PHOTOS:IGANDO HOUSE WHERE NOTORIOUS KIDNAPPER KEPT HIS VICTIMS

Chukwudumeje Onwuamadike, aka Evans, has been in the news for quite some time now because of his shocking kidnapping tales.
Recently released photos show the house where the billionaire kidnapper kept his victims. Located at No 21, Prophet Asaye Close, Igando, Lagos, the bungalow which has an inscription on the main gate that reads ''Jesus is Alive'',

It is the same house Donatus Dunu escaped from the night Evans and his gang members had planned to murder him. Located on the same street is a Foursquare Gospel Church and Celestial Church of Christ which is a few meters from the camp of the kidnappers.

In an interview with TheCable, a neighbour said:
“This is one of my houses; I live in the other house I have around this place. My tenants informed me on the day operatives of the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) came to this area,” he said.

“I learnt it was my house that the policemen first entered, thinking that was the place where the people were operating from. They broke some windows and shot into the air to scare people, but they were later directed to the place. That’s all I can say.”
Findings revealed that the owner of the fortress used by the dangerous group died three years ago. One of the neighbours of the deceased woman told TheCable that the tenant who rented the place after the demise of the landlady sublet it to Evans’ team.
“That was how these criminals brought trouble into an otherwise peaceful community. Only God knows the number of people that they had tortured in the house,” a slim young man who simply identified himself as pastor said.
Funsho Akomolafe, the owner of a provision store located at the entrance of Asaye street, also spoke to TheCable about the activities of two members of the gang and how a captive: Donatus Dunu, a pharmacist and owner of Maydon Pharmaceutical Company, Ilupeju, Lagos, helped the police to end the manhunt for Evans.
“We know only two occupants of that compound, and you won’t believe how they were friendly with people in this community,” Akomolafe opened up as he signalled a boy around to help him attend to one customer.

“I noticed that they had interest in politics. On a number of occasions, they have engaged me about the situation of the country. ‘People have been complaining about hardship under this government’, ‘Light is bad in this our area’. ‘This our area is very peaceful.’ Issues like these were what we discussed.

“One of them has a bald head. He was always on short knickers and Tshirt. He buys bags of sachet water from me, but there is a shop there where he buys fish. The owner of the shop said the least amount of dry fish he has bought from her is N5000.

“He greets me whenever he passes. Even if it’s 10 times that he walks past my shop, he would greet me. I never knew I was relating with a crook. Sometimes he would even tell me that he was going to get things on the next street. You won’t ever believe he could do such a thing. He jokes a lot. He would show me the gallon of petrol he bought from a filling station.
Akomolafe also spoke of how he had the cause to visit the stronghold of Evans some three months  back.
“The water in this area is very bad, but there are places where one can get good water. Sometime in March, the owner of one of the buildings beside their camp asked me to help her get someone that could dig a borehole. I was able to help her get a professional and they negotiated. After the negotiation, the person handling the project said he would need to inspect the house where the gang was operating from before he could dig the borehole.
“So, on this particular day, we went to the house and knocked for over 20 minutes before the gate was opened. When the gate was opened, the person handling the project just inspected the side of the house and said he could dig the borehole because there was no soak away on that side. Immediately we left, they closed the gate but we didn’t suspect anything.”

INSIDE STORY OF LAST ABDUCTION THAT NAILED EVANS

For seven years, dare-devil kidnapper, Chukwudemeje George Onwamadike aka Evans, escaped the police dragnet and justice.

His reign, however, came to an end last Saturday, after a police special squad led by Abba Kyari, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), arrested him at his No 3, Fred Shoboyede Street, Magodo, Lagos home, after a fierce gun battle which lasted several hours.

Details of the last abduction carried out by his gang on February 14 this year that paved way for his demystification and subsequent arrest has emerged.

Read below as narrated by TheNationonline:

On that day, which coincidentally was celebrated all over the world as St. Valentine’s Day otherwise known as lovers day, a pharmacist and the owner of Maydon Pharmaceutical Company, Ilupeju, Lagos, Mr. Donatus Dunu, was abducted by Evans’ gang.

Dunu had barely left his office in the evening when he was blocked by a vehicle. Before he knew it, Evans’ gun-wielding men had stepped out of the vehicle and bundled the pharmacist into their vehicle and sped off to No 21, Prophet Asaye Close, New Igando, a Lagos suburb where he was kept for three months.

