KIDNAPPER EVANS CHANGED HIS PLEA TO 'NOT GUILTY'

Suspected kidnap kingpin, Evans has pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and Kidnapping of one Dunu Donatus an offence allegedly committed in February  2017.

Evans had earlier pleaded guilty to the two-count charge at his arraignment on August 30, 2017. The court reconvened at 11.45am today and the amended charges have been read to all six defendants and they all pleaded “not guilty”.

The Prosecution has indicated their readiness to proceed with the trial. They have three witnesses in court to testify.

The suspect was arraigned alongside five others; Uche Amadi, Ogechi Izechuwku, Okechukwu Nwachukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi and Victor Chukwunonso.

Following the plea of all six defendants, the Attorney General of Lagos State, Adeniji Kazeem, who led the prosecution, asked for a trial date and for all defendants to be remanded in prison custody.

With this, the Lagos State Government has amended the charges it filed against Evans and the five others. The Director of Public Prosecution, DPP Lagos State, Titilayo Shitta-Bey told Justice Hakeem Oshodi that the amendment relates only to the punishment section for the second charge.

The DPP also submitted that there is no material change in the nature of the offence which still remains conspiracy and the kidnap of one Dunu Donatus.

EVANS WAS FORCED TO PLEAD GUILTY~~HIS LAWYER

Barrister Olukoya Ogungbeje, the counsel to the notorious Kidnapper Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka  Evans, has alleged that his client was forced to plead guilty.

In a statement issued after Evans pleaded guilty at his arraignment, the lawyer said his client would change his plea to not guilty at the resumed hearing on October 19.

The statement reads:

"It must be noted that our client had been in police custody since 10th of June 2017 till date and his lawyer and family members have been denied access to him.

"His arraignment was brought to our attention through the social media platform. We rushed to court in a bid to confer with our client before the commencement of proceedings but the Police denied us access to him.

"We sought for adjournment to enable us confer with our client in line with the provisions of Section 36(6) (2) of the Constitution but same was turned down by the court.

"Moreso, the information/charge sheet was served on us in open court on the same day of arraignment."

According to Ogungbeje, his client informed him of his intention to change his plea.

"After the purported guilty plea of our client and the court rose, our client told us clearly that the police told him to plead guilty failing which the police will kill him.

"This is definitely unconstitutional and we intend to challenge this unconstitutional procedure of hoodwinking, unduly influencing, brainwashing and coercing an accused into entering a guilty plea against his wish and freewill.

"Our client pointedly told us that being informed now, he will change his 'police motivated guilty plea' to 'not guilty' at the next adjourned date.

"It is settled law that plea of guilty must be made voluntarily and devoid of any influence, coercion and manipulation.

"We have a responsibility to assist the cause of justice in accordance with the law."

Evans as well as two of the five suspects arraigned with him, pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of kidnapping and conspiracy brought against them.

Those arraigned with him were — Uche Amadi, Ogechi Uchechukwu, Okwuchukwu Nwachuckwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi and Victor Chukwunonso Aduba.

Hakeem Oshodi, the judge who presided over the case, had ordered that they be remanded in Kirikiri prison.

BILLIONAIRE KIDNAPPER EVANS REPORTEDLY VANISHED !

According to a report be Saturday Sun, billionaire kidnapper, Evans has vanished from police custody and taken to an unknown location. Read their report below...
Saturday Sun has gathered that Evans is not dead as his family now fears but has been moved from the Lagos police command headquarters cell by about 30 heavily armed men at midnight few days ago to an undisclosed destination. Some senior police officers in the know told Saturday Sun he was moved to Abuja Indeed, in the last few days, a palpable silence seemed to have enshrouded the Evans phenomenon.

Where is Evans? It is a question the police is not prepared to officially answer right now. A man who hitherto divulged the details of his criminal life to the public almost on a daily basis is suddenly no longer accessible to even the press corps. All a Saturday Sun reporter who visited the state police command was told was that Evans is no longer allowed to talk to the press till further notice.
The secrecy surrounding his whereabouts in the official quarters baffles those who have closely followed his story since his arrest.

After days of sniffing around the Lagos police formations to get information on Evans whereabouts, it was gathered that the kidnap kingpin had been moved out of the Lagos command headquarters days ago by heavily armed policemen and is yet to be returned.
Police had last week said they had got a court order to detain him for three months to give them enough time to complete their investigation. This followed two suits filed by Evans lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, at the High Court seeking his release and claiming N300m damages from the police. Some senior police officers who spoke to Saturday Sun on condition of anonymity expressed fears that Evans might not make it to the court.

They argued that he might plot his escape from prison, or get across to some of his members who are still on the run. Their concerns are not farfetched, given that several inmates in the past had reportedly committed much heinous crimes even while in prison.
Some of the officers confirmed that Evans was no longer in the police cell in Lagos. “He has not been returned since he was moved out. Evans is a broken man; police can’t resort to extra-judicial killings at this point. He is cooperating, and he is ready to help return all his ill-gotten wealth as soon as possible”, one of the officers said.

