RECKLESS SPENDING BY LAGOS LAWMAKERS: APPROVED N80 MILLIONS FOR WIVES TRIP TO DUBAI~~OBASA

Nigerians have reacted to the recent revelation by the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly admitting that N80million was approved by the House for 20 wives of lawmakers for a trip to Dubai.

Obasa, who appeared before the Hon. Victor Akande-led panel set up by the House to investigate the series of allegations levelled against him by an online medium denied the allegations, but insisted that the N80million was duly approved and justified.

According to him, “We gave N4m to each of the participants for air ticket, hotels, feedings and local travel.

“Air ticket to Dubai alone cost about N2million. Some of these allegations were raised for a crusade to get the Speaker out of office.

“The House of Assembly is above common standard of excellence and we have to train people, and this comes at a cost. Learning is not cheap and I have never collected N80m for estacode at a go before,” he said.

But Nigerians have flayed the Speaker, just as they called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately take over the matter and investigate the allegations of misappropriation against the speaker.

According to them, it was outrageous for the Speaker to say that it cost N2million for a return ticket to Dubai, while some wondered why wives of lawmakers, who were not elected by Nigerians, will be funded on an overseas trip with tax payers’ money.

Reacting to the report on Punch.ng, Ejyksbaba wondered how the Speaker arrived at N2million for return ticket to Dubai, saying that it was the height of corruption.

“Lagos/Dubai return air ticket is about N500,000. It can’t be N2m as misrepresented by the speaker. Corruption has eaten too deep into the fabrics of our country, and the situation appears utterly hopeless. When a former prime minister of UK said publicly that Nigeria was “fantastically corrupt”, many felt the remark was unmerited. However, every passing day the situation gets even worse, and the impoverished populace looks on helplessly, hopelessly. Things have just got to change, not in mouthing change alone. There has got to be REAL CHANGE by a new generation of men and women with strong moral character and fear of God,” Ejyksbaba wrote.

Eche wrote, “This probe panel would be corrupt and compromised not to indict this speaker, what airline ticket costs 2M naira to Dubai? Abi na moon them go first class? No na, this corruption thing is going too high and people are just looking, haha 2m naira for ticket. La wa oooooooooooooooo”

Bashir Jibril Ibrahim wrote: “Which position occupied by their spouses? Why Dubai? Why not at Lagos? Why not at Calabar? Why not at Abuja? I pity tax payers”.

Bolaji Adewunmi Adebanjo wrote, “Kangaroo panel! How fortunate for the government that people they rule do not think and act. Ideally this thief should have resigned or step aside as Speaker and member of the house to allow independent panel to investigate him. So, that he denied all Sahara’s allegations, Lagosians should go to sleep and allow the looting to continue? When the truth is known, deceits become useless!

“As a Lagosian, I have wondered for years, why many of these politicians that lead the affairs of this state are nothing but half- baked public administrators! Mr. Speaker, every allegation against you has iota of truth because every event happened. I do not expect you to accept the corruption allegations against you. But remember, someday, the poor that your greed has created in Lagos will have nothing to eat, but you and your other politicians ( as well as your children) whose personal aggrandizements have further deepening poverty in this State! 20 years of the government in Lagos but little to show! All of sudden, ICPC and EFCC claim to be oblivious of these allegations because na APC members dey involved!”

Tito wrote: “As a person who have the power to detect thieves, I can see a pen robber on the face of Obasa. Mere looking at him in the above picture speaks a lot. He is a thief. His face tells me that Obasa is a liar and a thief. The oracle just confirmed it that Obasa is a BIG THIEF. Obasa PLS. tell us the truth, YOU ARE A THIEF.”

Felicia Akinwale also wrote, “With these stupid statements, Obasa just admitted his guilt. He spends recklessly on issues that are of no benefits to the masses. Everything he cares about is his immediate circle of hangers on. Any Lagosian who after these revelation votes APC is the enemy of progress. Let’s get an opposition party into Alausa to reveal the monumental corruption Tinubu and his stooges are perpetuating. Dem don swear for this Obasa. EFCC should arrest him afterall they prosecuted Ikuforiji.”

Several groups have also petitioned the EFCC to immediately commence investigations on the Speaker.