Evans subsequently demanded the payment of a sum of one million euros as ransom. Despite efforts to make Evans see reason and reduce the money, he would have none of it, even after a sum of N100 million had been paid to him. It was either the money was paid or Dunu paid with his life.
While looking for the money, Dunu’s wife, who is also a director of the company, staff members organized prayers for the safe return of their boss. One of the workers said:

“We did not only pray but engaged in fasting too. Who will not pray and fast if his or her boss was in such condition? It was really traumatic for us.”

Unknown to Dunu’s wife and his workers, the person who gave the information leading to Dunu’s abduction was one of the staff members of the company, identified as Emeka, who was employed about five years ago.

At the gang’s den in New Igando, where Dunu was kept, he had given up hope on the possibility of regaining his freedom.

But he had a big break in the early hours of Friday, May 12, 2017, while his captors were deep in sleep. Despite losing his weight, Dunu managed to wriggle out of the leg-cuff he was held with. He was only wearing a pair of short and white singlet. A perimeter fence with broken bottles was to become a major obstacle to his escape, but the victim used his bare hand to manoeuvre the shattered bottles and climbed his way to freedom.

It was learnt that when he landed into an adjoining building, he was mistaken for a fleeing robber or cultist. Security guards raised the alarm which attracted neighbours to the scene and it was providence that saved him from being lynched by a mob.

One of the security guards who asked not to be named said:

“I just came to my duty post that day when I started hearing the shout of ‘thief! Thief!’ I came out and saw this fair-complexioned man running towards me. I stopped him near that mini- tanker (he pointed at a decrepit stationary tanker).

He was wearing only his boxer with his white singlet placed on his shoulder. There was fear in his eyes and he looked sick and traumatised. His body was blood-stained and there were injuries on his legs probably because he had been cuffed on his legs for a long time.

“Some people were unwilling to listen to him and they wanted to take him away. I said no, they should leave him here and instead call the elders of the community.

I took him to the front of that Foursquare Church and told him to sit at the entrance of the church. I then asked how much the kidnappers were demanding from him and how much he had paid and he said they were demanding N500m and he had paid about N100m. I was shocked.

We then took him to the Igando Divisional Police Station. Later that afternoon, the operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) returned with him to the street, but he was so tired and sick; he did not even come out of the vehicle. They broke into the compound but the kidnappers had escaped. So many things were discovered in the compound, including guns, a white bus and a power bike. I had never seen any power bike on this street before then.”

Abductors’ den

Number 21 Prophet Asaye Close, where Dunu was kept, is at the end of a close facing the entrance to the street. The compound has only a single bungalow. The compound is covered with interlocking stones. It is a study in irony.

Carved on the gate is the sentence ‘Jesus is Alive.’ There is a doorbell on the left side of the gate. Observing the building closely, it is easy to see why the kidnappers settled for it.

It is a single bungalow, so no noisy neighbour or neighbours to snoop into their business. It has coconut trees at the back, but there were no high rise buildings from where anybody could monitor what they were doing.

Asked about the activities in the compound, our source said:

“They (abductors) kept to themselves. The guy there, whenever he was driving in from outside, the gate would have been opened before he got to the gate. In addition, loud music was always wafting from the bungalow. This always muffled every noise coming from there. This happened mostly in the day time. In the night, of course, the generating set would take over. So, we (neighbours) could never have known what went on there”.

With the escape of Dunu, he was able to make useful statements to the police about his kidnap. The next day, May 13, SARS operatives in four patrol vans stormed Franzaki Street, Bucknor Estate, off Isheri Osun Road.

It was the rented home of one of the workers of Maydon Pharmaceutical, identified as Emeka, a pharmacist. He is from Oguta, Imo State, and in his late 30s or early 40’s; he has a wife and a child, according to the residents, who were rattled by the early morning raid.

Emeka was whisked away from his house by the police. Since then, the residents said he has not returned.

It was on the basis of this breakthrough that the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, four days after Emeka’s arrest on May 16 declared a certain faceless Evans wanted. He said:

“We are encouraging Nigerians to blow the whistle on this kidnapper. Whoever blows the whistle will get N30 million rewards as stated by the Inspector General of Police…Evans has been on the wanted list of the Police in Anambra, Edo and Lagos states for years. The suspects arrested have given us valuable information, which the command is working on to ensure that he is apprehended by all means.”

Operatives of the Inspector General of Police’s anti-kidnapping team went into action and with the aid of high tech equipment, they were able to track key members of the kidnap syndicate, rounded them up and then set the stage for the final arrest of Evans. This came last Saturday when Evans was demystified by the police.

At the headquarters of Maydon Pharmaceutical Company Limited at 15 Wilmer Street, Ilupeju, Lagos, the atmosphere was subdued. The workers discussed in low tone. There were several innuendoes about a certain Emeka from Oguta. Both Mr. Donatus Dunu, the chairman of the company, and his wife, the managing director, were not on seat.