Another reliable source at the police command told Saturday Sun “Evans is not an ordinary criminal. I guess that they took him out for further investigation but I don’t know why they are yet to return him to his cell.” The source further assured: “No one is planning to kill Evans. I believe that they will return him later. He could be in any good cell in the state for security reasons, but I can assure you that he is not dead yet. Even if anything happens to him, if he dies in custody, it will be as a result of cancer which he claims he is suffering from.”

"I HAVE RESPONSIBILITY TO DEFEND SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER"~~LAGOS LAWYER

Lagos lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, has justified his decision to defend suspected notorious kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, a.k.a. Evans, in court.

Ogungbeje has come under public criticisms for accepting the brief to seek freedom for Evans from police detention, or have him charged to court, weeks after his arrest. Nigerians had taken to the media to condemn the move, saying, the notorious criminal suspect who confessed to denying his victims their freedom did not deserve mercy considering the atrocities he reportedly committed with his gang members.

But, speaking with Saturday Sun yesterday, Ogungbeje, accused a section of the media, as well as many Nigerians of being ignorant of the law.

Citing a judgment delivered by Lord Denning, regarded as the most famous and influential judicial figure of the last century, he noted that it was settled in law that “no matter the bases of the complaints of the cause of your crime, no matter how unpopular is the cause of your crime, no matter how bad is the cause of your crime, the legal practitioner has a duty to take up the cause, if he’s properly briefed and provided that person represents his client within the bounds of law.”

He added:

“That is my answer to your question. So, no matter the public opinion, I have the responsibility to take up the matter. We were properly briefed. So, our action is based on law. And we want to represent our client within the bounds of law, within the confines of law. So, if you for instance, you’re a journalist, if you brief me… you don’t want me to take up your cause, because people are saying negative things about you, or because people have condemned you and found you guilty before the media, that I should not take up your case?
“Look, let me tell you right away. We were briefed two weeks ago. And I told them to give me two weeks to think, whether I would take up the brief or not. I did my consultations. We consulted even journalists, you can go and make enquiries. I consulted my people. I consulted senior lawyers. So, have I done what is wrong by taking the cause of my clients? Forget what people say in the court of public of opinion.

"NNAMDI KANU ALLEGEDLY COLLECTED $5000 MONTHLY FROM EVANS"~~KEMI OLUNLOYO

Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo took to her social media pages to blast Biafrans and their leader, Nnamdi Kanu. According to her, what happened in July 1966 is not something anyone will pray for to happen again.

She also said over her dead body will Nigeria be separated. She wrote;

“Biafrans are so f*ckn DUMB. They think Fani Power and Fayose are agitating for them. All my brothers are doing are preventing a repeat of July 1966 when Ibos were slaughtered in #Makurdi and other parts of the north in revenge for Nzeogwu’s attack on the northern and yoruba leaders. FFK and I LIVED IT! My father was 31yo and a commissioner in Akintola’s government. He ran to Akintola’s house that morning before the soldiers arrived. My mom a mere 26yo secretarial assistant was the one typing the letters fast as she told me I was 2yo and sick that morning sitting next to her. The letters were to tell the cabinet and others that the soldiers were COMING and they had killed Ahmadu Bello, Tafawa Balewa and Okotie- Eboh that morning. Meanwhile in Agodi government house, the Premier had vanished and went to his private residence armed with guns in Iyaganku. My dad was with him and told Akintola to leave! He said I will be an “Omo Akin” his last words meaning BRAVE TILL THE END. Historical archives say Akintola exchanged gunfire with the soldiers. MY FATHER HAD JUST LEFT HIS HOUSE THAT MORNING!!

Meanwhile on the Remi Fani-Kayode side at the Deputy Premiere’s residence in Agodi (still the Deputy Governor’s residence to this date) the soldiers arrived and were beating the hell out of FFK’s father with their guns RIGHT IN FRONT OF FEMI WHO WAS 5yo. Femi, myself and my mom recounted this moment Jan 2016 over the phone last year on the 50th anniversary. Femi told my mom he vividly remembers. They then took his dad away. He later escaped death.
In all this 1966 tragedy, only Ojukwu and Azikiwe the other Nnamdi ESCAPED so u see why the Hausas got mad and slaughtered the Igbos. There will be no damn BIAFRA! You Biafrans must fight back and get the LAME NPF to arrests Arewa Youths. Osinbajo and El Rufai ordered that. Nothing has been done. Stop using that as an excuse to divide Nigeria and form the B!
#Igbos are extremely intelligent people. This entire Yorubaland will not be developed without them. If they leave, Ibadan’s economy alone WILL COLLAPSE.
#Biafrans however are smart but NOT intelligent people. Fuck off Biafrauds!

