WHO IS THE MAYEGUN OF YORUBA LAND?

Olasunkanmi Wasiu Ishola Anifowoshe, AKA, K1 De Ultimate  was installed as the Mayegun of Yoruba land by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111.According to Oba Adeyemi, he said the honour was in recognition of the artiste’s tremendous contribution to the media and entertainment industry.

The royal father emphasised that gone were the days when Yoruba people were silent about the exploits of their own while they were being honoured in other lands. He made reference to the late but leading artists such as IK Dairo, Haruna Ishola and many others who left with great impact without commensurate honours.
He said, “As we all know, there are three tiers of government. We have the executive, the judiciary and the legislature. The media is regarded as the fourth estate of the realm, and musicians are a vital part of the media.
“Through music, some of them criticised government excesses. A king who wants progress for his people should listen to good words of music that are deliberately picked to correct societal problems. I looked round and acknowledged the efforts of some of our musicians who are not just singing for the sake of it.
“For a long time, I have been documenting some of the works of our good musicians in Yorubaland. IK Dairo of blessed memory was honoured in the United Kingdom many years ago. Then, Sunny Ade was discovered. They called him King of Juju music. What we have done is to discover our own talents. The music of Wasiu is philosophical. It is time we honoured our own.”

Alaafin also revealed that Ayinde had made a request for the title 11 years ago during his visit to his palace in the company of his friends and associates.

Earlier in his address shortly after his coronation, Wasiu said, “I give thanks to God almighty for deeming me fit. I thank Kabiyesi Alaafin and all our royal fathers for supporting me on this occasion. The responsibility that I am given is about the unity of Yoruba.
“The music part of me is on one side while the Mayegun part of me is another side. Henceforth, I stand for the interest of the Yoruba nation.
“Eleven years ago when Kabiyesi first muted the idea of installing me with the title, he sent me back midway apparently so that I can go for more tutelage. He sent me to learn about more rudiments of life. I am better off today. I stand before everybody today and assure you of my readiness to play my roles diligently.”

Exactly a year after Barrister Kayode Ajulo was installed as Mayegun^-Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba Land by the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Aare Gani Adams; Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, aka K1 De Ultimate, has also been installed as “the first” Mayegun of Yorubaland by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, on Monday, January 13, 2020.

These two separate installations of the same chieftaincy title have thrown up heated debates in many circles of interests.

Aare Adams has been under severe criticisms because of his action, as many believed he was overreaching and usurping the powers and privileges of the Yoruba traditional rulers by installing chiefs. In response to his critics who had maintained that he had no such power and privileges, he pointed out that he was not the first Aare Ona Kakanfo to have appointed chief.

“In fact, I am the 13th Aare to have done that. The only two who did not appoint chiefs were Aare Abiola and Akintola and that was because they were seriously engaged in politics and had limited time,” he said.
According to the Aare Adams, Yorubaland was so vast that he needed to delegate responsibilities to people across all the Yoruba speaking states since he could not be everywhere at all times.
Supporters of Aare Adams claimed that it was customary for Alaafin to install Aare Ona Kakanfo and that should not diminish the fact that Aare Adams has territorial influence across all Yoruba, which include appointing people for chieftaincy titles, like he did in January 2019.

The installation of fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde popularly known as KWAM 1 as the Mayegun of Yoruba land by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi is raising dust. Also, upon his installation as the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, he set up the Aare-in Council where he appointed legal practitioner, Mr Kayode Ajulo as the Mayegun of the Aare Onakakanfo. The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland is expected to set up his council members to assist his office and discuss issues that affect Yorubaland. It is important to state here that the Mayegun Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland land is different from Mayegun of Yorubaland. The two personalities have different but complementary roles to play in the development of the Yoruba nation.

WHY I JUMPED OVER THE 3RD MAINLAND BRIDGE

The 28-year-old man, Princewill David, who was rescued after he jumped over the 3rd mainland bridge  into the Lagos Lagoon  thanks the driver of the cab and the Rapid Response Squad (Lagos State Police Command).

According to him, David, a resident of 42, Tajudeen Balogun Street, Igando, took the dive after his lover broke up with him. The Foreign Exchange (FOREX) dealer was said to have requested a hailing taxi service only to tell the driver to stop midway through the bridge for him to urinate.
According to the Nation, the driver turned down his request following recent trend of passengers on suicide mission, asking drivers to stop for them to pee only to jump into the water. The driver increased his speed until he sighted operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on pin down
operation towards Adeniji before he slowed down.

As soon as the driver slowed down, David was said to have jumped off the car and into the lagoon where he landed on logs of wood.

