MERCY OGBEDO: WAS SHE DUPED OR SHE FOLLOW THE BILLIONS? ..MUST PAY HER EX-HUSBAND LEGAL BILL

A scorned woman who claims she was 'duped' into marrying a billionaire with a secret wife has been told she must pay the tycoon £100,000 by the divorce courts.
Mercy Ogbedo, 45, thought her dreams had come true in 2002 when she went through a picturesque marriage ceremony with Nigerian shipping magnate Moses Taiga.

Her feet were washed by village elders and a 'bride price' was paid for her, before the couple drank from the same cup, danced and cut an exotic wedding cake.
But Mrs Ogbedo, from Finchley, north London, who has two children by Mr Taiga, a billionaire who owns a string of London properties, says she discovered later that her husband already had a wife from 1974.

For more than a decade she has been petitioning the British divorce courts for financial support from Mr Taiga's nine-figure fortune.
But last year a divorce judge ruled that despite the mother of two being 'of limited means', she could not be awarded a maintenance from Mr Taiga because he had their marriage voided in Nigeria.
Instead she was ordered to pay £100,000 towards his legal bills.

Challenging that ruling, her barrister, Timothy Scott QC, said the former couple's lavish 2002 ceremony had 'duped' her into thinking she was a lawfully wedded wife.
The barrister told Appeal Court judge Lord Justice McFarlane that soon after her 'wedding' she discovered that 28 years previously Mr Taiga had married another woman in church in Benin.

'In March 2002 Mrs Ogbedo and Mr Taiga entered into a customary marriage in Nigeria, which would have been valid but for the husband's prior marriage. The wife says she was duped,' the QC said.
'She should be permitted to apply for financial relief in England by virtue of that marriage ceremony,' he added.
Mr Taiga, who is also a Grandmaster in the Nigerian arm of the Freemasons, has been pursuing parallel proceedings in the African courts.
Last year a Nigerian court found that the 2002 ceremony was not just invalid but a 'non-marriage' and she has no rights over his fortune.
The Court of Appeal in London has refused to overrule that decision, although Lord Justice McFarlane said he had 'real sympathy' for her predicament and has given her the right to appeal paying his £100,000 legal bill in the latest hearing.
The full hearing of Mrs Ogbedo's challenge to the costs order will take place at a later date.

STOMACH INFRASTRUCTURE CONCEPT: I GO TO BEER PARLOUR EVERY FRIDAY...FAYOSE

"I go to beer parlour on Friday to stay with the common men there that was Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state concept of the 'stomach infrastructure'. Fayose said this today in Abuja while explaining to newsmen the concept of the he initiated in his state.

"I go to beer parlour on Friday to stay with the common men there. Governance is not church; it is about diverse characters and you must relate with them as such. Christmas is coming. Why do people go out of their ways to be shopping or doing other things if it is not just to make people merry? So, I’m grooming chicken, buying rice, yams, plantain, and the rest of them. I am sure if I give it to families during the festive period, they will be happy. So, stomach infrastructure is a way of life.” he said

BURKINA FASO PARLIAMENT SET ABLAZE AFTER MEMBERS TRIED TO PROLONG CAMPAORE TERM

On October 20th, 2014, I blogged with a title ‘BLAISE CAMPAORE: PRESIDENT 4 LIFE AS PARLIAMENT TRYING TO REMOVE A 2-TERM LIMIT’ in which I lamented that the Africa major problem is the sit-tight leaders that refused to embrace true democracy. I also re-echoed the opposition leader,Benewende Stanislas Sankara, who said in his remarks that:"Today we have the proof that those in power want to fiddle with our constitution. We will now see if the members of the National Assembly go along with the wishes of the people or those of one man,"

As if am a soothsayer, the rubber-stamp parliamentarian in Burkina Faso were due   to vote on a change on their constitution which would allow the sitting president, Blaise Compaore - who took power in a coup in 1987 - to stand for re-election again next year, when he was due to stand down

However, the angry citizens who did not buy into the proposed constitution review stormed the National Assembly building in the capital Ouagadougou, set it ablaze following a decision by members of parliament to review the country's constitution to allow President Blaise Compaore extend his 27-year rule.

One of the protesters said;

"We did this because Blaise was trying to stay too long. We are tired of him. We want a change. He must go!”
The violence forced the government to temporarily scrap a vote on the constitutional amendments.

SAY NO TO RAPE: A WOMAN KILLED AN ALLEGED RAPIST IN LAGOS

Ifeoma Okechukwu, 22, a woman, an indigene of Imo state, has been arrested in Lagos after she allegedly killed an unidentified man who she claimed tried to rape her at her Atlantic View Estate, Alpha Beach Road, Lekki home.

Ifeoma, who lived with her uncle said that the incident happened on Monday October 27th, when she  gone out on that fateful day around 12.30pm to buy sanitary pads because she was on her menstrual period, and was on her way back home when she was accosted by an unknown man.

"After buying the sanitary pads, I was going back home when I saw a man, who should be in his forties, standing at a corner. He approached me and ordered me to take him to my house. He put his hand into his pocket as if he wanted to bring out a weapon. He said he would kill me if I shouted. When we got to the house, he said I should shut the door and I did. He said I should remove my clothes; and I started begging him, but he refused to listen. So I told him to let me get to the kitchen because I was cooking something and I would be back. I got a rod and hid it in my wrapper. I went back and moved slowly towards him, still begging, but he refused. He was taking off his clothes and wearing a condom when I used the rod to hit him in the head. I started screaming. And then I picked the phone and called my uncle.” Ifeoma said while narrating what happened

Her uncle who she lived with said he was at work when she called him and told him what had happened. He said he immediately left the office and went to a police station to report...

"I was not at home when the incident happened and her younger brother had also gone out. So, she was alone in the house and it was possible he had been monitoring her movement. When she called me and said what had happened, I left the office and went to the police station in Jakande Estate where I reported the matter.” he said

While confirming the incident, the Lagos state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu said investigations so far carried out showed the man was part of a gang who terrorized residents of the area

"He was about wearing the condom when the girl hit him on the head and he died. His mission was to rape her and steal from the house. He probably took advantage of her frail stature. We have got information that he was not alone. He belonged to a gang that has been terrorizing Lekki residents for some time now. And that’s why since this incident, nobody knows his name and address, and none of his relatives have come forward to say they know him.”. He said investigations are still ongoing.

Ifeoma is still in police custody pending when an investigation into the matter is concluded.