YOU WILL NOT SEPARATE NIGERIAGAIN! UNDER MY DEAD BODY!
THIS IS MY FINAL SAY ON #NNAMDI’s foolishness. You have the audacity to accuse politicians of taking bribes, looting and even DISRESPECTING GEJ the best president ever?? Who are u sef? Yet you allegedly collected $5000 monthly at IPOB from #Evans a classic Nigerian criminal.
Fuck you Kanu! Ive done prison twice in Nigeria where its a badge of honor. Prison doesn’t await you again.
HELL AWAITS YOU!!
Buhari/Osinbajo and all Nigerians RIDE ON.
#OneNigeria.
I HAVE BLOCKED ALL BIAFRANS WHO INSULTED ME WHEN I WAS ADVOCATING FOR THIS MOVEMENT. COMMENT AND SPEAK YOUR MIND. THE LUCKY MORONS GET A REPLY from #AdaBiafra to #Ashawo. Your disgruntled change of my name.

POLICE ARE CLOSING IN ON EVANS' WIFE...WANTED FOR VITAL INFORMATION

Determined to catch and quiz suspected Nigerian notorious kidnapper Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike aka Evans’ wife, Mrs Uchenna Precious Onwuamadike, detectives attached to the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT), have synergised with Ghanaian said sources.

According to the sources, the synergy became imperative after Uchenna, along with her children bolted from her their building in Ghana on hearing that IRT operatives had arrested her husband.

The sources urged Uchenna to come out from hiding, stressing that no harm would be done to her. She was only wanted for questioning and to ensure that she was not part of Evans’ operations.

The need to quiz Uchenna became vital after Evans claimed to have given her some of his ill-gotten loot to keep. The woman, had, however admitted to have received only N20million from her husband.

It was also learnt that some handpicked policemen might have to move down to Ghana because of the case.

One of the sources said: “Our IGP and the number one policeman in Ghana have discussed. The two countries are now working together. Mrs Evans is in hiding, but from all indications, she would soon be picked. She ran away from her former abode and is now hiding somewhere.

“The truth however, is that police are not after her. She has children to look after. The police just want to ask her some questions about Evans. We are building evidences against Evans and trying to get more exhibits. We also want to recover some of the ransom money, which Evans said he gave to her to keep.  She wouldn’t be detained because of the children. Yes, she would be detained if we have evidence that she participated in any of Evans’ operations.”

Speaking on the international police collaboration, another source said: “Nigerian Police will soon visit Ghana. People close to her should advise her to come out of hiding and clarify some issues.”

Meanwhile, IRT operatives have recovered two passports from Evans. One is a Ghanaian passport with a fictitious name of Asare Nelson.

The second is a Nigerian passport with the name Onwuamadike Chukwudumeme Somto. Whether Evans has other countries passports is yet unknown, but he had always insisted that he had only travelled to Ghana.

New Telegraph news on Thursday, had exclusively reported that Evans had different fake names which he uses in different states, creating confusion among policemen hunting for him.

It took a while for policemen hunting him in different states to realise that the names belonged to one character.

A source said: “The suspect uses different names in each state he operates. In Edo State, he is called Sunny, Port Harcourt, Richard, in Lagos at his magodo estate, they call him George. Among his gang members, they know him as Evans and in Anambra State; they know him as Somto, while his four mistresses know him as Mike. Policemen men in different states were busy, running up and down, hunting for different men, unaware that they were hunting for the single man.  He did all that to outsmart security agents. He is extremely intelligent.”

"WHY I DON'T OPERATE IN YORUBA STATES"~~EVANS

The Nigerian suspected notorious kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike aka Evans, yesterday, revealed why he doesn’t operate in south west.

According to Evans, he prefers to operate in Enugu, Abia, Lagos and Edo states. He said he is from Anambra State and as such, didn’t like carrying out robbery operations or kidnapping in his state.

He said: “Police tracking located me in Anambra State, but it was not because I committed robbery or even kidnapped anyone there. If I kidnapped someone in Lagos, I sometimes go to Anambra State to collect the ransom, just to avoid detention.”
Challenged that he once carried out simultaneous robbery operation in Oyo State in 2010, where three banks were robbed, Evans shrugged his shoulders in repulsion for supposed Yoruba states.

He vehemently said: “No! I have never operated in any Yoruba state, let alone Oyo State. I have never operated there; Lagos is my state. I mostly operated from Lagos. Moreover, I also didn’t like operating in Yoruba states because I don’t know my way around there. I don’t know the terrains. It’s not right to go where you don’t know, except you have someone that can lead you.”

Yesterday, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr. Jimoh Moshood, said investigations into the alleged crimes against Evans and his gang members, had reached advanced stages.

