PHOTOS: KOGI YOUTHS REJECTS RICE DONATED BY SENATORS

Kogi youths have rejected the bags of rice donated by senators to the unpaid workers in the state civil service. The youths numbering over a hundred, barricaded some streets in the state and asked that the bags of rice which were donated by Senator Dino Melaye, should be returned as the people of the state are not Internally Displaced Persons.

Recall that on Wednesday, Dino drew the attention of members of the Senate to the plight of the unpaid workers in the state that have not been paid for 16-20 months.

The senators donated as many as 1300 bags of rice to workers in the state. Dino was to deliver the items to the state NLC chapter to disperse but the youths asked that the bags of rice be returned. See more photos of the protesting youths below.

5 ARRESTED OVER KIDNAPPING OF KOGI'S MOTHER

The police have arrested five suspects in connection with the kidnapping of the mother of the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, in 2014.

Hajia Hawawu Bello, 80, was kidnapped in Uvete, Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi on May 29, 2014.

The suspects are a former councillor in Okene Local Government Council, Iliyasu Suleiman, 44; the gang leader, Danjuma Ibrahim, 26; Iliyasu Obadaki, 35; Alhaji Nasiru, 43; and Hafiz Yakubu.


The police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, who paraded the suspects on Tuesday in Abuja, said items recovered from them included two AK47 rifles; 20 live cartridges; one army camouflage inner wear; two pairs of army camouflage trousers , two army camouflage caps , one black Beretta; two plastic guns; three knives and one axe.

Moshood said all the suspects had confessed to the kidnapping of the governor’s mother and some robbery operations in Abuja, Kogi and Niger.

He said efforts were being intensified to arrest the fleeing members of the gang while the suspects would be charged to court on completion of investigation.

The former LG councilor, Suleiman, said he was involved in the kidnapping, adding that he received a Peugeot 406 car from the gang leader, Ibrahim.

Another suspect, Obadaki, said he was given N.2m from the undisclosed ransom that was collected before their victim was released.

An angry crowd chanting ‘Dino, Ole’ welcomed Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West Senatorial District and his convoy as he arrived Kabba in Kogi state today.
"Ole" is a Yoruba word used to describe a thief. See how an angry crowd who had gathered after learning the Senator was in town kept on chanting ‘Dino, Ole’ as the senator passed by.

PHOTO: MAN STABS WIFE TO DEATH OVER 'CHOP MONEY' IN KOGI STATE

Abdullahi Garba, 30,pictured above, stabbed his wife, Falilat Saka Garba, to death following a disagreement over feeding allowance. The deceased had asked for N4000 feeding allowance but the suspect said he offered her only N2000 which was the only money he had.

 He instructed her to return N500 to him but she then picked up a quarrel with him. In the process, she slapped him and in retaliation, he picked up a knife and stabbed her in the stomach. He is in police custody in Kogi.

TWO MEN ARRESTED FOR ABDUCTING CHIEF IMAM IN KOGI STATE

Operatives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Intelligence Response Team (IRT),have arrested two suspected members of a kidnap gang in Kogi State .

Suleiman Isah (24) and Musa Mohammed (31), both natives of Ankpa, were arrested on May 29 at Ninth Mile, Enugu State, and Ayinba in Kogi. .

They were said to be among the criminals who kidnapped an Islamic Scholar, Alhaji Jibrin Idris, on February 21. The suspects allegedly confessed to be four in the gang, giving the names of others as Bashir and Mangal. The police said efforts are on to arrest the two members at large.
