BUHARI URGED NON-INDIGENES TO FORGIVE THE MONARCH FOR SAKE OF PEACE

The President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has urged all non-indigenes in Lagos State to forgive all that has been said against them and move on for the sake of peace.

General Muhammadu Buhari, however described Lagos as home for all, adding that the time had come for Nigerians to look past ethnicity in the general interest of peace and unity.

“I admire what your governor has done in terms of mobilising revenue to sustain Lagos development. I have a lot of respect for Governor Fashola for his hard work, commitment to the state and the country. There is no doubt that Lagos is a mini-Nigeria. We are all here and it has been mentioned by previous speakers that everybody (tribe) is adequately represented in Lagos.

“So, I assure you. If you vote for the continuity of APC in Lagos, you stand to gain more. It is in your interest that you vote for the APC.

“Please when you go home tell your neighbours, relatives and even the opposition to please bury the hatchet. Let them fall in line and vote the APC.

“When we were coming in our bus, Fashola told me how Lagos State had been spending to maintain the federal infrastructure here such as buildings, roads and other institutions. I had promised before that if I won the election and became the President, I would make Lagos my priority. Governor Fashola is already holding to me to that promise so I would like the incoming governor to listen carefully and make sure he makes me honour my undertaking.”

BANK OWNERS VANISH WITH CUSTOMERS' MONEY IN ILORIN

A wonder bank, Ayonitemi Cooperative Business Finance, located at Oniyangi, near the Emir Road, Ilorin, the Kwara State , was on Tuesday as early as 7am, besieged  by the customers of the bank, alleging that they had been defrauded by the firm.

Many of the customers, most of them weeping said they had lost substantial amount of money which they deposited in the finance house. They stated that they had been promised mouth watering financial offers if they made deposit in the bank.

One of them said she received information to come on Tuesday to collect her money which she had been depositing in the bank for many months. She claimed to have invested about N1m in the bank without her husband’s knowledge and consent.

“I have been depositing money in the bank for some months. They promised that they will not disappoint us. They told us that they were from Kwara State and they had no other place to run to. So, I was convinced that this bank was real. I did not even inform my husband of my transactions with them. Unfortunately, they disappointed us and ran away.”

Some other victims claimed to have lost money ranging from N100,000 to N450,000. Some of them later descended on the office of the firm and carted away office furniture and items, including electronics.

GANI ADAMS IS SELFISH..OPPORTUNIST WITH NO DECENCY..AKINPELU

Gani Adams has been queried by the National Coordinating Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC), to explain what he did with the N1.6 billion campaign fund he allegedly collected from President Goodluck Jonathan and the six million votes he promised the president.

In a press statement in Ibadan, spokesman of the Council, Comrade Adesina Akinpelu said, “one of the factors that contributed to President Jonathan’s defeat in the South-west was his romance with characters like Gani Adams.”

He maintained that as one of the founding fathers of OPC, he had contributed in many ways to the “liberation of Yoruba people from oppressors, and it was based on this principle that myself and some conscious members of the congress  decided to challenge Adams’ decision to sacrifice Yorubas for pecuniary gains”.

“It is on record that Gani Adams collected N1.6billion from President Goodluck Jonathan to work for him to be re-elected. We are not in any way against President Jonathan, but what we are against is mortgaging the future of Yorubas”, he said.

Akinpelu said;  “Like a man who seems not to have any decency left in him; he made a fast u-turn on Buhari, the man he once detested. Now in the world of Gani Adams, Buhari has become another god to be worshiped for pecuniary gains. He described Buhari as Nigeria’s Abraham Lincoln. In as much as we are not against anybody or group from congratulating the new president-elect; we are only using this medium to further showcase the real Gani Adams as an opportunist using OPC  for selfish purposes. Here is a man who for selfish purpose danced naked in the market square when he staged a macabre protest calling for the removal of Professor Attahiru Jega as the chairman of INEC.

