I have known Prof. Yemi Osinbajo for many years. He was my
teacher at the University of Lagos,where he taught me the Law of Evidence. He
is painstaking, amiable, hardworking with unassuming humility modest and has
respect for human dignity. An author of many books, a pedagogue who commands
mastery of his subject matter, Prof Osinbajo is the only teacher next to late
Prof. Billy J Dudley my Political Science at UI who will teach for hours un-end
without holding any piece of paper while citing authorities and cases with
dates. He is not only an erudite professor but also a legal luminary of the
highest standard
He is a honourable citizen, a dedicated Nigerian, a loyal
public servant with impeccable and sterling characters. Apart from being a
teacher for over 3 decades, Prof Osinbajo worked in different capacities of the
private and public sectors. He was Personal Assistant to Chief Bola Ajibola who
was one-time Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice during
the administration of General Badamosi Babangida as the President head of
State. He was also Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice
during the administration of Chief Bola Tinubu as Governor of the State.
As a lover of the less privileged people and the
down-trodden masses, Prof. Osinbajo created the Office of the Public Defender
to champion the causes of the oppressed, in all field of life. The Office was
headed at that time by Mrs (now Hon Justice ) Bisi Akinlade who is also
well-known to me. I can say without fear of contradiction that this innovation
is the first of its kind in the whole of the Federation I am not competent to
talk of his morality. Suffice it is to say that with him in any administration
he would see to it that lethal decadence and moral withering is minimised among
our youth.
An innovative,
dynamic,risk-taking educated man with triumphalist attitude, he would use his
wealth of knowledge and experience together with the leadership of the country,
to put in place many phenomenal plans, policies, projects and programs that
would make Nigeria a better place to live in once again. The transformation
agenda of the administration would lead the people out of bondage of chronic
poverty and hopelessness, to era of buoyancy, blessing, peace and harmony.
It was Lord Acton who once said,
"The strong man with dagger is followed by the weak-man with the sponge "
I can equally say that whoever thinks of high-handedness of General Buhari will be a minus, should have a consolation that he is followed by humble Prof Osinbajo with bags of APC and Panadol to offer to anybody in pains of life, in whatever ways and manners
With these few words, I congratulate Prof Yemi Osinbajo and wish him indefatigable success in this undertaking.
