GOOD NEWS FOR DRINKERS: AT LAST HANGOVER CURE FOUND

The researchers at Sun Yat-Sen University, in Guangzhou. China, claimed to have found the cure for hangover. And it was right in front our noses the whole time.

The group said they looked at what causes a hangover in the first place and discovered that symptoms such as nausea and headaches could be a result of the body breaking down the alcohol consumed.

It was discovered that after drinking, the liver releases an enzyme called alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) to break down the ethanol into acetaldehyde. This is then in turn broken down by an enzyme called aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) into acetate.

While acetate is considered harmless, exposure to acetaldehyde actually causes some of the unpleasant symptoms of a hangover.

With this information, the researchers then examined how 57 different drinks, including herbal infusions, teas and carbonated beverages, affected ADH and ALDH.

The result? Well, while some herbal teas in fact slowed down the process and prolonged a hangover, Sprite was found to speed the enzyme's work up.

Well this simple lemon and lime drink could in fact ease a hangover by shortening the body's exposure to acetaldehyde.
