According to PM News, there was a
mild drama on Tuesday, December 8, at Ejigbo Magistrates’ court when a suspect
jumped off the building to evade trial!
Tomiwa Bolaji, 22, was arrested and charged
before the court for allegedly stealing a generator set belonging to Moses
Udeze at his residence located at 11, Adenekan Street where Bolaji was caught
by residents while escaping with the generator and handed over to the police at
Ejigbo Division where he confessed to having stolen the set to sell and raise
money.
He was charged to court on a one
count charge of stealing under the Criminal Code. He pleaded guilty during his
arraignment. The prosecutor, Mr Ishaku Babaji urged the court to give a short
date to enable him present fact and sentence. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J. O.
E. Adeyemi ordered him to be remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending the
date for fact and sentence. The case was adjourned till 14 December.
However, while the court officials
were preparing his remand papers, Bolaji suddenly got up and jumped off the
court building. Security guards, court registrar, and police officers pursued
and finally re-arrested him. He was taken back into the court for trial and
sent to prison.
