A dad charged with
murdering his pregnant daughter allegedly lived with her corpse for days before
his arrest.
The body of Anndrea Caruth
was found stuff stuffed inside a crawlspace next to her father’s basement
apartment, police said.
The 39-year-old, who was
found with a rope wrapped around her throat and torso, struggled to survive in
the last minutes of her life, the Daily News reported.
Police said William
Caruth, 61, had bite marks on both hands and a cut on the bridge of his nose
when he was taken into custody.
Valentina Caiazzo, the
previous owner of the family’s apartment, told the News: “She really fought for
her life.
“(Anndrea) was the nicest
person. I thought she was good … this is a shocker.”
Her body was found, partially
buried in gravel, by a cadaver-sniffing dog inside the Baychester, New York,
home about 3am on Wednesday, police said.
She had been strangled and
smashed in the head, suffering skull fractures and brain injuries.
Police allege that after
killing his daughter, her father broke up a concrete floor inside a closet and
dumped her body into the crawlspace.
He then placed a piece of
plywood and a rug over the hole — but the smell of the body wafted into the
house, sources told the Daily News .
A machete and a hammer
were recovered from the home, and two additional buckets of gravel were found
outside the residence on Corsa Avenue.
Caruth, who was visited by
police on five occasions for domestic incidents between 2001 and 2013, was also
charged with manslaughte rafter police uncovered his daughter’s
remains. She was five months pregnant.
There was a dispute
between the father and daughter over a second mortgage taken out on the home by
Anndrea Caruth, with the dad apparently giving the cash to someone else, one
source said.
Records indicate the
murdered daughter, four years after taking out a mortgage on the property, took
out a larger $280,000 (£191,000) mortgage in 2006.
