UDUAGHAN PARDONS 24-YEAR STUDENT SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR STEALLING MOBILE PHONE

Emmanuel Uduaghan, Delta state governor, has granted total pardon to 24 year old student, Moses Akatugba who was in November 2013 sentenced by an Asaba High Court to death by hanging for stealing three mobile phones and recharge cards!!

Moses was charged to court after he and his robbery gang robbed a women of about N100k, phones, and recharge cards valued at over N100,000 in Delta state.

This wish was granted as Governor Uduaghan during his last Executive meeting at the government house, Asaba yesterday, 28th May. ….  It is interest to know that an Asaba  High Court in Effurun, Delta State, has sentenced a 24-year-old secondary school student, Moses Akatugba, to death by hanging in November 2013, for stealing mobile phones and  recharge cards. "Akatugba was convicted on a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery in contravention of Section 6 (b) and punishable under section 1 (2) (a) of the Robbery and Firearms  (Special Provisions) Act Cap R11 Volume 14 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The prosecution told the court that the convict with others now at large “robbed one Mrs. Akpor Mazino of the sum of N113,930, three phone handsets, 54 various denominations of MTN recharge vouchers, 28 Airtel vouchers and 25 Glo vouchers valued at over N100,000 at No. 30 NNPC Housing Complex Road,
 Ekpan.”

70-YEAR OLD WOMAN AND HER SON ARRESTED FOR ROBBERY IN OGUN STATE

A 70-year-old woman, Moninola Lateef, her 35-year-old son, Modiu, have been arrested for armed robbery in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. 

Muyiwa Adejobi,Ogun state Police command  Public Relations Officer (PRO),while briefing journalists yesterday at the office of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) at Magbon, Abeokuta, disclosed that the septuagenarian was arrested for allegedly taking his son to a herbalist to extract bullets lodged in his body when he was shot during a robbery operation. Adejobi, gave the names of other members of the robbery gang as Wale Okukenu, 30, and Fatai Osho, 28.

WE NOT LEAVE KASHAMU'S HOUSE........NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has said that they would not leave the house of Prince Buruji Kashamu a federal republic senator-elect, despite a court order asking them to leave.

The agency spokesperson in a press statement also said it is hard to believe that a court of law will prevent a government agency from performing its responsibilities.

  “The NDLEA does not believe that any court will issue an order preventing a government agency from performing its statutory responsibilities in a lawful manner. The agency has therefore refused to be distracted and will continue to maintain presence at the residence. It is advisable that Kashamu respects the law by submitting himself to the due process of the law.

“The NDLEA wishes to reiterate that his rights like that of other citizens shall be respected and the due process of law followed in this case. The agency is prepared to further increase her public rating and goodwill in the areas of suspect handling, respect for human rights and the rule of law. We are prepared to explore all legal means in handling this case to a logical conclusion,” Mitchell Ofoyeju, the agency’s spokesperson said in a statement.

ARMED ROBBERS KILLED CHIEF IMAM FOR REFUSING TO OPEN HIS GATE

The Chief Imam of a central mosque in Ifo, Ogun State, Alhaji Isiaka Koleosho, has been shot to death in the presence of his wife and kids after he refused orders from armed bandits to open his gate.

It was gathered that after the bandits gained entry into his home by scaling the fence, they went into his wife’s bedroom where he was killed in the presence of his family members.

The gunmen were said to have also stormed the home of a school proprietor in the area.

The incident, which happened on April 21, 2015, threw the deceased’s family members and residents into fear, forcing some to relocate from the community.

A resident, simply identified as Tajudeen said: “The death of the Imam came to everybody in the community as a surprise. The deceased is our Chief Imam. But as a Muslim, his death does not stop us from using the mosque. We’ve have resigned to fate. When the armed robbers left the victim’s house, they went to a school proprietor’s apartment in the neighborhoods and dispossessed him of his valuables.”

A resident explained that when the armed robbers got to Koleosho’s house, they ordered him to open his gate, but he refused. The bandits were forced to scale the fence into his compound.  

Another resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, said:

“It was about 2am that we heard the screaming and loud noise from their apartment. They were shouting that people should come and rescue them. My mother and some other residents rushed to the cleric’s house. When they got there, they found him in a pool of his blood. The matter was reported at Ifo Police Station.”

The proprietor said: “I was fast asleep when the robbers entered my bedroom. They ordered me and my wife to bring out our money. I told them that we didn’t have enough money at home. One of them brought out a gun and pointed it at my wife. They went into her room and took her jewelries, my money and some other valuables. It was after the robbers had gone that I got to know that they had killed the Islamic cleric.”

Young Nike who tragically lost her mother at the age of 6 was forced to live with her grandmother, late Madam Ibikunle, who was skilled in cloth weaving, and saw no use in western education. 

Nike never went to any art school.Her vocational training from her grandmother made her an expert in ‘Adire’ making, dyeing, weaving, painting and embroidery. 

Her international exposure began in 1968 when she had an exhibition at the Goethe Institute in Lagos. That was the starting point of her international recognition in the art industry. Ever since, she has had exhibitions in countries like the USA, Belgium, Germany, Italy and so on. 

In 2000, she was invited to Italy to train Nigerian sex workers in creative ventures. And in 2006, she was awarded one of the highest Italian national awards of merit by the government of the Republic of Italy in appreciation of her efforts in using art to address and solve the problems of Nigerian sex workers in Italy.

Two American presidents had requested for her presence during their visits to Nigeria - President Bill Clinton and President George Bush. She was given the rare privilege of decorating the bedroom where George Bush stayed during his visit, after he specifically requested to meet her in Abuja. 

Nike who never went to school but lectures in Harvard and other top foreign universities, says: “I feel fulfilled. It was a very high sense of fulfillment. Imagine, a little girl who grew up in a rustic village without any sign of hope for a good future. Now I stand before PHD holders and teach them. I have been invited to meet presidents of foreign countries. I think I should be proud of my little achievements and be grateful to God.”

In spite of her seeming low education, she insists she has no regrets about not attending school. “I have no regrets at all. I give thanks to God for making all these things possible for me. I also thank my husband for standing by me all these years. I must confess that it was not easy coming this far. You will agree with me that for a woman to be recognised, she has to work three times harder than a man.”

NIGERIAN MAN JAILED IN CAMBODIA FOR RAPING A NORWEGIAN LADY

 Nigerian man, Ekwegbalu Ugochukwu Udok, 26, has been sentenced to 5 years in jail term by a Municipal court in Cambodia for beating and raping a Norwegian tourist,  Nodia Ebert,27, in December 2014.

 According to the presiding judge, on the day of the incident, “Udok pretended to be a taxi driver, and asked her to take a ride from him. He said that he would bring her to the Okay Boutique Hotel, but instead, he brought her to his rental house. After arriving at his room, he raped her.” the presiding judge, Im Vanak said while presiding over the case.