He added that the judicial process for his conviction or otherwise, will "soon" begin before a court of competent jurisdiction.

Moshood said: “Evans is going to be taken to court very soon, on completion of investigation."

When asked where the billionaire suspect will be tried, in view of the fact that he had committed the alleged offences in different states,

Moshood responded: "He will be tried before a court of competent jurisdiction."

POLICE WOMAN IMPLICATED IN EVANS 2006 BANK ROBBERY IN LAGOS

Suspected kidnap kingpin Chukwudumeje George Onwuamadike (aka Evans) has confessed that a gunshot scar on his shoulder came from the injury he sustained during a 2006 bank robbery in Lagos.

This is contrary to his earlier claim that he got the injury during a fracas following a drug business in South Africa in 2007 !

Evans, who was confronted with a newspaper interview that indicated the scar was as a result of a gun duel between him and his gang members at the National Theatre in Surulere, Lagos Mainland, admitted that he lied earlier.

According to the suspect, he and his gang members robbed a bank in 2006. While sharing the loot, there was a disagreement, which led to a fight.

He admitted that they started shooting themselves, adding that many of the robbers died. He was seriously injured and abandoned by the others.

The kingpin also admitted that he was arrested by the police, adding that he and two  others were transferred to the Imo State Police Command, where they were released.

The officer in charge of the Inspector General of Police’ (IGP) Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Abba Kyari, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), said:

“Evans was confronted with the interview on Sunday and he admitted that the bullet wounds are from disagreement over sharing of loot after bank robbery in Lagos in 2006. They shot one another and many gang members died while Evans survived with bullet wounds.”
A Superintendent of Police with the Band section of the Police College in Lagos, simply identified as Tina, reportedly sought to get the case being put together against Evans after the bank robbery dropped. Her attempt was rebuffed.

She reportedly travelled to Owerri from where a report was sent requesting the transfer of Evans to the command because of another case he was involved in, which they claimed was under investigation.

The kingpin was quietly released in Owerri. Tina is believed to be related to Evans’ mother.

The Nation reports that the police were out to fish out all those who participated in the 2006 release of Evans and two of his gang members. They are to be prosecuted.

A source told them:  “It is true that they have started looking for that Tina woman and many other officers who were serving at the Imo State Command at that time that Evans was released. So many heads will roll in this matter.”

"WE ARE UNDER PRESSURE TO RELEASE EVANS"~~POLICE

The Lagos state police authority says that the force is being pressurized to released billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike alias Evans, Daily Trust reports.

Acting Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Galadanshi Dasuki while addressing news men at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja yesterday, said that the Police won't release Evans, inspite of calls from different quarters to do so.

“Evans has been a kidnapper for a long time and has been on the wanted list of the Police in Anambra, Abuja , Enugu, Edo and Lagos states. He also has a criminal gang, some of whom have been arrested in Enugu and Lagos. But there are still more out there. Therefore, this needs a painstaking investigation. Besides, we need to under study him as well as debrief him. By so doing, we intend to use his tactics to get others. He will eventually be charged to court after investigation is concluded”

"TOP IGBO BUSINESSMEN SHARED THE RANSOM WITH ME"~~EVANS

Suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeje George Onwuamadike (AKA Evans) has finally admitted some prominent southeast businessmen provided information on victims and shared from the ransoms.

The Nation gathered yesterday that the suspect had given a lot of names to the police, most of whom were currently being tracked.

It was gathered that the kingpin also disclosed that some of his accomplices were based in Europe, which explained his craze to collect ransoms in foreign currencies.

According to a source, Evans explained that he usually shared the loot with his informants on a 60%/40% basis.

The source said Evans had threatened to make a public announcement should the police fail to arrest those he mentioned.

He said:
“It is true. He has mentioned some very prominent businessmen from the southeast as those who provided information on people he kidnapped. He claimed that they shared from the ransoms he collected.

“Evans claimed that most of his accomplices were based in Europe and that they were into drug business. The information he provided is being investigated. You do not expect the police to go and arrest people just like that.

“We have to be sure there is a connection between Evans and those mentioned. Once that is established, they would all be arrested. But he has been threatening to go public, if people mentioned are not arrested”

NOTORIOUS KIDNAPPER EVANS OBTAINED GHANAIAN PASSPORT UNDER FAKE NAME 'ASARE NELSON'~~IGP IDRIS

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has revealed that Nigerian billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudubem Onwuamadike, also known as Evans, did not only fraudulently secure a Ghanaian passport, but also acquired one for the wife and two of his children.

The IGP was speaking in an interview with Ghanaian medium, Joy News, where he disclosed that Evans was issued a Ghanaian passport this year under a fake name, Asare Nelson in Accra.

The Ghanaian passport was found on Evans during when he was arrested on June 10 in his home in Lagos.

