sister – my mother’s last born. We are as close siblings can be. That is why we
have stayed together for this long.”
He says, “I am actually from Ethiopia. That is where my
grandfather comes from. I don’t know why people can’t believe me. I am a
full-fledged Nigerian, no doubt. I was born and raised here, but my ancestral
roots remain in Ethiopia. I come from Adowa, a province in the Northern part of
Ethiopia. My family naturalised as Nigerians in Warri. My father is Itsekiri,

Holy Bible,” he says.
“There is hardly any of the older reggae musicians, from
the Mandators, Ras Kimono to Majek Fashek, whose early works do not bear my
imprint. I have produced all of them. Musically, I am older than all of them.
That is why they call me ‘Pupa’,” he boasts.

"I heard
you saying that you are planning a ‘Hall of Fame.’ I think we should start
thinking of having a hall of shame, where the names of

want to indulge in criminal activities, as they would not want to soil their

A 4-month old baby girl was crushed
her to death after she fell off her mother’s back while she was struggling to
adjust the wrapper with which she strapped the baby to her back, while the
motorcycle she was riding in was still in motion.
The baby fell on the middle of the road and a truck conveying crates of
soft drinks which was directly behind them crushed her to death immediately,
according to the sympathizers.
Officials of Ughelli Command of
the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, which were later called to the scene,
were seen clearing the remains of the dead baby from the road as sympathizers
consoled the mother.

WASTED GENERATION: PDP GOVERNORS DONATES N1.05 BILLION WHILE OWING WORKERS FOR MONTHS
In Nigeria, we
like to show-off while we're nobody! Can you imagine that 21 Peoples Democratic
Party [PDP] governors on Saturday night at the presidential villa in Abuja to
announce N1.05 billion in donation to the PDP, while some states, the
indebtedness to workers stretched a year.
In Ebonyi,
authorities owed teachers under the Universal Basic Education scheme
nearly 12 months of salaries. Abia State, secondary school
teachers were last paid in August, while primary school teachers have been owed
since October. In Cross River, the situation had worsened after months of
indebtedness that state-run television, the Cross River Broadcasting
Corporation, CRBC, shut off production last week.
Akwa Ibom State, the nation’s leading oil
producer which draws more than triple of what other states receive from the
federation account monthly, local government staff were on strike. Before the
strike, they were forced to receive half salaries for several months, while
authorities claimed they had no money.
But on Saturday
night, Cross State governor, Liyel Imoke, stood next to his Bauchi
State colleague, Isa Yuguda, as Mr. Yuguda announced to a gleeful president and
a shocked nation how the 21 governors who had been struggling to pay salaries
long before the present oil crisis, rallied N50 million each in donation to the
PDP.
“We may do more
in future, but that is what we were able to raise for now,” Mr. Yuguda assured.
In all, the PDP
and the president raked in over N21 billion, with donations coming
from government contractors, nameless associates, and Tunde Ayeni, the head of
Skye Bank, who has bought a string of government assets, including
the mega telecoms carrier, NITEL/MTEL, in a process that has already become
controversial. ,

Col. Ojo was reportedly found guilty of
passing out unverified information about the return of the abducted girls as
well as not reinforcing the military personnel the night the abduction
happened. In his response, Col. Ojo said he got information about the attack at
about 1am at his station in Biu which was already
late as the sect members stormed the school at about 11pm.
2nd Lieut. Godknows was charged with
cowardly behaviour during the night of the attack. Counsel to Col. Ojo, Mr.

UNBELIEVABLE: GOSPEL SINGER ARRESTED FOR ROBBERY!
God have mercy! Akazue
Nwakonuche, 26, alias Akachkwu, a Gospel singer, has been arrested by operatives
of the Special-Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, Lagos State Police Command,
for being part of a robbery gang that used to snatch tricycles and motorbikes
from their owners.
Also in their custody are Okeke Christian, 29, and Paul Igwe, 20. Igwe is alleged to be the
leader of the gang. The fourth member of the gang, Monday Nwankpa is still
at large.
A police source
said: “The issue of tricycle snatching came as a surprise to us because most
robbers go for cars. To remove tricycles from park without being caught is not
easy. When information came to the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kayode Aderanti,
that a gang of robbers were snatching tricycles, he reacted immediately. The
operation was led by officer in charge of SARS, Abba Kyari. The first two
suspects were arrested at Ikotun. They were Okeke and Igwe.”
Nwakonuche, who
said he sings both hip-hop and gospel, said: “I was the first person to be
arrested because I was not able to escape with my colleagues. I’m a musician. I
sing hip pop and gospel music. I want to wax one of my songs called, ‘How I
suffered’ before I realised that the world is a school and every experience a
teacher. I could not complete senior secondary three (SS3) because of my
financial problem. I’m the first son of my parent’s eight children.
“I later went to
do house-boy for my uncle, Mr. Nonso Nwankwo in Onitsha Head Bridge Market,
where he trades on building materials. I worked there for five years. When he
could not help me by the year 2010, I went to Lagos to live with another uncle
called Anayo who sells clothes in Ikotun. I have two brothers in Lagos. One
travelled to India and left his shop to me. It was my friend, Paul who got me
into robbery. Paul told me about snatching tricycles. The next day he came with
Nwankpa and asked me to join them. I joined.
“The next day
being Thursday, they called me to follow them to do the job which put me in
this trouble. Paul gave me a toy gun and was holding cutlass, while Okeke was
not holding anything. We went to Ikotun Roundabout and chartered a tricycle for N300 to take us to Austino hotel. As we
were approaching the hotel, Paul gave me a sign to bring out my gun. I pointed
the toy gun to the head of the rider. But when he realised that it was a toy
gun, he refused to comply. He jacked up his tricycle, fought me and ran to
alert people, shouting thieves! Thieves!
“As I tried to
escape, I fell down and they arrested me and handed me over to Ikotun Police
while others escaped. They later transferred me to SARS and used me to arrest
Okeke and later Paul, while Nwankpa is still at large.”

CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE & LATE STELLA ADADEVOH MAKE CNN'S LEADING WOMEN 2014 LIST
The international media house
(CNN), recognized some of the world's leading women for the year 2014.
In a list released earlier today by Cable News
Network (CNN), late Dr Stella Adadevoh was recognized for her significant
contribution towards the prevention of the spread of the deadly Ebola virus in
Nigeria while Chimamanda Adichie was recognized for her contributions to African
Literature.
Other women who made the list included Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Oscar award winning actress Lupita Nyong'o, and IMF Chairman Christine Lagarde
CHILD BRIDE: 14-YEAR OLD GIRL ADMITTED TO KILLING HER 35-YEAR OLD HUSBAND
A 14-year-old child bride, yesterday at Kano State High Court,
admitted to killing her 35-year-old husband with rat poison, and signed a
police confession with a thumbprint because she cannot write!
The baby girl has been charged with murdering her
husband, Umar Sani, days after their marriage in Kano State.
The girl does not understand English, homicide
investigator Abdullahi Adamu translated her statement from the Hausa language
and “she had to use a thumbprint,” he told the court.
Co-wife’s story
The state’s lawyers, who are seeking the death penalty,
also called to the stand Tasi’u’s co-wife, identified as Ramatu.
Ramatu said she got along well with Tasi’u and that the
two had prepared the food together on April 5, the day Sani died. She testified
that because it was Tasi’u’s turn to share bed with Sani, Tasi’u was also
entitled to serve his meal. “After putting the food in the dish, I did not see
anybody put anything in it,” Ramatu said.
She said later her husband was helped back to the house
by a neighbour, unable to walk and foaming at the mouth.
The court overflowed, with crowd spilling out of the
gallery door and people peering in through the open windows.
The case has sparked outrage among human rights activists,
who say Nigeria should be treating Tasi’u as a victim, noting the possibility
that she was raped by the man she married.
Sharia
However, others in the region, including relatives of the
defendant and the deceased, have rejected the notion that Tasi’u was forced
into marriage.
They have said that 14 is a common age to marry and that
Tasi’u chose Sani from among many suitors.
A motion by defence lawyers to have the case moved to
juvenile court was rejected, despite claims by human rights lawyers
that she was too young to stand trial for murder in a high court.
Further complicating the case is the role of Sharia,
which allows children to marry according to some interpretations.
While sharia is technically in force in Kano, law
enforcement officials have no guidelines concerning how it should be balanced
with the secular criminal codes, creating a complex legal hybrid system.
According to Human Rights Watch, Nigeria is not
known to have executed a juvenile offender since 1997. The trial has been
adjourned until February 16, 2015.

