KASHIM SHETTIMA ON BOKO HARAM: MAKE A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL

The governor of Nigeria’s Borno State, Kashim Shettima  on Thursday while answering question about  the where  about of 300 schoolgirls  that were kidnapped, told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour  that the government should negotiate with Boko Haram – make a deal “with the devil” – if it means bringing the girls back.

“The issue of not negotiation, of not negotiating with the terrorists – it’s out of the question,” Kashim Shettima said. “If it means talking to the devil, it means the devil can come down, we can get back our girls.”

Shettima who described Boko Haram group as “a bunch of raving lunatics,” also dropped bombshell that the Federal government were playing politics with  the lives of 300 Nigerians girls , looking for  scapegoats instead of acting in time.

However, a month has passed since the girls were kidnapped, and the Nigerian government has been accused of not acting swiftly or efficiently enough to protect villages in the region threatened by Boko Haram.

Sharon Ikeazor, a member of Nigeria’s opposition, told Amanpour that “most of the girls in school had their cell phones” when they were kidnapped, and that some of them actually ‘contacted their parents,” That is to say , “ they knew when the attack was happening, and the villagers around had reported to the military.”She added that ‘the government could have saved those girls’’

Whatever be the case, we urge the Jonathan government to bring back our girls. Period.

A SUDANESE NATIONAL ARRESTED IN LAGOS FOR ALLEGEDLY PLANTING BOMBS

A Sudanese national identified as Kareem Saidi was on Thursday arrested in Lagos for allegedly planting bombs to unleash massive terror in Lagos State.

According to OluFamous.Com , 'witnesses said the grenades planted in front of the Union Homes Company gate along Nnamdi Azikwe road, Tom Jones area, opposite Access Bank branch and LSDPC house was discovered by one of the Police Mobile security man attached to the area.’

From what we gathered, It was also learnt that ‘the observant police officer became suspicious of a man who earlier came in a Jeep and started distributing N1,000 notes to beggars, and later asked them to vacate the area before he drove off.’

As the residents increasingly become uncomfortable with insecurity and predictions of bomb attacks, the security operatives revealed that the bombs found in Lagos have been programmed to explode around 1pm when passengers throng LAGBUS terminals to board buses to their respective destinations.

However, three substances suspected to be bomb explosives were discovered in the heart of Lagos Island in the early hours of Thursday by the Police. The three explosives were immediately taken away by the Police bomb squad from Ikeja Police command, according to Leadership.

FOUR RUNS-GIRL CHARGED TO COURT IN LAGOS FOR FIGHTING PUBLICLY OVER CUSTOMER

I cannot laugh alone; the simple reason is that our police are now monitoring runs-girl on the street. According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), four sex workers namely: Joy Morkoha, 37; Blessing Ugbo, 26; Tayo Folarin, 35, and Tina Osakwe, 25, who allegedly fought publicly over a customer, on Friday, appeared before an Itire Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The police charged the sex workers with affray and breach of public peace.  Police Inspector Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 14, at a hotel on Shobowale Street, Ilasa, Mushin, Lagos, and that the offences contravened the Sections 54 and 166 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty. The Magistrate, Mrs Abegunde Davis, admitted them to bail in the sum of N30, 000 with one surety each and adjourned the case till June 16 for substantive trial.

MUTINY IN MAIDUGURI: A CASE OF BAD LEADERSHIP

Merriam-webster dictionary, defined  mutiny as: a situation in which a group of people (such as sailors or soldiers) refuse to obey orders and try to take control away from the person who commands them. That was exactly what happened between the solders of 7 Division, Nigerian Army, and their General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Ahmadu Mohammed, yesterday n Maiduguri.

In my earlier blog’ NIGERIA ARMY NOT YET PEOPLES’ ARMY, i made an observation about our army that ‘‘it was formed in 1863 to attack Nigerian people as an instrument of colonial power''.....hence, this is an organisation conceived and born to oppress and brutalize the people of Nigeria’. And that ‘‘Nigerian Army'' is a Gestapo that meant to humiliate, oppress, cage, suppress and brutalize the ''Bloody Civilians’ ‘and make them a 'Yes sir ‘people.’’

Hence, they are not trained to deal with internal insurgence like Boko Haram that is well equipped with modern weapon. As one soldier put it, “We the soldiers don’t have the kind of arms and ammunition that [Boko Haram] fighters have. So every day, they kill our men anyhow, but it is never published in the media" The commanding officers “are too busy ‘eating’ money.

Based on the above, it is crystal clear that our soldiers mutinied because they are ill-equipped, poorly motivated, and not adequately informed about the course they are fighting for. How does one expect soldiers to fight gallantly under such terrible condition?

According to the source: “The troops arrived with the corpses of the slain soldiers to Maimalari barracks while the GOC was addressing some troops on the ongoing operation against the insurgency. But when the soldiers sighted the corpses of their deceased colleagues, and learnt about how they died, they condemned the way their superior officers allegedly treated them in the course of the operation, and therefore started shooting sporadically, while others opened fire on the GOC’s vehicle as he narrowly escaped from the scene”.

