Ebonyi State Police Command Tuesday paraded nine
suspects in connection with various crimes ranging from armed robbery, cultism,
and unlawful possession of firearms to vandalism.
Among those paraded include members of a robbery gang
that operates on highways. They are; Ndubuisi Iseh, 23; Uchenna Nweke, 24, and
Sunday Elom, the driver.
The hoodlums had perfected plans to rob in Lagos but were prevented by the police who trailed them after snatching their rifles which they wanted to use for the operation.
Parading the suspects at Police Headquarters, Abakaliki, the state Commissioner of Police, Peace Ibekwe Abdallah told newsmen that the hoodlums attacked a team of policemen on stop and search duty at Evangel Camp junction, Okpoto in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.
She disclosed that the gang inflicted bullet wounds and machete cuts on the policemen during the attacked and snatched three AK47 rifles with 20 rounds of live ammunition in each of the rifles.
