Mike Okiro, the former
Inspector-General of Police on Monday faulted the claims by a former Chairman
of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nuhu Ribadu, that he (Okiro)
plotted to kill him.
Ribadu, while giving
evidence in a case involving James Ibori in London, was reported as saying that
he was shot at on his way to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic
Studies.
The former police boss in a statement said
Ribadu’s claims were false.
He said, “Nigerians will
remember that Nuhu Ribadu once caused a newspaper publication to be made to the
effect that he was attacked and shot at on his way to NIPSS.
“The Commissioners of
Police, FCT, Abuja; Nasarawa, Kaduna and Plateau, the likely state commands
where the incident could have taken place, told me that no such incident
occurred in their commands. For him to turn round now and say that
I was involved “in attempts to assassinate him” demonstrates double
speak. He was an Assistant Inspector-General of Police under me.
Why would I want to assassinate a subordinate officer?”