According to the news outlet, the IG revealed that Evans’ wife and two children are also in possession of Ghanaian passports.

He explained that the Nigerian passport of his wife bears the name Uchenna Precious Onwuamadike issued at the Abuja passport headquarters while her Ghanaian passport bears the name Precious Asare born sometime in July of 1985.

The children’s passports also bear the last name Asare all issued in Accra, according to Idris.

A document signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Abba Kyari and presented to the IGP revealed that Evans has moved his wife and five children to Ghana because of the nature of his business.

IGP Idris also revealed that the kidnapper’s residence in Ghana is located at the Spintex Road in Accra and that the duplex structure is where Mrs. Uchenna Precious Onwuamadike resides with their children.

He said the Nigerian police is very interested in the case because Evans kidnapped people and took ransom in United States dollars.

He said he will collaborate with the Ghana Police Service because Evans’ acts go beyond the shores of Nigeria.

Idris said, “I requested for my force in Nigeria to send me some documents to share with the IGP to show him the locations of all his property in Ghana as well as copies of his passports.

“Evans owns two big plush duplexes in Accra.”

“I hope Ghanaian police can take the fraudulent acquisition of passport up to block people like him from acquiring Ghanaian passports through dubious means,” he said.

According to the IGP, the documents available to them so far revealed that Evans’ victims are all Nigerians.

FESTAC TOWN: AT LEAST 10 MILLIONAIRES ARE VICTIMS OF KIDNAPPING

At least, 10 millionaires have fallen victims of abduction for money at Festac Town, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area , Lagos State in the last couple of months, according to investigation. A police source attached to Area ‘E’ Police Command, said:

“Since June last year, till date, about 10 rich men had been kidnapped in Festac and Satellite. We know these kidnappers are the same. Their modus of operation is the same. They wear military camouflage uniform and use the same type of vehicles. Most of the victims are traders at ASPAMDA section of the Trade Fair Complex.”

Another police source said: “One of the millionaires in Festac called me; he said many of them are scared and are currently moving out of Festac. He said he didn’t understand what was going on in Festac. He said towards the end of last year, he had counted five millionaires that had been kidnapped.

“When he was counting the victims, he wasn’t aware of the recent kidnap of one Frank Umeh. He said that what troubles them most in Festac about the kidnapping, is that the kidnappers used to demand ransoms in dollars.

One of the residents also told me that one of the victims’ ransom was paid in South Africa.” He added that the reason for the demand of dollar was not farfetched. He linked it to weakening naira and increasing power of dollar.

On Thursday, the latest victim, Frank Umeh, like other victims, was kidnapped by men in military uniforms at Raji Rasaki Estate, Amuwo-Odofin. Residents described Umeh as an industrialist. A resident added: “The kidnappers were in military uniform.

They trailed Umeh to the front of his house. A driver was driving him. They didn’t bother with the driver. They just took only Umeh. It’s the same gang that had been kidnapping rich men in Festac.” It was learnt that the family of one of the victims paid $1 million.

The kidnappers later said the family was rude to them and refused to release the victim. They now demanded another $1 million. A stranger visiting some parts of Festac like 21, 22 roads, 7, 3 and 4th avenues, would be embarrassed at how residents stare and monitor his or her movements. Before Umeh’s abduction, one Mr. Cosmas Ojukwu Anayo was kidnapped at the estate’s gate, leading to his house. Anayo, a businessman at Trade Fair Complex, was driving back to his home, House 16, X Close, 21 Road, when he was kidnapped. Anayo’s abduction was said to have occurred around 8:15p.m. penultimate Thursday.

The business mogul was in company with four of his apprentices when they were waylaid at X Close gate. The kidnappers took Anayo, but allowed the four apprentices to go. A relative of Anayo, who refused to disclose his name, confirmed the abduction. He said: “It happened on Thursday.
The victim’s wife is not at home now. She should be the person to decide who to speak to. Since he was abducted, we have not received any call or mention of ransom. We are worried about his safety.”

A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, also spoke on Anayo’s abduction. He said: “We were praying when we saw men dressed in military camouflage, fully armed in front of the gate. They must have trailed him. They simply asked him to follow them and he cooperated.

They hurled him inside their vehicle and drove off.” According to him, there had been cases of rampant kidnapping in the area. He added: “The kidnappers’ usual method of operation is to abduct their victims and remain incommunicado for about a week before they start negotiating with the victim’s family.” Last year, kidnappers abducted the wife of the Sun Newspaper’s Deputy Managing Director, Mrs. Toyin Nwosu. The abduction took place within the same locality as that of Anayo.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Dolapo Badmus, said she did not know the number of kidnap victims in Festac and its environs. She said: “I can confirm Francis Umeh who was kidnapped on January 28, 2016, at Festac. Police do not have record of serial kidnapping. But investigation is in high gear to unravel the incident. We are hopeful that very soon the victim would be released.”