It was gathered that the policemen quickly went after him, rescued and rushed him to the hospital.
David was said to have fractured his legs and sustained other body injuries as a result of the jump.
According to a source, the driver said David insisted he should pass Third Mainland Bridge after he picked him up at Igando.
“He asked the driver if they were on Third Mainland Bridge when they got there and he said yes.
“The man then said the driver should stop the car so he can pee but the driver refused and sped off.
“The driver said the man was forcing him to wait but because of reports of people jumping into the water after lying that they want to pee, he increased his speed and only slowed down when he saw RRS.
“But before the driver reached where the policemen where to complain, the man ran off the vehicle and jumped into the water.
“One of the policemen saw him approach the railings and pleaded with him not to jump but the guy went ahead. Fortunately, he landed on logs of wood and the policemen with the help of local fishermen rescued him.
“He broke his legs and sustained other injuries. He was rushed to the hospital where he is still being treated.
“They asked why he wanted to kill himself and he said it was because his girlfriend said she was no longer interested in him,” the source said.
Confirming the incident, police spokesman Bala Elkana said the victim was responding to treatment at the hospital, adding that he said heartbreak led him to attempt suicide.

I HAVE CURE FOR CORONA VIRUS AND LASSA FEVER~ NIGERIAN PROFESSOR

A Nigerian professor of virology, Maduike Ezeibe, has said he has a cure for the corona (Covid-19) virus and Lassa fever ( The Nation).
Professor Ezeibe who is the Dean, College of Veterinary Medicine, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) said his therapy has the potency to cure coronavirus and lassa fever.

On how the therapy works, Professor Ezeibe said: “that electrostatic attraction would make electrically charged medicines mop pathogens which have opposite charges  is a known scientific fact and that viruses and abnormal (infected /tumor) cells are electrically charged is now known.
Covid-19 virus and Lassa fever virus (DNA viruses) are negatively charged. Small sizes of viruses enable them infect cells, inaccessible to big molecules.
So, existing antiviral medicines need immunity to complement their effects but some viruses cause immune deficiency.
As a silicate, AMS also normalises immunity and as a stabilizing agent it enhances efficacy of antimicrobials to achieve effective treatment secondary infections. Effective treatment of secondary infections would cure any viral /abnormal cell diseases including Covid -19 and Lassa fever.”

He expressed confidence that the therapy which had already proved reliable in the treatment of HIV/AIDS would make coronavirus a thing of the past.

CORONAVIRUS. ITALIAN MAN DIAGNOSED WITH CORONAVIRUS IS COMFORTABLE

Lagos state Commissioner for Health,Professor Akin Abayomi, has given an update on on the treatment of the Italian man diagnosed with Coronavirus in the state.

At a press conference held on Saturday afternoon, he said the Italian patient has been moved to the state's completed ward which was recently renovated with full complement of facilities.

"I have spoken to him myself, he is doing very well, he is comfortable; he was comfortable yesterday and he is comfortable today. He was initially kept in a single isolation room for his privacy when he was brought in because part of the facilities at the Mainland Hospital were being renovated, he has been moved to one of the newly renovated wards'' he said

The commissioner added that the Italian patient is recuperating
As of this morning, his condition has improved, he hasn’t developed new symptoms but he still got a mild fever and we will be running test to see what the situation is with the virus in his body and as soon as we get a negative screen, we will keep him for another 2-3 days and repeat the test to make sure that there are no more virus particles in his saliva and that means that he will not be contagious. Then, we give the OK for him to be released back into the community” Professor Abayomi said

Furthermore, in a statement released on Saturday February 29 by Babatunde Iruekera who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), vendors were told that abusing citizens’ sensitivity, apprehension, anxiety and vulnerability, especially during emergencies that could adversely affect national security is a violation of law.

Vendors were also told that they risk getting prosecuted if they use the confirmation of coronavirus in Nigeria as an excuse to increase the price of the protective items.

The statements reads in part;

“Any conspiracy, combination, agreement or arrangement to unduly limit or manipulate supply, in order to unreasonably enhance price or otherwise restrain competition is a criminal offence under S.108(1)(b) and (c), FCCPA.
“Any exercise or exploitation of undue pressure in selling or the sale of goods or services, or price manipulation between displayed, and selling price are also serious violations of the FCCPA under Sections 115(3) and 124(1).
“Taking advantage of the possibility of infection by a dangerous communicable disease to control supply, or unilaterally increase prices is predatory as it preys on the desperation of citizens.
“Considering the circumstances and the vital national interest/security this illegal conduct undermines, the Commission intends to strongly enforce the full letter of the law, including the fullest extent of penalties associated with this conduct.”