According to the source, “what angered the soldiers most, was the unnecessary deduction of their allowances and subjecting them to harsh working conditions without proper equipment to carry out their duties and as a result, many of them were being killed like rats by the insurgents”.
What really bothered me was the response of Major General Chris Olukolade the Defence spokesman, who described the mutiny as ‘’ an internal affair which has since been resolved”.

However, in a statement issued  and signed by Major General Chris Olukolade  later yesterday said: “The 7 Division of the Nigerian Army is to institute a military board of inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the conduct of soldiers who fired some shots today (yesterday) while the General Officer Commanding was addressing troops in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri’’

One a last note, ‘certainly, mutiny is the last we expect at this trying moment of putting the insurgency in check and rescuing the abducted schoolgirls’ God blesses Nigeria.

GHANA: 'NUMERO UNO' COUNTRY TO LIVE IN AFRICA

Ghana is located on the Gulf of Guinea, only a few degrees north of the Equator, therefore giving it a warm climate. Ghana spans an area of 238,535 km (92,099 sq mi), and has an Atlantic coastline that stretches 560 kilometres (350 miles) on the Gulf of Guinea in Atlantic Ocean to its south. lies between latitudes  and 12°N, and longitudes 4°W and 2°E; and the Prime Meridian passes through Ghana, specifically through the industrial port of Tema. Ghana is geographically closer to the "centre" of the world than any other country in the world.

Republic of Ghana ,first African nation to declare independence from European colonization  in 1957, is a multinational state and unitary presidential constitutional republic

This made Ghana the symbol of Black achievement, helped to inspire other African nations to seek independence, one of the most stable and developed countries in Africa, Ghana's economy is among the largest on the continent and one of the growing in the world. It is a significant  petroleum and natural producer, one of the world's largest gold and diamond producers, and the second largest producer of cocoa in the world. Ghana is home to Lake Volta, the largest artificial lake in the world by surface area.

Ghana is Africa’s fastest growing economy and has developed a remarkable degree of stability. The West African nation’s growth rates exceed 10 percent in 2012, and it’s projected to remain relatively high for the next few years. The government of Ghana has been demonstrating a commitment to investing proceeds into the country’s social and physical infrastructure, increasing the overall livability in the nation.

Ghana’s capital city, Accra, is a sophisticated urban area, with a full range of restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and increasingly, shopping malls. There are many affluent areas, including East Legon the location of the city’s only traditional shopping complex, Accra Mall.

Another popular option is Osu, locally referred to as “Oxford Street,” where many go to shop and hang out. The downtown area has seen much development over the last decade and the range of serviced high-rise apartments makes it an easy location to set up home quickly.
In addition to being a wonderful urban home for roughly 20 percent of Ghana’s 20 million total population,

Accra has become the leisure destination of choice for affluent Nigerians, who take a quick 45-minute flight to spend time at their Accra weekend homes. The warmth of the Ghanaian people is an asset and is an important part of what draws visitors to return to spend leisure time here. The tropical climate is also a plus.

WOMEN'S EXISTENCE ARE UN-ISLAMIC...COUNCIL OF ISLAMIC IDEOLOGY

The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) arose on Thursday from their 192nd meeting with the ruling that women are un-Islamic and that their mere existence contradicted Sharia and the will of Allah.
Maulana Muhammad Khan Shirani, CII Chairman noted that women by existing defied the laws of nature, and to protect Islam and the Sharia, women should be forced to stop existing as soon as possible. It would be recalled that the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) had announced after CII’s 191st meeting, that the laws related to minimum marriage age to be un-Islamic.
Shirani explained that there were actually two kinds of women – haraam and makrooh. “We can divide all women in the world into two distinct categories: those who are haraam and those who are makroohis. Now the difference between haraam and makroohis that the former is categorically forbidden while the latter is really really disliked.”
The Chairman went further to explain that “Any woman that exercises her will is haraam, absolutely haraam, and is conspiring against Islam and the Ummah, whereas those women who are totally subservient can reach the status of being makrooh. Such is the generosity of our ideology and such is the endeavour of Muslim men like us who are the true torchbearers of gender equality,”
The council members also deliberated over various historic references related to women and concluded that each woman is a source of fitna and a perpetual enemy of Islam.
They concluded that by restricting them to their subordinate, bordering on slave status, the momineen and the mujahideen can ensure that Islam continues to be the religion of peace, prosperity and gender equality.
The official of Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) said: “We don’t believe in western ideals, and nothing that contradicts Islam should ever be paid heed. In any case by giving women the higher status of being makrooh, it’s us Muslims who have paved the way for true, Sharia compliant feminism,”
In his conclusion, Maulana Muhammad Khan Shirani, said “Whether a woman  is allowed to breathe or not be left up to her husband or male guardian, and no woman under any circumstance whatsoever should be allowed to decide whether she can breathe or not.”