MUHAMMADU BUHARI: NIGERIAN MUST BRACE UP FOR CHANGE...
There should be no complacency as the fact of Nigeria’s President-elect
is yet to be formalized in less than two months. But that fact is already known
to Nigerians and the outside world. Accordingly, voters must perfect their cards;
turn out as never before in Nigeria’s political history to cast their ballots.
Above all, they must defend their votes, a legitimate right all over the
world but ever blackmailingly twisted in Nigeria as incitement to post-election
violence.
Muhammadu Buhari’s emergence as All Progressive Congress’ presidential
candidate was at a stage threatened by the prospective chances of the other
four aspirants but his ten minute speech canvassing for support before the
votes were cast at the party’s convention threw delegates in their thousands
into wild acclamation.
The icing on the cake of Buhari’s victory was the transparent voting
pattern watched throughout by all delegates at the convention and millions of
Nigerians watching live on the television or listening on radio sets in their
homes throughout the country all night.
Very much like a carnival.
Very much like a carnival.
General Buhari’s speech destroyed
erstwhile political encumbrances, not the least money influence. He made it
clear he had neither dollars nor naira and according to him, even if he had, he
would not bribe delegates because he does not believe Nigerian leadership
should be for sale. Such bluntness was a risk only Buhari could have taken with
the potential of losing votes of the delegates.
In the past, such delegates would have, instead, fallen for money to
cast their votes, a bane which had disgusted respectable names from taking part
in politics. Before the convention, as proof of his sincerity, there were
advertorials in various newspapers (soliciting financial support) by Buhari
Supporters Organisation but with a signed personal undertaking by General
Buhari as the sole signatory with a pledge to account for every kobo donated.
General Buhari’s speech at the convention also destroyed the current
bogey of political hustlers parading as youths exploiting emotive sentiments to
demand a purported generational change. Reading that mood, one of APC’s
presidential aspirants, Rochas Okorocha, in his speech at the convention, solicited
for nomination among others, as the youngest of the lot at the age of 52.
Rather politely, Okorocha was turned down with shouts of “Arugbo la fe,”
literally meaning “we prefer older ones.” Like Bashorun M.K.O. Abiola 20 years
earlier, General Buhari’s candidacy bridged every divide – religious, ethnic,
class, zone, state, etc. Christians, non-Northerners, non-Fulanis, all
embracing him. Buhari has ignited how a President should be elected on a
platform of reputation, nation-wide acclamation, integrity and people’s trust.
The current crusade is for Nigeria on behalf of Nigerians. So far,
Muhammadu Buhari and his associates have done their best in assembling a
somewhat national coalition. That is the first leg. The second and final leg is
financing the campaigns. Buhari made the case clear in soliciting for campaign
donations.
Millions of Nigerians must contribute their effort from one hundred naira each to millions, scores and hundreds of millions of naira. It may not be easy but every effort is worthwhile. Buhari staked his integrity as the sole signatory. Nigerians must show their trust from the beginning. The Buhari Supporters Organisation must also reach out to Nigerians in Diaspora for donation.

Buhari staked his integrity as the sole signatory. Nigerians must show their trust from the beginning. The Buhari Supporters Organisation must also reach out to Nigerians in Diaspora for donation.
Then, there was Buhari’s master stroke in the choice of his running
mate, Yemi Osinbajo. Who else? The choice of the young man completely blocks
all other possible outstanding loopholes. The young ones, the modest, the
professionals and, as a fitting complement to General Buhari’s stature,
Osinbajo’s virtual all-round personal distinction. The delay in announcing
Osinbajo as General Buhari’s running mate particularly lured their political
opponents into a foolish belligerence of deriding the method.
With the announcement and choice of Osinbajo as Buhari’s running mate,
their political opponents now stand bereaved. Since the return of civilian rule
in 1999, the Buhari-Osinbajo is the first invincible presidential platform.
It’s been a long journey, which started in 2003 and the destination is now
nearest. In 1983, the then Imo State governor, Sam Mbakwe alerted Nigerians
that if he was rigged out of office, there would be perpetual dispute between
his family and the counterpart of whoever rigged him out of office. This time,
such a dispute would not be between the family of Buhari-Osinbajo but between
the outside world and whoever rigged the 2015 elections.
Reactions of ordinary Nigerians in South West shown on television
screens in Lagos also confirm the Buhari fever. Buhari under Tinubu? The
decision of APC presidential candidate Muhammadu Buhari to pick his running mate
through close consultations with his party associates especially the top shots
like Odigie-Oyegun, Bola Tinubu, Bisi Akande etc, generated derisive remarks
from PDP that if elected, Buhari would be controlled by Tinubu. Pity this
ignorance. Former President Ibrahim Babangida once disclosed that in the
military, officers are trained to dominate their environment. That should about
counter the PDP naivety..........
.
Following the death of Bashorun M.K.O. Abiola in detention, Nigeria was
compelled by the reality that a political compensation was inevitable to
appease South-West. Debate was therefore hottest on whether Yoruba should
exercise their right of choice. Instead, a Gang of Four, former President
Ibrahim Babangida, ex-Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar, retired army
Chief of Staff Lt. General Theo Danjuma and one of his successors Lt. General
Aliyu Gusau, unilaterally and self-servingly imposed one of their own, General
Olusegun Obasanjo not only on Yoruba but consequently on Nigeria.
In the midst of that debate, a compromise was reached to keep Jonathan
in office. For one or two terms? That was another divisive debate which
eventually splintered the PDP into virtually North and South factions. This
particular debate was an off-shoot of the post-2011 elections violent protests
against alleged widespread rigging of the elections.
By far, the decided debate which has foreclosed any debate for the 2015 elections totally unwarranted is the widespread public perception of the performance of President Goodluck Jonathan in the last four years. Boko Haram, the economy, disappearance of billions of dollars of public funds from NNPC, payment of fraudulent subsidy claims of over two trillion naira to oil importers with neither Jonathan’s knowledge nor National Assembly’s appropriation, level of corruption, Chibok girls, Jonathan’s eligibility to contest, gerrymandering of nominations of candidates on PDP platform etc. On all these issues, are based the campaigns for people’s votes in 2015.
Nigerians have listened to the criticism of PDP and its candidate Goodluck Jonathan. Nigerians have therefore made up their minds on who to vote for and nothing new can come from a useless debate to make the average voter change his mind. Election debate for 2015 elections? My foot!
