Visa restrictions are an important
tool for governments to control the movement of people across borders. But the
lack of a visa requirement is also important – it's an indication of the
relationship between nations and the status of a country within the
international community.
Then how well Nigeria passport is
acceptable in the world in term of visa free? Nigeria passport ranked 171 and
it can only enter 55 countries uninhibited.
However, it is a fact that EU is home
to nine out of the top 10 countries whose citizens have the most freedom of
(visa-free) travel.
According to Henley & Partners,
the top rank in 2013 was jointly held by Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom
with a score of 173. The second rank was jointly held by Denmark, Germany,
Luxembourg and the US, scoring 172, an increase of two ranks for the US since
2012. Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands held joint third (171). Ireland alongside
countries like Canada, France and Japan came fourth and the holders of any
these passport can enter 170 countries uninhibited. Last place went to the tiny
European principality of Liechtenstein (159).
The index is a global ranking of
countries based on the freedom of travel for their citizens.
