HOW WE KILLED OUR YOUTH LEADER ...SUSPECT

Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Rivers State Police Command, has arrested one Emmanuel Jeremiah, 22, who is reported to be a member of Dey Bam cult in Ebubu community, had been at large since the killing of the youth leader, William Adantha Samora, in 2013. His other cult members whose names were given as Asegoo, Nnanna, Parass, Sky Bee, Slim Body, Philip and Mba, led by a young man, simply called Mopol, were arrested after the incident and charged to Magistrates’ Court 2, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. They had since been remanded in prison custody.

Reports' findings revealed that Jeremiah and his cult group members were at a burial ceremony in their community called Ebubu on the fateful day when the deceased, who was also the vice president of youths in the community, hit one Ogoni boy, a member of Dey Bam cult group, with his vehicle.

The Dey Bam cult group members were said to have been upset at the death of one of them and had held an emergency meeting where it was decide that they would deal with the vice president that very night. The Vice President of Youth allegedly belonged to the Iceland cult group.

At about 10 p.m. same day, after the meeting, it was learnt, the Dey Bam cult members proceeded to Samora’s house where they met him eating. After surrounding his house, one of the cult members shot the youth leader in the head through the window. Immediately, after the shooting, they rushed into his house and inflicted machete cuts on him. A police source informed Crime Reports that Jeremiah was with a machete on the fateful day and was believed to have inflicted the machete cuts on the deceased.

Jeremiah opened up on his involvement in the case:  “I joined Dey Bam cult in 2005. I was just 12 years old. I was lured into joining the cult. I went to my community to spend holiday, not knowing that some of the young boys were making plans to make me join their cult group. They told me they liked me and wanted to be my friends. They said I should come close to them but I refused. They noticed that I distanced myself from them and threatened me.

“They later used a friend of mine, Branson, to lure me to a party. Branson is also known as Papa. Before I knew what was happening, they had brought out knives, axes and guns and threatened to kill me if I did not cooperate with them, saying that nobody would know my whereabouts.

“They asked me to pull off my clothes, except my boxers. They blindfolded me and asked me to lie down. They started beating me, shot at the ground and also broke bottle on the ground. They did incantations and poured libation. That was how I became a member.

“After this, I did not move very close to them because my father was a strict and disciplined man.”

Giving an account of what happened the day the vice president was killed, Jeremiah said: “When Samora made his intention known that he wanted to lead the youths in Ebube community to curb the problem that existed, youths supported him, irrespective of the cult group they belonged to, though he was a known Iceland man.

“But to our surprise, he started being partial. Anytime his cult members came to the community to foment trouble, he would keep mum and would not caution them. If it was any other group, he would inform the police and those caught would be charged to court and sent to prison.

“On the day of the incident, we were at a burial. The deceased belonged to us because she was grandmother to one of our members.  We were there celebrating when we saw that people started running. While we wondered what was happening, we saw Samora’s group approaching our gathering. We learnt that one of our invited guests was hit by the vice president and he died. That was how the celebration was brought to an abrupt end as everyone fled.

“Knowing that there was likely to be a reprisal, Samora’s men started shooting sporadically that we had to retreat so that none of us would be hit. My own cult group led by Mopol held a meeting and we decided to invade Samora’s house.

“We went there at about 10 a.m., and met him eating with one of his friends. One of us shot him. Though I had a cutlass, I was not bold enough to use it on him, so someone did the job until we saw that he was dead. His friend was also hit by bullet and he died too.

“After Samora’s death, his group came out and started looking for those who killed their leader. They killed three people, including one native doctor, whom they accused of doing juju for Dey Bam members, and two others. I ran to my uncle’s place in Enugu State to escape the group’s wrath. I came back to Ebubu in December, 2014 and I was arrested.”

Jeremiah revealed that he fell out of favour with his father because of the wife he married after his mother’s death. “The woman started maltreating me and my sister and my father used to listen to whatever she told him.

“I ran away but later returned. The woman did not accept me back and my father also joined her by calling my mother a witch, saying he didn’t know why he married my mother. That was why I sought solace among my friends.”

The suspect also admitted taking marijuana but said “e no too tey” (it was just a short while back).

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer in Rivers State, Muhammadu Ahmad, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of investigation.

I HAVE AT LEAST 60 REASONS WHY I WILL NOT VOTE FOR JONATHAN.....SOYINKA

Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka has, said that he never endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for re-election, saying he has 60 reasons why he will not vote for the continuation of this regime.
Soyinka urged Nigerians to search their conscience and be objective before casting their votes for any of the candidates.

Professor Soyinka said: ‘’It is impossible to talk of today’s election without thinking of what happened to your colleagues, your siblings, your peers in the village called Chibok. It is not possible to think of the future of this nation in the sense of responsibility without that albatross called Chibok. Coming to the fore of our contemplation, I think that why I was being killed on the internet is probably because of this very event because those who began to advertise my death on the internet probably know already what I stand for over the election which is also why all kinds of statements have been made.’’

Soyinka said ‘’I have never spoken a word about this election so anything which you read on the internet as interviews or recent statements is not mine. Don’t believe it. The reason is this, they advertised on the internet that I am dead, so why should you believe it?’’
He continued: ‘’I have at least 60 reasons for not voting for the continuation of this present government and those reasons are here.

