PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER RETIREES ARE SUFFERING IN LAGOS STATE

Lagos State civil service pensioners, especially the primary school teacher retirees have accused the Lagos state government of depriving them of their pension rights. According to our source, the primary school teachers that retired between 2017-2000, have not been paid a dime!

Sometime ago,the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (Lagos State Civil Service branch), Mr. Victor O. Ogundimu accused the state government of making pensioners to suffer indignity. He pointed out that instances abound where pensioners dropped dead after collecting their pensions because of the stress they went through on pay days.

However, it baffled me to read that "The Lagos State Government says it has paid over N1 billion retirement benefit bond into the Retirement Savings Account (RSA) of 218 retirees under the state public service for the month of August.

According to the Director-General, Lagos State Pension Commision (LASPEC), Mr Babalola Obilana made the disclosure at the 78th Batch Retirement Bond Presentation ,said  that N1.01 billion was paid and assured that the commision would continue to be resolute in forging ahead with the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

Director-General, Lagos State Pensions Commission (LASPEC), Babalola Obilana, in a statement , said the approval was to ensure that retirees get their terminal entitlements paid at the appropriate time

Obilana, who urged the retirees to always make use of the commission’s electronic platforms to send their correspondents, said: “Scan and send all your documents to the agency through the e-mail address: info@laspec.gov.ng or morenike.makinde@laspec.gov.ng

“For enquiries, retirees can also check their retirement bond certificates readiness at LASPEC portal which is laspecportal.com.ng.”

However, what about the Primary school teachers that retired between 2017-2020? When would they enjoyed the fruits of their labour?