EFUNSETAN ANIWURA AND OTHER EVANS STORIES

“The first operation I went with the gang was at Uguruta Junction on the Port-Harcourt International Airport Road. We attacked some vehicles conveying a huge sum of money in foreign currency. We killed all the policemen escorting them including a man the police identified as the Regional Manager of the bank where the money came from. After that operation, I was given N3 million as my share…” The person who made that statement was a man nicknamed White Witch, who had participated in 15 bank and bullion van robberies and made millions. His ambition was to retire from robbery into politics. And he almost realised that ambition but for nemesis. He was arrested around this time last year shortly before his swearing in as a cabinet member by a state governor: “Two weeks before my arrest, I was shortlisted as a Special Adviser to the Governor, and we were waiting for him to return from his trip abroad so that he would swear us into our various offices. I did not know that the police had got to know about my activities.” If he had not been bursted, one day, he probably would have become the governor of his state, appointing his gang members as commissioners.

I wonder how many White Witches and how many of the now very popular kidnap don, Evans, we willingly elect every four years into our lives. A former senator who is a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police once declared that the National Assembly was a tank of confirmed criminals. He got elected into the Senate, looked around and the faces he saw were those of his former suspects in violent crimes. He famously declared that there were armed robbers in the chambers. Shocked Nigerians, as usual, gasped but moved on to the next drama. That was in the legislature. Among the more audacious executive, how many felons do you think could have been laundered into Government Houses? Some people are heirs to the throne of Satan but society celebrates and venerates them. Some have come and gone with crowns of life leadership on their heads. At their exit from power, they keep the chain unbroken, handing over to their gang members. The results have been reigning dynasties of criminals. Imagine if Evans, the doyen of kidnapping business in Nigeria, had contested the last elections, he would have won and would have escaped into real heroism, especially if he built dubious bridges and distributed cash and rice to all who caught his fancy. His 40th birthday would have been marked with lectures delivered by the brightest professors around with a honorary doctoral degree as the icing on the cake.

And getting into government would not have prevented the felon from continuing his bloody business. Indeed, it would have enhanced and sustained it. He could kidnap anyone, including his Accountant General and then collect ransom from his state. A whole month’s statutory allocation may go into that. No EFCC would harass him for paying it out. It is a humanitarian gesture. As a governor, he would have immunity from suspicions, from investigations and from prosecution. He would have deeper insights into how to restructure his business for greater efficiency. He wouldn’t have issues on how to hide the billions from the ransoms. As a governor, he would have several options. He could own a bank or banks, give loans and kidnap the loanee. He could own and license a bureau de change to legally handle his dollars and convert his government naira to euro and pound sterling. He could  even start selling dollars back to his victims who may need to pay ransom in hard currency. That is one very viable option. Governors do it with government funds. Or who do you think own many of these dollar-dealing companies around? Put a trusted ally in charge of the bureau and you win all the time. He could also build and stock a one-in-town shopping mall. Install a trusted soul in charge of the business and all dirty cash can then daily go in there, bear the stamp of that legit business and move into banks.

But because Evans lacked wisdom to diversify into government and politics, he is now begging for mercy. What mercy again? One victim paid you a ransom of N100 million and was still not released. Another was coldly told to hold a thanksgiving service for surviving a gunshot. You, the source of his affliction, assured him you would attend the event. After reading the several accounts of the victims, are we wrong to be surprised that the kingpin seeks pardon? At least that is what we have been reading in the last couple of days. It has been either he is burying his head in the Books of Job and Lamentations or he is weeping, seeking a second chance or the wife is pleading for pardon. Evans won’t be the first iron to melt after arrest. There was a very notorious armed robber in the mid 80s who almost became a legend. He would rob, throw some of his stolen funds at the people and vanish. He was invincible and enigmatic. His name sent shivers down the spines of even the best of security operatives. At a point, the then president, Ibrahim Babangida, had to publicly ask his Inspector General of Police: “My friend, where is Aninih?” Eventually, he was bursted and caught. He turned out to be a cowardly felon, fearful of death, begging for mercy. Why won’t these fellows think about the consequences of their actions? Or did they just assume that they wouldn’t ever get caught? Or they did not know that the wages of sin is damnation?