Addressing the students from various schools across the country, Soyinka said; Why I will not vote for this government or encourage anybody to vote for the continuation of this present government is simply because your colleagues, numbering over 200 were kidnapped; we sent them on a mission – education, enlightenment, examination, to rub minds with their peers and they disappeared and the government of the nation failed to show leadership. So, anybody who says that I will vote or cast my vote or encourage anyone to vote for this regime must be living in Sambisa forest.

‘’There has been failure of leadership. Our children who you represent today have been betrayed. They were betrayed because no action or appropriate action was taken to retrieve your colleagues who were stolen from under our noses, 10 days before this government even accepted that they were missing.”

I DONT BELIEVE IN LOVE...SAYS RONNIE

Ronnie, upcoming Afro pop artiste, in an interview with Vanguard reveals why she doesn’t believe in love “I don’t believe in love, I believe in friendship.

The word love is too ambiguous and is godly. Can any man die for a woman?” she says. When asked if she can go unclad in a music video she said: “I can’t go unclad, there must be clothes to cover up.

So many people want to know if I was naked in My body video, but I was not. I covered up inside. Acting is a make-believe world”

“I always love to pass a message in my song. For me the message comes first. The lyrics are secondary and melody last. All these three are very important to me as an artiste”
Since Tiwa Savage’s pregnancy announcement, music critics have continued to talk about what the pregnancy   means for other female artistes. Ronnie has this to say: “Those who will breakthrough will definitely do with or without Tiwa’s absence. The river   is huge for anyone to swim”.

NIGERIA'S DIPLOMAT ADVISED NIGERIAN WOMEN TO DRESS DECENTLY

Amb. (Mrs) Rajis Okpara, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Singapore has advised Nigerian women to dress decently so that they can be addressed properly.

According to her `the way you dress will determine the way you are address` was still relevant in the country and across the world. She said: “I think it is important for women to dress well, keep fit and take good care of themselves......“You can dignify yourself as a lady by the way you dress; you don’t have to expose your body indecently.

“If you do that you are indirectly telling people that you are available for use. “In as much as we are all craving to look good, I am also of the opinion that we must dress decently.“
She then appealed to stakeholders in Nigeria’s fashion industry to discourage female artistes from dressing indecently. “They should ensure that our culture and traditions are obeyed and not thrown away. “Lately you see Nigerian women across the world exposing their body and ignorantly calling it fashion.

“My advice to the fashion world or people going into fashion is to maintain our culture and to also respect the dignity of womanhood,’’ she added. The ambassador advised Nigerian women to ensure that their voice are heard in the society by voting in the February general elections.

SERVICE CHIEFS EMPTY PROMISES B4 THE POSTPONEMENT OF ELECTIONS

On February 2nd,Nigerian Security Chiefs, said the military was ready for the general elections expected to commence on February 14 with the Presidential and National Assembly elections. The Service Chiefs said, that all the logistic problems that had affected the 2011 elections had been taken care of to ensure that the elections go as scheduled.

Specifically, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosun said; “We have commenced the airlift of the materials needed for the elections starting from Abuja, we will continue with the elections. The whole spectrum of the elections would be involved. It was logistics problems that made us to postpone the election four years ago, it is not going to happen again, we are already ahead of the game.
“We have a lot of unmanned airports in Nigeria, we have already deployed our men, we are going to man those airports. So, should we have saboteurs planning to use any of those airfields, it will be difficult for them. We are going to block all those unmanned airfields. We have already deployed and set up our soldiers to man those airfields. Those are the areas we may have linkages, the airport security, we are already ahead of the game to man the airfields to stop those that will want to bring in illegal materials into the country.”

The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, said, “We are not directly involved in elections and electioneering but before the elections, we deploy will our personnel across the nation to assist civil powers and authority. During the elections, as we have done in other states, we also ensure that people are not used to go and cause trouble or mayhem after the elections and should there be any disturbances, we will assist the police.
“The military will deploy as much as we can across the nation. Even though we are busy in the north east, we also have capability across the nation.”

Chief of Army Staff General Kenneth Minimah said, “We are aware of the need for security before, during and after the elections. We will deploy across the states of the federation, in areas we discover that have capacity for violence. We are prepared to ensure we have a peaceful election. I appeal to politicians to obey the rules of the game and advise their followers to respect the laws of the land. As stipulated in the Electoral Act and the Constitution, no individual or groups should take the laws into their hands. We want the nation to have peace after this election.”

The former Head of State, Genera Abdulsalam Abubakar who is the Chairman of National Peace Committee for the 2015 elections “I have been involved in a lot of peace talks. It is sad when you go round Africa and see the kind of injuries inflicted on people as a result of electoral violence. We appeal to Nigerians to eschew violence. The contestants signed an accord to maintain peace; we demand that their followers maintain peace. The media has a herculean task to preach peace and avoid sensational reporting. We are not taking these threats lightly; we have noted the various utterances.”

The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Suleiman Abba said that the military will have no business to be at the polling booths as it was not its responsibility. He also noted that the support for the civil authority by the military is statutorily provided as it was constitutionally provided in Section 217, adding that the military has the responsibility to support the civil society in maintaining internal security.

Chairman, Vanguard Media Limited, who is a member of the committee, Mr. Sam Amuka, in an interview “we should be wary of publishing some statements that can provoke anger and lead to violence.”
“there is no way you won’t bash the media. If you make a statement and the media does not give it attention, how many people will hear it. So the mass media have an important role, to preserve the peace of the country.” Mr. Amuka said
