 1978 or 1979 Chief Awolowo visited me while I was military head of state and shared with me how he would always stay at home to attend to the work at hand and only make a private visit to the UK once a year for health reasons if he became president of Nigeria. I made it clear to the chief that once he became president of Nigeria, he could have no private visit to anywhere as such. Wherever he would be, he would be on duty, and the totality of his life would be public. I jokingly added that the only privacy he might lay claim to would be when he was at home with Mama Chief H.I.D., and that even then his security staff would be on twenty-four-hour duty."

The launch of the three volume book was stopped by a court injunction secured by a former friend of Obasanjo, Prince Buruji Kashamuon on Friday December 5th but lawyers to Chief Obasanjo advised him to go ahead with the launch.
