TOYIN'S ABDUCTION: FOUR POLICEMEN WERE ALMOST MURDERED BY HER ABDUCTORS

The inspector, identified as Moronfola Oyeniyi, is now battling to stay alive at an undisclosed hospital in Festac.

It was gathered that the prime suspect in the abduction of Toyin, the wife of The Sun newspapers’ Deputy Managing Director, Mr Steve Nwosu, was leading the policemen to where Toyin was being held when armed men, believed to be the masterminds of the abduction attacked them.

The policemen called for reinforcement and arrested 15 suspects in the area. The men who attacked the policemen about 9am, hurriedly made away with the prime suspect, Oyeniyi’s service pistol and his AK47 rifle. Oyeniyi and three other policemen, who are attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, were attacked around Festac-Agboju area of the metropolis by men believed to be of northern extraction.

The armed men were said to have appeared from the canal area and pounced on the policemen. Three of the policemen escaped, but Oyeniyi was not so lucky. He was attacked with machetes. One of his colleagues said: “We don’t know if Fola (Oyeniyi) will live. We are praying for him. His situation is very bad.

The Hausa men just appeared from the canal area and attacked the policemen. They took Fola’s service pistol and AK47 rifle.” The prime suspect was said to have been arrested during ongoing investigation and had finally cracked under intense interrogation.
He was also said to have agreed to take the policemen to where Toyin was being held. “Minutes after the attack, our men re-enforced and stormed the area. They arrested 15 people and recovered Fola’s service pistol.
The 15 suspects have denied being part of those that attacked Fola and his team,” said a policeman.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Joe Offor, said he was not aware of any incident at Festac. He, however, promised to call Area E Command, Festac, to find out.

VISA SCAM: INDIAN MAN ARRESTED IN LAGOS

Ayodotun Babalola. Ayodotun (pictured above) had petitioned the Nigerian police after he discovered that his former business partner, a Dubai-based Indian man, Mohammed Shazul who he fell out with had used his name to obtain a Dubai visa, thereby preventing him to apply for a visa.

"I applied for a visa to Dubai only to discover that my name had been used to obtain a visa without my knowledge. The company is Citadel Toss Company. When I contacted Citadel Toss Company, they told me they have strict instruction from their client, (the suspect) not to hand over the visa to anybody even if the owner comes until further instruction from him. Their plan was to ensure that I don’t get visa to Dubai to do my business. I see my visa as my personal document and on that note I couldn’t travel again because I was restricted. I had to petition the Inspector-General of Police to complain officially to seek redress on the matter,’’ Ayo said in his petition which was obtained by NAN.
Police say the Indian national and some of his accomplice have been arrested and are currently being investigated

COUP IN BOKINA FASO!!!

General Gilbert Diendere, a former chief-of-staff to Mr. Compaore, was named the head of the new junta called the National Council for Democracy.
A spokesperson for the coup leaders, Lt. Col. Mamadou Bamba, said : “We have put in place a national democracy council tasked with organising democratic and inclusive elections,” he said..

The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon condemned the coup, and called for the immediate release of the leaders. The United States also called for the immediate release of the interim president, prime minister.
French President Francois Hollande condemned the coup. He called for the release of the president and prime minister, and the continuation of the electoral process.

The choice of General Diendere as the leader of the military junta is seen by many as the return of Mr. Compaore, through the back door.

A communique read by the coup leaders appeared to give boost to that speculation.

The statement said the electoral process was discriminatory and had created “divisions and frustrations amongst the people”, a reference to a policy that barred loyalists of Mr. Compaore and those who backed his tenure elongation bid, from being part of the election.
“The transition has progressively distanced itself from the objectives of refounding our democracy,” the statement said.

The coup leader, Mr. Diendere, however, denied the coup was sponsored by Mr. Compaore. He said he had “no contact” with the former ruler.
“All change of this type can lead to violence. I am conscious of that … everything will be done to avoid violence that could plunge the country into chaos,” Mr. Diendere said on France 24 television.