You can be evil for a very long time. Sometimes what nails the vampire may not even be the bloodiest of his actions. When the time is up, something just gives way. And it is because justice does not just stalk the evil doer, it catches up with him. Efunsetan Aniwura was the very rich 19th century Iyalode of Ibadan who was deposed on May 1, 1874. She was not exactly a criminal but she was wicked and lacking in mercy for her slaves. There is a play about her life written by Professor Akinwumi Ishola. There is a film too adapted from that book by Ishola Ogunsola (I-Show Pepper). In the book and the film, she is the totality of what a blood thirsty witch does to foul the community. She had to die because she was evil. That is her eternal reputation promoted actively through popular drama. The image of evil associated with her stuck like the leopard’s spots. Every wicked woman next door is an Efunsetan. But recorded history says she was killed not because she killed her pregnant slaves. She really did that routinely and society looked away. History says she had to die because she had become too big for her king to handle. Someone can be rich. Someone can become a chief and a person of means and power. But when riches increase and powers multiply, and the head swells and someone wears the babanriga of impunity, the end moves near. Even if you are the sovereign, the eyes of justice will soon be on you. The charges against Efunsetan were: That she didn’t accompany her sovereign, Aare Latoosa to that year’s war against Ado Ekiti; that she didn’t send supplies to her lord during the war; and, that she did not come in person to meet the Aare outside the town wall to congratulate him on the successful campaign. Those were the recorded reasons for her death now lost in the maze of perception across centuries. And what was the reaction of the rich, tough woman to the dawn of justice? She pleaded and pleaded for mercy and pardon. She paid out most of her riches to escape death. She was sober. Samuel Johnson said of her last moments: “The Iyalode spent miserable days and nights suspicious of every sound and movement. She changed her sleeping place from night to night as she could not trust any of her domestics. She prepared her food herself, could not go out of doors, received no visitors, as she did not know from what quarter the fatal blow would fall. At length, on the night of June 30, 1874, knowing where she slept, two slaves entered the room from the ceiling and dashed out her brains.” Her pleas, her riches, her safety measures could not save her. Nemesis always trumps such measures.

So, we plead with the Evanses and White Witches in our Government Houses to reduce the monthly ransoms they collect from us. We ask them for freedom for the kidnapped salaries and pensions. We urge them to remember that, like the Evans of Magodo, Lagos, their surveillance cameras will one day fail them; that an Abba Kyari will one day break their front doors; and that on that day, even though they read the Psalms, the Lord would not be their shepherd.

EVANS' WIFE IS A LIAR~~ WOMEN

That the notorious kidnapper Chukwudumeje Onuamadike a.k.a Evans had been nabbed by the police is no more news. However, ever since his arrest, one thing has been leading to the other. From his arrest to the multi-million naira mansion he lived in, to the discovery of his ‘den’, his family, to the #freeevans campaign on twitter.

Now it’s his wife begging for forgiveness on behalf of his family. She also claimed she did not know he is into such criminal activities. Meanwhile, Nigerians have been reacting to her claim, saying it’s unpalatable to the hearing. encomium.ng sought the opinion of married women on whether it is possible to be married to a man for more than ten years and not know the source of his income.

 Below are their responses:

Mrs. Fajemileyin Bunmi

She is not serious, does she think she can fool us? How could a married woman say she doesn’t know her husband’s job? For God’s sake, they’ve married for 14 years, it is not possible. Ordinary boyfriend and girlfriend cannot say they don’t know each other’s work, not to talk of marriage of 14 years.

I think from the beginning of Evans arrest, the Police would have arrested the wife too, because she knows about her husband’s job. She is just finding excuses, so that they will think she doesn’t know anything about it, which is a lie.

At least from what the husband said, he transferred money to her. She doesn’t live in Nigeria with five children and they are enjoying. I can’t just wait for her to be arrested. So that other women outside there can learn from it.

Mrs. Johnson

I don’t think she is telling the truth, because how would you be with a man for 14 years and you will not know anything about him. She is a bloody liar. Her husband built a big house like that and she can’t ask how, where and when he got his money. And I am sure she is a full housewife and your husband will be coming home with that kind of money and she can’t question him.

The woman is a bloody liar. She should also be arrested and she and her husband should face the court of law for their punishment.

Mrs. Ijaduade Kabirat
It is possible, because there are some women who don’t care about what a man is doing for a living, all they will care about is if the man has money and is taking good care of them. But what I think is that the man sent her and the children outside the country so that they will not know the type of job he is doing.

But the woman should not have come outside and be saying that kind of thing because it’s a shame for her and for her family.

Mrs. Lawrence

It only God that can know the truth because if we say she is lying and it is true, there is nothing we can do about that. Man can lie for a woman and the woman will not know but the only thing I think the woman did that is not good is that, she would have found out underground may be her husband is truly selling the spare parts he claimed to be selling and asked his family also. I think by that she would have known her husband’s work.
Akakomen Deborah

No, it’s impossible for a woman to be married for over ten years and not know the work her husband does. Though some men are so secretive, but as a woman, it’s mandatory you know his job and work place, so he won’t land you and your children in trouble.
Ezem Joy

The woman is a bloody liar and she should be apprehended. How shameless can a woman be, how will she claim she doesn’t know her husband’s work? She is a liar.
Owotutu Tosin

Let her come down to Nigeria to explain herself. We don’t expect her not to have something to cook up to free herself from the mess but we do not buy her claim. She is only trying to make people pity her and it won’t work.

