Hauwa Esther Kadima, 61, mother of four, who was an accomplished professor of languages, and a published author, was allegedly beaten to death by her son in her home in Longview, Texas, on July 28th.

Daniel Kadima (left), deceased last child has been arrested in connection with her death.
According to the warrant, which was released Monday. When asked when he (Daniel) had last seen the deceased, he responded “yesterday,” police said. Kadima identified himself but did not say the victim’s name or the nature of their relationship. Police found her beaten to death - a bloody chair was lying next to her body. Police believe it was the murder weapon. She had fractures to her skull with laceration of the brain because of blunt impact to the head, according to autopsy findings. When asked what happened Daniel replied..."My duty was just to let you know."

In a sworn affidavit filed in the Gregg County District Clerk's Office, Daniel's ex-wife recounted past assaults and abuse from him, including four years ago when he allegedly head-butted her, breaking one of her teeth and busting her lip. She said he also would take her keys and lock her outside their apartment, but also restrain her when she wanted to leave their home. He also had video cameras installed in their marital home, video recording their daughter.

The motive for the killing is not yet known.

Dr. Kadima was a long-time professor of languages and mass communications at the University of Jos, Nigeria, where for many years she also served as a Head of Department. She was born in 1953 in the village of Bakin Kogi in the southern part of the State of Kaduna.
