The University of Jos has been shut down indefinitely due to a protest
by students over hike in fees turned
violent. The protest started yesterday morning with students holding university administrators
hostage in their offices.
The University Registrar, Jully
Dandam, after a hurriedly convened management meeting, announced the
institution will remain closed till further notice. The
school management also ordered all students to vacate the campus before 2 p.m. today.
It was learnt that a soldier attached to the Special Taskforce on Jos
crisis (STF), instead of calming the situation opened fire on protesters leaving at least 8 students with gun wounds including a blind one,
but the school management denied this claim.