Adewusi Margaret

That she didn’t know he was a kidnapper is a big lie. She didn’t know he had a lot of money yet they live in mansion worth millions. If he sells spare parts, doesn’t he have a shop?. The woman should be apprehended, she is a thief too and a disgrace to womanhood.

He stated that he vacated the den when people started suspecting his activities in the area. One of Evans’ dens … in Igando, Lagos.

He further disclosed that he rented the apartment in 2014 stating that he kept Francis Umeh for five months in that apartment before he moved to the other house in Ejigbo.

The kidnap kingpin also took detectives to a bungalow at Orisunmbare by hospital junction in Jakande estate, Lagos where he had another hideout.

Evans at one of the houses (Dens) in Igando Evans also stated that he contacted Colon Cancer while he was trafficking drugs.
He said he used to swallow wraps of cocaine and one of it got burst in his stomach. One of Evans houses (Dens) in Ejigbo ‘’I know I have done terrible things but I want to be forgiven. I also want to advise other criminals to turn a new leaf.
The Nigeria Police is not what it used to be. They are far more advanced than they were. If they could arrest me, there is no criminal they can’t arrest, “he stated.

PHOTOS:IGANDO HOUSE WHERE NOTORIOUS KIDNAPPER KEPT HIS VICTIMS

Chukwudumeje Onwuamadike, aka Evans, has been in the news for quite some time now because of his shocking kidnapping tales.
Recently released photos show the house where the billionaire kidnapper kept his victims. Located at No 21, Prophet Asaye Close, Igando, Lagos, the bungalow which has an inscription on the main gate that reads ''Jesus is Alive'',

It is the same house Donatus Dunu escaped from the night Evans and his gang members had planned to murder him. Located on the same street is a Foursquare Gospel Church and Celestial Church of Christ which is a few meters from the camp of the kidnappers.

In an interview with TheCable, a neighbour said:
“This is one of my houses; I live in the other house I have around this place. My tenants informed me on the day operatives of the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) came to this area,” he said.

“I learnt it was my house that the policemen first entered, thinking that was the place where the people were operating from. They broke some windows and shot into the air to scare people, but they were later directed to the place. That’s all I can say.”
Findings revealed that the owner of the fortress used by the dangerous group died three years ago. One of the neighbours of the deceased woman told TheCable that the tenant who rented the place after the demise of the landlady sublet it to Evans’ team.
“That was how these criminals brought trouble into an otherwise peaceful community. Only God knows the number of people that they had tortured in the house,” a slim young man who simply identified himself as pastor said.
Funsho Akomolafe, the owner of a provision store located at the entrance of Asaye street, also spoke to TheCable about the activities of two members of the gang and how a captive: Donatus Dunu, a pharmacist and owner of Maydon Pharmaceutical Company, Ilupeju, Lagos, helped the police to end the manhunt for Evans.
“We know only two occupants of that compound, and you won’t believe how they were friendly with people in this community,” Akomolafe opened up as he signalled a boy around to help him attend to one customer.

“I noticed that they had interest in politics. On a number of occasions, they have engaged me about the situation of the country. ‘People have been complaining about hardship under this government’, ‘Light is bad in this our area’. ‘This our area is very peaceful.’ Issues like these were what we discussed.

“One of them has a bald head. He was always on short knickers and Tshirt. He buys bags of sachet water from me, but there is a shop there where he buys fish. The owner of the shop said the least amount of dry fish he has bought from her is N5000.

“He greets me whenever he passes. Even if it’s 10 times that he walks past my shop, he would greet me. I never knew I was relating with a crook. Sometimes he would even tell me that he was going to get things on the next street. You won’t ever believe he could do such a thing. He jokes a lot. He would show me the gallon of petrol he bought from a filling station.
Akomolafe also spoke of how he had the cause to visit the stronghold of Evans some three months  back.
“The water in this area is very bad, but there are places where one can get good water. Sometime in March, the owner of one of the buildings beside their camp asked me to help her get someone that could dig a borehole. I was able to help her get a professional and they negotiated. After the negotiation, the person handling the project said he would need to inspect the house where the gang was operating from before he could dig the borehole.
“So, on this particular day, we went to the house and knocked for over 20 minutes before the gate was opened. When the gate was opened, the person handling the project just inspected the side of the house and said he could dig the borehole because there was no soak away on that side. Immediately we left, they closed the gate but we didn’t suspect anything.”

VIDEO: "NO MESSAGE FOR MY KIDS"~~EVANS

I collapsed and later called my kids to inform them what I just read about their father.   Since then, I have not eaten, I am still in shock. Our children could not believe what they were reading about their father.

My children were crying when they saw his bloody eyes and swollen face.   Our condition was worsened when I saw my picture with him and our children on the face book.   I don’t know where they got it.