VISA SCAM: POLICE OFFICER FLED TO CANADA AFTER DEFRAUDING HIS COLLEAGES

A police inspector, Oluwadare Nelson Badejo aka Dare, attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, Lagos State Police Command, has fled to Canada after allegedly defrauding several police personnel and civilians money amounting to over N48million for visas.

According to some angry policemen, Dare, used to travel frequently to London and even told them that he was born in Britain, thus he is a British citizen.
It was based on these claims that many of them fell hook, line and sinker for his scam. When he told them that he could facilitate their travel documents and get visas to any country, they believed.
Dare allegedly collected between N1.2million, N1.4million and N1.8million from his police and civilian victims. But before he takes on the job of supposedly preparing visa for a client, he would first ask for initial deposit of between N300,000 and N4,000 for a form. Once the person pays the money, he gives the person the form to fill out his details, before he would then start asking for money to get the visa and other travel documents.
The fleeing Dare, did not only defraud policemen working with SARS and those in the Command headquarters, Ikeja, he also stretched his game to the GRA, Ikeja office of the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT). Indeed, IRT operatives, known for cracking tough high profile cases and had arrested several fraudsters, never believed that their own colleague could pull a fast one on them. Thus some of them fell for Dare’s gimmick. The most brazen of his moves no doubt was the defrauding of one of his bosses, an administration officer, working at the police headquarters.
While policemen and civilians are helplessly seething in anger, our reporter heard that some people had gone to Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID), Alagbon, Ikoyi, to complain in the hope that Interpol Unit could be dragged into launching an investigation with the Metropolitan Police Service.
For some unfathomable reason, the Lagos State Police Command hierarchy had continued to maintain a studied silence on the matter, in spite of repeated prodding and questions from our reporter.
A policeman, whose friend’s was a victim, smiled and said: “This is one of the best executed scam I had ever seen. Everyone is still in shock. Dare is a guy that everyone loves and trusted. It is difficult to believe that he could hurt his fellow policemen and women. He collected money from policemen, women and civilians. He also collected from my poor friend. He promised to get Canadian working visas for most of them. Do you know that he collected N1.2million from each of these people? He told them that their visas would be out in three months’ time and then after three months, he would start dribbling them.”
To ensure that they buy his yarns, Dare would show pictures of visas saved on his phone gallery, which he claimed to have prepared for people, now outside the country. And while giving out forms for victims to fill, he would give them ink to thumbprints, making everything to look official.
“He even took some policemen to Canadian Embassy just to convince them that the deal was genuine. However, when they got to the embassy, he told those he went with to wait outside, while he goes into the embassy. A few minutes later, he would come out, claiming that his personal person, who used to assist him with the visas was not on ground, that the present person on duty would cause problem for them.”
Just when his victims were beginning to get tired of his stories and started expressing their suspicion, Dare it was later found out, applied for Sport Leave as a policeman and it was approved. He bolted to Canada to join his wife and three children.
According to his colleagues, Dare has a second wife in Holland, whom he told his victims was his agent. Once in a while, he would ensure that his Holland wife has video calls with clients to convince them that she was on ground concerning travelling issues. She usually asks questions that had to do with documentations.
Another policeman said: “Once he collects money from you, he tells you that he has an agent, but all money goes into his personal account. Do you know that he abandoned his police work and ran to Canada? He told everyone that one of his partners in the visa business is the sister of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s wife. I heard some people tracked the woman down to her office after Dare ran away, but I didn’t go with them. She has office at Maryland. She told those that went there, that she had no business with them and didn’t know them. She said that the person she had business with was Dare. Sometimes he would promise his victims to add them to the Oni of Ife’s entourage, whenever the Oba’s would be travelling. He would then give you forms to fill so as to be part of those that would be on the Oni’s entourage.”
While frantically trying to locate him, his colleagues discovered that he had three buildings; two at Ayobo and one at Atan, Sango-Ota. He was alleged to have built one of the houses within four months.
After Dare bolted, he stopped picking calls, but not before he had gleefully told his colleagues, that he was never returning to Nigeria. He had just six years left in the Force to retirement. He has worked with the Force for 29 years.
Our reporter also heard that the Lagos State Police Command Provost had been looking for him until it was learnt that Dare had fled the nest.
On February 2, our reporter contacted the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) on the matter, he responded that he needed to make inquiries and revert to the reporter, but he didn’t get back.  On February  4, our reporter sent him a text message on the matter, but he also didn’t respond. On February 5, our reporter once again sent the image maker a text message  and  called his phone line, he didn’t reply the text and didn’t pick his call.

The state Director of Fire Service, Fatai Adefala, confirmed to the New Telegraph that the fire only razed a store and not the main building in the former president’s compound.

He said officials of the agency swiftly responded to distress calls about 10:00pm and succeeded in putting out the fire.
