CRIME: NIGERIAN MAN AMONG 5 TO BE EXECUTED FOR DRUGS CRIME IN INDONESIA !!!

Indonesia’s Attorney General HM Prasetyo confirmed on Thursday that five people, four men and a woman would face firing squad this Sunday. According to Jakarta Post.

“We have prepared everything; the firing squad, clergymen and doctors. The executions will be done simultaneously, not one by one,” he said.

Prasetyo added that those scheduled for execution had been notified on Jan. 14.

“They were told at least three days beforehand so they could mentally prepare and give their final requests,” he said, adding that families and respective embassies had also been informed.

All six convicts requested clemency, but those requests were rejected by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Dec. 30 last year.

The President has vowed to show no mercy for drug convicts, as Indonesia has become a major market for global drug trafficking.

Prasetyo said the executions would demonstrate the government’s determination to crack down on drugs, adding that as many as 40 to 50 people died each day from drug use.

“The executions of the convicts will send a message to all drug rings that Indonesia is serious about fighting them. I hope that people understand we are trying to save Indonesia from the dangers of drugs,” Prasetyo said.

The five foreigners due to be executed are from Nigeria, Malawi, Vietnam, the Netherlands and Brazil.

YENI KUTI SPEAKS ABOUT WOMEN IN POWER

Yeni Kuti, daughter of late Afro-beat King, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, said she can tolerate a man who cheats, but a lazy man can never be tolerated. Continue below...

How has life been as a single mom?

You know it’s a different feeling altogether. I was travelling in a plane, and the plane began malfunctioning. My first thought as a woman was ‘who will take care of my daughter if anything should happen to me?’ I was praying to my Creator to preserve my life because of her.

I used to smoke, but when my daughter gained admission into the university, I told myself, ‘you might die before this girl graduates, who will pay her tuition?’ That was the only motivation I needed to stop because I knew that I must see her through university. And when she graduated, I did not see the need to continue smoking.

So what could cause misunderstanding between yourself and your man?

I hate lazy men a lot. But the African society has put women at the receiving end one too many times. For instance, if a woman doesn’t give birth, all eyes will be on her, while no one will even point a finger at the man, and it might be the man who is sterile, while the woman is very fertile. I think we women need to fight for our rights more.

There are lots of women leaders who are in the Senate, House of Representatives, but they are just jollofing and not fighting for women’s rights. I still remember when I was refused the opportunity of buying a gun, I wasn’t happy when they said women couldn’t buy guns. I began to ask myself; what are women in government doing? If I was at the House of Representatives, women’s rights would be my main focus.

When a man is corrupt, I can understand it, but when a woman is corrupt, I cannot tolerate it because we are the mothers, we are the ones to set the pace. I believe women are the higher being. The man brings home themoney, but we are the one to bring up the children. But when the man doesn’t bring home the “backery” he is a useless and lazy man. He should be made to go and work.

I’m not saying women shouldn’t work, but it should be a matter of choice, that is if she can cope with asking her husband for everything she wants to buy. Then it is her choice.

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE: JONATHAN'S VISIT TO MAIDUGURI....TOO LATE OR LONG OVERDUE?

The State House press release below..

‘President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan undertook a surprise visit to Maiduguri Thursday on the occasion of Nigeria’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day to meet with officers and men of the Armed Forces currently in the frontline of the war against terrorism and insurgency in the country.
Accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, the National Security Adviser and the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, President Jonathan visited officers and men of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri to thank them for their patriotic and courageous service to the nation.
The President told officers and soldiers of the Division that the nation was very proud of them and grateful for their dedication and commitment to the defence of the civilian population against terrorists and violent extremists.

President Jonathan also assured the troops that the Federal Government will continue to do everything possible to ensure that they get the weapons, equipment, welfare and logistics support they require to completely rout the insurgents and restore full security and normalcy to affected parts of the country.

Describing the troops as a special breed of men who were undertaking a great assignment for their fatherland, the President assured them that all necessary action was being taken to address challenges facing them in their operations against Boko Haram. “In terms of equipment and logistics, we have already made considerable progress since the insurgency started and we will continue to improve in that regard until your operations are successfully concluded,” he told the soldiers. President Jonathan also toured wards of the 7 Division Hospital and Medical Services Centre where he met with soldiers recovering from injuries sustained in operations against Boko Haram. He wished them speedy recovery.

Before leaving the Borno State capital, President Jonathan visited over 900 displaced persons from Baga at a camp in the city. The President commiserated with the displaced persons on the losses they suffered during the attack on their town by Boko Haram. He promised them that the Federal Government will strive to make their stay in the camps more comfortable while it continues to do all within its powers to restore peace and security to enable them return to their homes soon.

“Terrorism and insurgency have been very traumatic for all of us. I feel particularly disturbed when I hear of our people being displaced within their own country. “I assure you and other displaced persons that Government is working very hard to ensure that you do not remain in these camps for too long. “I know that many of your houses have been destroyed. We will assist you financially so that you can rebuild your homes and return to them gradually,” President Jonathan told the displaced persons. The President thanked the Red Cross and other international organizations who have been assisting in the provision of relief materials to the displaced persons.

He also charged local, state and federal government officials to work with greater harmony and cooperation in rendering support to the displaced persons. “I do not want to be hearing conflicting reports on support being given to them. Government is one and we must all work together to assist our people whenever the need arises.
“We must cooperate maximally and work together at the local government, state and federal levels to ensure that our people who are unfortunately displaced from their homes get the best possible treatment,” President Jonathan said.