However, one of the male workers said they had been warned not to discuss their boss’ harrowing experience with pressmen and that it was only the boss or his wife that can speak on the matter.

Pressed further, he described his boss’ escape as miraculous. When shown the picture of the compound where Dunu was kept with the inscription ‘Jesus is alive’, he exclaimed ‘indeed, Jesus is alive!’

UPDATE: EVANS MOST TRUSTED GIRLFRIENDS LURED HIM TO HIS ARREST

More facts emerged, yesterday, about the circumstances that led to the location of the residence of the kidnap kingpin leading to his arrest, last Saturday.

Sources attributed it to an informant residing in Magodo and intelligence reports that revealed identities of his three girlfriends, identified as Amaka, Ijeoma  and Ngozi.
It was gathered that after the Inspector-General of police deployed his Intelligence Response Team to track the notorious kingpin, they made huge progress from the documents recovered from his hideout in Igando, Lagos after the miraculous disappearance of his last victim.

According to source, the leader of IGP’s team, Abba Kyari, who was tracking their locations had planned to round-up all the suspects,  in one swoop, but his plans failed as Evans was always changing locations, making it difficult to get his exact location.

The source who spoke with Vanguard on the condition of anonymity disclosed that, while Kyari was searching for Evans, and has also mobilized some residents of Magodo Estate, giving them clear descriptions of Evans, his vehicles and the name of his security man, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, also announced a bounty of N30million on information that could lead to the arrest of Evans.

The operatives were said to have discovered that Evans was very close to Amaka and he rented an apartment for her in Okota area of Lagos State. Sources explained that Evans was fond of sleeping in Amaka’s house on a regular basis and they decided to use Amaka to lure him. .

However, one of the police informants in Magodo made a breakthrough as  the IRT were banking on Amaka, and he called and informed the police that he has located Evans apartment.

He also disclosed that Evans has not been seen around his house for a long time and he was believed to have moved out of his house. Our source revealed that,  Evans was highly elusive at this time and he was quite aware that the police were closing in on him and he moved away from his home and relocated to a hotel in Agidigingbi area of Ikeja adding that he also moved his wife and children to Ghana and was trying to dispose some of his properties at the time he was arrested.

The final straw On the day he was arrested, according to sources, he was said to be unaware that operatives had located his apartment in Magodo, when he contacted Amaka on Saturday morning.

“He was said to have called her on the phone around 4:15am, without knowing that some policemen were with her and asked her to wait outside her compound to meet him.
She reportedly joined him later at the spot and as soon as she got into the car, he attacked her, threatening to kill her for not informing him about the police presence in her house.
Evans was said to have gotten angry and drove away with her in his Grand Cherokee SUV and they had an accident at Iyana-Ipaja area where he abandoned the vehicle, seized Amaka’s phone and asked her to go home.  It was from there that he picked a cab to his residence at Magodo to pick some few things towards travelling out of the country. After then, we swooped on him and arrested him inside his bedroom.”

"I WAS ARRESTED ALONG WITH MY WIFE THIS YEAR IN LAGOS BUT REGAINED FREEDOM THROUGH POWER OF MONEY" ~~EVANS

More details have emerged as kidnapper, Evans, father of five who is known for not negotiating his ransom also said he had already relocated his wife and children from Ghana to Canada.
He said

My mum has never been to my house. She knows I'm into crime but never supports me.
It all started in the year 2000 when I fled my home town in Opi, Nsukka Local Government of Enugu State to Lagos after stabbing my fiancee when she decided not to marry me

‘I started in Anambra state during the tenure of Peter Obi as the governor of the state when a hunch man introduced me to kidnapping’,

We were later forced to leave Anambra state and moved to Edo later Lagos. I had boys
‘I had boys from Warri, Delta state who worked for me. The first job I got in Lagos was at Johnbulls Ikoyi as a driver to the CEO. One day we were going to his office and my boss said that he wanted to visit a friend. The moment he stepped into his friend’s house, I took the sum of N350,000 he had in the car and ran away to Ghana’ he continued.

I later returned to Nigeria after few months and avoided Ikoyi where my ex-boss office is situated. I then got a new job as a driver in the fashion I did before. I also stole N600,000 and eloped to Ghana again.

I returned to Lagos in 2000 and used my old method to secure another job as a driver at the home of the first family I kidnapped their daughter. When I realised that they are very rich and loved their daughter deeply. I took the girl to Ghana from where I demanded a ransom of only N20m but the girl’s father paid N22m instead. I then freed the girl in Ghana.