Today, that same Jega that Gani Adams called many names is now the man of the moment. The entire world is celebrating Jega for ensuring credible election in Nigeria. In decent societies, the likes of Gani Adams and his cohorts would have buried their faces in shame but because they are second-class citizens with inferior scholarships; they still think Yoruba people are fools whose collective intelligence can be toyed with”.

WARNING: THE USE OF FOREIGN CURRENCY AS A MEDIUM OF PAYMENT IS ILLEGAL & ATTRACTS 6-MONTH JAIL TERM

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday said that  the increasing use of foreign currencies as a medium of exchange in the country is illegal and anybody caught risked a six-month jail term upon conviction.

The statement issued by the Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Mr. Ibrahim Muazu, read, “The attention of the bank has been drawn to the increasing use of foreign currencies in the domestic economy as a medium of payment for goods and services by individuals and corporates.

“It has also been observed that some institutions price their goods and services in foreign currencies and demand payment in foreign currencies rather than the domestic currency (the naira), which is the legal tender in Nigeria.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the attention of the general public is hereby drawn to the provision of the CBN Act of 2007, which states inter-alia that ‘the currency notes issued by the bank shall be legal tender in Nigeria…for the payment of any amount.’”

It added, “Furthermore, the Act stipulates that any person(s) who contravenes this provision is guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a prescribed fine or six months imprisonment.

“This prohibition, however, is without prejudice to foreigners, visitors and tourists who are encouraged to continue to use their cards for payments or exchange their foreign currencies for the local currency at any of the authorised dealers’ outposts.

“The general public is hereby advised to report any contravention of the provision of this Act to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the CBN for appropriate action.”

COUPLE WHO NEARLY KILLED THEIR CHILDREN IN IKORODU HAVE BEEN ARRESTED

Mr. Seun Odebunmi, 36, father of Damilare and Michael, and his wife, Adepeju Odebunmi ,also the step-mum of the two, have been arrested by the police for abusing their children.
According to the Seun, “Damilare and Michael are the children I had from my first wife; their mother abandoned them when they were four years and two years old, respectively.

“I am a company driver before I had this accident that affected my legs. I have undergone two surgeries. While I was still driving, I leave home very early and come back late. Each time I return from work, I get complaints about the two of them.

“My wife and I went out; when we came back we found out that Damilare has taken my drugs. I was the one that beat him up. But I wanted to take him to the hospital before people in the community called the police, who came to his rescue.

“We did not mean to cause the children any harm,” he said. “All we did was discipline them for stealing,” he added.

“We have not registered both of them in school because we are still searching for a better school for them.”

Wife’s story
“I am their step-mother. My husband disciplined Damilare because he steals food in the house. He is fond of going into the kitchen to steal food, including soup from the pot.

“When I returned from an outing with my husband, I met Damilare swallowing his daddy’s drug. The daddy got angry and beat him up, then sent him out of the house. He wanted to take his shower before taking Dami to the hospital.

“The neighbours invited the police, who arrested us. I always report to their father when they misbehave. Most times, I discipline them myself. I use the same cane on them and my biological children and give them food three times daily.

“The scars on their body are from rough play.”

Her (Adepeju Odebunmi) daughter’s version:

Her daughter said: “Mummy usually beats Damilare with horsewhip and plank.
“She always beat them up and if I share my food with them, she will quarrel with me, but she will not beat me.”
It would be recalled that the couple was arrested after residents in the community raised alarm on the abuse suffered by the children when eight years old Damilare Odebunmi was found lying in the sun with blood dripping out of injuries on his back, after an alleged beating by their step-mother for taking Vitamin C.

A relative’s tears:
Seun’s relative (names withheld) said: “We do not know how he got involved with the second wife, or why he chose to treat his own blood with so much disdain.

“Would you believe Seun married the second wife without the knowledge of any member of his family? As if that was not enough, he relocated to another area in Ikorodu to cut off links with his family and relatives.

“It was when this trouble started we discovered that he lives here in Ikorodu, married a woman who has grown up children from her previous marriage.”

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said the children had been discharged from Ikorodu General Hospital and the case charged to court.
