ACCUSER BECOMES ACCUSE :POLICE BRUTALITY IN BROAD DAY IN LAGOS - AN EYE WITNESS ACCOUNT

Young Azeez Balogun was brutally assaulted by the men of the State S.A.R.S from Ejigbo police station and ikeja on friday, 12th of February for being falsely accused of mobbing and stealing five hundred thousand naira from his neighbor at the block of flats in Jakande Estate, Oke- afa, Isolo, Lagos sub-urban.

It all happened on the 13th of December,2015, when Azeez Balogun's neighbor, named Adeyemi Mufutau Bello parked his cars to hinder his (Azeez) family from moving their car for 8 days. All efforts were made to get Mr Adeyemi to move his cars but he refused. The case was later reported to the police after 2 days. When the police men got to the site, all efforts to invite Mr Adeyemi were not fruitful as he resisted arrest.

The men of the law asked the family of Azeez to be on the lookout for Mr Adeyemi and hold him down when seen and call them (the police) which they did.

The same police man named Tayo who brutally harassed Azeez Balogun  came over to the site but helped Mr Adeyemi go free instead of inviting him to the station!

At about 12am, january 31st there was a knock on the door of the balogun's Family flat with some men claiming to be police officers asking for the arrest of the boys in the house without any warrant but for security reasons the door was not opened to them.

Azeez was on the 12th of February, washing his brother's car , Mr Tayo whom Azeez Balogun claims to have seen with Mr.Bello the night before he was arrested and Mr taiwo Durojaiye,,dressed in the black anti robbery squad uniform walked up to him, asking him to identify himself which he did by telling them he is an upcoming artist (Stage name Dragnet).

He was immidiately arrested  with handcuffs on his hands and legs, dragging him on the ground with no reason for the arrest and no warrant. When they were being asked for their warrant,Mr Tayo replied by saying "Na warrant hard to issue?  I can issue a warrant and back date it myself"

Azeez Balogun was taking to the State S.A.R.S and was detained for one night. A witness,( name withheld) told us that the I.P.O of the case who was Mr Taiwo Durojaiye actually said to him that it would take a miracle for Azeez Balogun to be released on that 12th of February which he Azeez was arrested and he (Mr Taiwo) made sure he did.

Azeez Balogun is a promising young boy just like every other Victims of this barbaric act.
Something needs to be done.We can't continue like this. The I.G must do something about this.We need to stand for our right.Mr Tayo and Mr Taiwo Durojaiye need to be interrogated for this inhuman act.

PROUDLY AFRICAN: ANGELIQUE KIDJO WINS 3RD GRAMMY

Legendary African born singer, writer, composer, performer, Angelique Kidjo ,yesterday night at Los Angeles, won her third Grammy and dedicated it to aspiring artists on the continent. She won the Grammy for Best World Music Album for "Sings," a collection of her songs infused with Western classical traditions in collaboration with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg.

This is the second straight year that Kidjo has won the Best World Music Album prize, after last year's "Eve" that paid tribute to African women.

A visibly excited Kidjo, ran to the stage to accept the award and danced to James Brown's "I Feel Good," performed by a pit orchestra. "I want to dedicate this Grammy to all the traditional musicians in Africa, in my country, to all the young generation. Africa is on the rise, Africa is positive, Africa is joyful. Let's get together and be one with music, and say no to hate and violence," she said
Congratulations….

CRIME: CRIMINALS -DRUGS - GUNS- STOLEN CARS ETC INTERCEPTED IN INTERPOL'S OPERATION !

The 10-day (26 January – 4 February) Operation Adwenpa saw more than 100 officers deployed to 10 air and land border control points across five countries ‒ Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria and Togo – to conduct additional security checks against INTERPOL’s databases.

Two men who were the subject of INTERPOL Red Notices were identified – a Ghanaian national wanted by Brazil for drug trafficking was taken into custody at the Ghana/Cote d’Ivoire border, and a French national wanted for fraud and embezzlement by Benin was arrested at Abidjan’s Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport.

A Ghanaian man attempting to smuggle two migrants into Togo using counterfeit travel documents was arrested, and at the Nigeria/Benin border six child victims aged between 13 and 17 who were suspected of being trafficked for labour exploitation were handed into the care of national authorities.

Nearly 900 kg of narcotics were seized including cocaine, cannabis, methamphetamine and khat. Searches against INTERPOL’s database of stolen motor vehicles led to the recovery of seven vehicles which had been stolen in Canada, France, Germany and Italy.

Smuggled bulk cash, gold ingots and jewellery worth more than USD 1million were also seized, as well as nearly 80 kg of trafficked ivory and a number of counterfeit passports.

Director General of Benin National Police Didier Atchou said the operation clearly showed the links between different types of crime and the need for a coordinated transnational response.

"With the increased freedom of movement of goods and people also comes increased opportunities for criminals," said Director General Atchou.
"The results from Operation Adwenpa demonstrate what can be achieved when officers on the ground have the training and access to policing capabilities they need, such as those provided by INTERPOL",
"Police in the involved countries have gained new knowledge in combating people smuggling, drug trafficking, terrorism and other transnational crimes which will significantly enhance national and regional security in the future," concluded the Director General.

Operation Adwenpa marks the final activity of the two-year Capacity Building Programme to Strengthen Border Management in West Africa, supported by the Government of Canada’s Anti-Crime Capacity Building Programme.

"What makes Operation Adwenpa especially effective is that local officers involved in the operation took part in an INTERPOL Train-the-Trainer course beforehand," said Julia Viedma, INTERPOL’s Director of Capacity Building and Training.
"These officers were given the skillsets and tools to train their own colleagues, meaning police across West Africa will also benefit from this programme in the future."
"Operation Adwenpa clearly shows the range of activities in which organized crime is involved, and law enforcement cannot look at different crime types in isolation," said Michael O’Connell INTERPOL’s Director of Operational Support and Analysis.
"This exercise also demonstrates the importance of using INTERPOL’s global policing capabilities, to share information and cooperate across borders."

Over the course of the programme, more than 50 officers from National Central Bureaus (NCBs), immigration, customs and other law enforcement units underwent specialized training. A practical handbook specifically designed for West African border officers, providing tips, guidelines and advice in detecting the most predominant forms of transnational crime affecting the region has also been produced.