Once I got this money, I ventured into an extravagant lifestyle and bought a house in Ghana. Then, I bought over five exotic cars and a truck. I began to show prominently in social functions where people hailed the way I was spending money.

I spent over N2m on orphanages and local primary schools in Ghana. The Deputy Nigeria Ambassador to Ghana and other prominent Nigerians were also in attendance at the handing over ceremony of my donations.

Early this year, I was arrested along with my wife, in Lagos. We were brought to the court but we later regained our freedom due to the power of my money and connections.
I have to admit, I have done wrong and I have caused pains to several families but I want to live and pay for my evil crimes.

I heard several stories about SARS and their operations but I never thought that I would one day be brought here for reckoning.

“I am just asking for another chance, I am sorry for my action, I will become a Christian, if only I have another chance. I cannot remember the number of people I have kidnapped so far. I took part in high profile kidnappings in Edo State where I got N10million as my share.”

JUDAS ISCARIOT! EMPLOYEE KIDNAPPED HIS BOSS FOR 1MILLION EUROS

The story of  Pharmacist Emeka Egbulugha, the Superintendent Pharmacist, of Maydon Pharmaceuticals aptly played out the famous biblical account of how Judas Iscariot, a disciple of Jesus Christ betrayed his master to the enemies for thirty pieces of silver.

When the news of the kidnap of Mr. Donatus Dunu, managing director of Maydon Pharmaceuticals broke on February 14, 2017, no one initially had clues to his whereabouts, not even his family members, until the abductors contacted them, and demanded a ransom of one million Euro (N500 million) for his release

As the days were turning into weeks and weeks became months with the kidnappers not ready to let go of their victim, the relatives of Dunu, made part payment of the ransom, amounting to about N150 million according to reports, upon which they failed to release him.

Little did anyone know that Egbulugha, a native of Oguta, in Imo State, who was in the employ of Dunu, until his arrest by the police could be allegedly involved in such criminal act, as the victim narrated his ordeal in the hands of the terrible kidnap gang and how he had heard the voice of his employee, at different times discussing with his abductors while in their net.

According to the police source, “the victim said that a few days after he was abducted, he overheard the voice of pharmacist Emeka, who has been under his employ for long, discussing with his abductors in an adjoining room. He said he heard him asking members of the gang keeping watch over him whether they had contacted members of his family”.

“A few days before his escape, the victim said Emeka came and reassured them that he had signed all the documents for the release of goods worth about N7 million from his warehouse and also came the next Thursday to boldly question why they had not killed him as agreed.“He reportedly left after he was assured that they would carry out the killing by the following day, Friday”.  At this stage, the victim said he gave up hope of freedom.

“However, by early hours of Friday, he was able to unchain himself while his captors were deeply asleep with their guns and escaped through the back door, landing at the next compound, where a security guard jumped at him and branded him a thief.  He said that after narrating his story to the guard, he told him to wait but he did not see him again after waiting for a long time.”

Although he almost ran out of luck by falling into the hands of passersby who misconstrued him for a thief, but after some explanations, they assisted him to the Igando police station.

When Pharmanewsonline.com pulled a call through to Mrs Lilian Dunu, the wife of the victim, she acknowledged that Egbulugha had worked for some years with the company, but that he seldom attended the morning prayers made for her husband’s release all through the time he was in kidnappers’ den, as the pharmacist often resume late to work.

Mrs Dunu, who admitted that the family paid a huge ransom to the abductors, said she wasn’t sure of the exact amount paid, but that it was not in naira.

She was however indeed grateful to God for the double blessings she has just experienced- her husband’s miraculous escape and the discharge of her son who had been hospitalised for about a week over an illness.

The visit of Pharmanewsonline.com to the pharmaceutical company at Ilupeju, Surulere, Lagos, yielded further revelations into the story, as some senior colleagues of Egbulugha opened up on how he has been unnecessarily generous to some ladies in the company.

His colleagues who spoke to us in confidence, said they had been doubting his sources of income for a while, as he was fond of doling out money to every Dick, Tom, and Harry, who cares to ask him for lunch, whereas they could not afford such charitable gestures, even with their salaries higher than his.

Since pharmacists are known to be men of honour, it was imperative for us to investigate the authenticity of Emeka’s claim of being a pharmacist. When the Registrar of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) Pharm. Elijah Mohammed was contacted for the verification of Emeka as a pharmacist, his answer was in the affirmative, but was disappointed at his alleged involvement in the present case of his boss.

“It is unfortunate he is allegedly involved in such act, but before now, we have never had any negative report about him”, he remarked
