ZERO TOLERANTS FOR DRUG DEALERS IN ABUJA...AS ARMY HANDED OFF 27 SUSPECTED DRUG DEALERS

The Commander of the brigade of Guards, Brig.-Gen. Emmanuel Atewe, said  on Thursday in Abuja while handed over 27 suspected drug dealers, arrested in the FCT to the NDLEA  that the arrest followed existing close collaboration and cooperation among security agencies.

``I am an advocate of inter-agency cooperation and I believe that we can work better in an atmosphere of cooperation and cordiality without acrimony and without dispute.

``Because we are working for the same interest for national security and for the betterment of our system.''

Atewe said that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, had directed zero-tolerance for drugs in the country, adding that the brigade would carry out the assignment to the letter.

He assured the NDLEA boss that the brigade would continue to cooperate with the agency to ensure that the FCT was free of drug dealers.

``And we are encouraged to note that all the transfers of drug suspects that we have made to you, some of them had been prosecuted.

``I want to also let you know that the request made for continued collaboration and other auxiliary services are granted.

``I also want to thank you for the effort you are making to rehabilitate arrested drug dealers or users and to thank you that whatever you are doing is to the service of God and humanity, '' Atewe said.

Mr Chidi Obiefule, , the Commander of the NDLEA  while commended the military in the FCT, said that the problem of drug abuse was a serious problem that required serious action to handle and added that although the agency was given mandate to address the problem of drug abuse, the NDLEA recognised the fact that they could not eradicate the menace alone.

``That was why the agency was calling on the members of the pubic, the military and other security agencies to assist them as they cannot do it alone.

``These people that are abusing drugs are our children, our brothers and sisters and they are our fathers and those trafficking these drugs live with us.

``So it is something that law enforcement agencies cannot do without members of the public, so that is why we always call on everybody to join hands before the thing destroys the society.''
