REIGNERS CHURCH COLLAPSE: DOCTORS CALLS FOR BLOOD DONATIONS
This is the official number of casualties as reported by the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA)
On behalf of all the Medical and Dental Practitioners under the auspices of the Nigerian Medical Association(MMA), Akwa Ibom State branch, I wish to commiserate with all the families of those who lost their loved ones during and after the collapse of the Reigners Bible Church building on 10th December 2016.
I also share in the grief, pains, frustrations and suffering of all the survivors who had incurred one form of injury or the other.
Indeed this is a very trying and difficult moment for all of us as our state has never been faced by a disaster of this magnitude with attendant huge casualties.
As patriots, we have to rise to the occassion by being our brothers’ keepers and lending a helping hand to those in need.
I therefore, wish to sincerely commend all the members of the NIGERIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION(NMA), AKWA IBOM STATE BRANCH, for heeding the call to selfless service as expressed in the prompt and timely response that has saved so many lives.
The response team led by a past Chairman of the association, DR JOHN UDOBANG,has done a good job in ensuring that victims of this very unfortunate disaster are well catered for and treated at the various health facilities in the state.
Reports from the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital(UUTH) show that 21 people were Brought In Dead(BID) , while 2 out of the 23 that were undergoing treatment died due mainly to severe bleeding( One of the victims is reported to have been transfused with 9 pints of blood).
I also wish to express our sincere gratitude to all those who have heeded our clarion call to donate blood. More blood is still needed. The number of lives your pint of blood will save can’t be underestimated.
I also call on all the survivors who had suffered any form of trauma to report to the various health facilities for proper medical examination as blunt injuries could lead to internal bleeding and avoidable deaths.
In conclusion, I assure all the members of the public, that as a responsible and proactive association, we will not rest on our oars until all the lives of the survivors are saved and they are discharged from the hospitals back to their families.
Lastly, I pray God to grant the families of all those who lost their lives the fortitude to bear the loss
And may the souls of the faithful departed, Rest In Perfect Peace(RIP).
Amen.

AMAZING 4-GENERATION OF NIGERIAN FAMILY PHOTO: LIFE IS INDEED BEAUTIFUL !!!
According toLIB ,Elophoto studio posted this photo of four generation....his grandmother-in law, mother-in law, his wife and daughter. What he wrote after the cut...
"Last week I took it upon myself to visit my wife’s grandmother in a village in Edo State. It has been over 10 years since I saw her and I had a feeling she might not be around for as long as we think. At 92, you could literally say she’s seen her share of what life has to offer especially when she has witnessed 4 generations of life. It was a 25-hours roadtrip that was worth every minute of it. I wanted to document the lineage of the one I considered to have been priviledged to call wife for over 10 years.
I would eventually take the following conceptual picture of my grandma-inlaw, my mother-inlaw, my wife, and my daughter. I wanted to document the family in a way that was different from the family portraits I had taken in the past. Looking at the picture, I eventually got more insights to life than I had envisaged.
Life is indeed beautiful regardless of the trials one has been through. When I look at the picture I see a woman in her 90s who had experienced 4 miscarriages before giving birth to my mother inlaw. I see a woman in her 60s who has lost her husband and is the definition of a strong and virtuous woman. I see a woman in her 30s whose relationship with me can be likened to the undeserved grace God extended towards the Gentiles: I didn’t deserve her but God favored me. I see a woman in her 3s (if there’s something like that, or what will I call a 3.5 years old girl) whose confidence, beauty and intelligence still manages to amuse me every day. What do you see when you look at this portrait of 4 generations?

OBASANJO AND OTHERS URGED OONI TO IGNORE THE OLUGBO AND FOCUS ON HIS UNIFICATION AGENDA
Eminent Yoruba Patriots which includes former president of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka on Wednesday urged the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, to ignore anybody, who called Moremi Ajasoro a traitor.
In his speech at the event, Professor Soyinka said somebody's view about Moremi did not take away anything from the reality of who she was and that no celebration in her honour could be too much.
“There is controversy about the origin of someone whom we know as the origin of Yoruba race, kingdom, black race and humanity. The controversy may continue for long but the reality is that Kabiyesi, the Ooni of Ife above all, Ile Ife is the cradle of humanity.
“We know what we know; we know what we accept and believe and that remains the fact. I have just gone to see the statue of Moremi and the controversy on Moremi. I learnt that some people said that Moremi, the heroine, is a traitor. That does not touch any part of reality of what Moremi is or was. And as the head of this race, I don’t want you (Ooni) to spend any time or energy at all responding to counter or alternative theories. It is not necessary.” Prof Soyinka said.
Soyinka, who added that the influence of the Ooni and Ile Ife as the cradle of mankind transcended this region also said the Ife monarch was recognised and referred above other Obas outside the shores of Nigeria.
Soyinka who's first child bears the name MOREMI added that the influence of Ile-Ife transcends Nigeria and Africa. “If you walk on the street of Cuba or Brazil, somebody will tap you on your shoulder because they know you are black, they say ‘who are you?’ And you say ‘I am Osun, Ogun, Sango’. At the end, they will ask you how is the Ooni? It means the Yoruba race, culture is beyond this environment,” Soyinka added.
The former President said Oba Ogunwusi had done very well to unite Yoruba monarchs and had embarked on the transformation of Ile Ife in the past one year on the throne of his forefathers.
“I commend His Imperial Majesty, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, for his unification agenda and for ensuring that the Yoruba race remains undivided.”
He stated that he had been watching the unification and transformation moves of Oba Ogunwusi with keen interest immediately after he ascended the throne.
The former President described the moves “as a very good thing,” adding that unity would bring peace and development to the people.
He urged the Ife monarch as the spiritual leader of Yoruba not to relent in ensuring that the entire Yoruba race was brought together.
Ooni Ogunwusi later told journalists in an interview after the that he would not relent in his efforts towards ensuring the unity of the race and to emancipate Ife youths from unemployment and poverty.
He said peace in Yorubaland was critical to the peace of Nigeria and Africa, adding that peace in Yoruba land was non-negotiable.
The Arole Oodua said he was aware of the economic crisis when he was inaugurated as the 51st Ooni of Ife but he decided to make a difference in the lives of his people despite recession.
The monarch stated that he focused on agriculture, tourism and youth empowerment to restore peace and tranquility to the once troubled town.
The Ooni stated that the communal clash between Ife and Modakeke left post-war effect which turned some of the youths to miscreants.
He, however, noted that through his efforts, most of the youths had now been given hope, while peace had been restored to Ile Ife.
“We know the situation of things in Ile Ife before I came. We know that dollar is not affecting what we produce on our farms and we focused on three things- agriculture, tourism and youth emancipation.
“We encourage our youths to produce and I am a promoter of local goods. Everything I wear is produced locally excluding my wristwatches. My beads and shoes are produced here.
“The Ife-Modakeke war left our youths to be heartless and carefree but now Ife has become one of the most peaceful towns in the country.” Ooni Ogunwusi said.
Also in attendance at the low-key occasion is the Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, Deputy governor Titi Laoye-Tomori who represented governor Rauf Aregbesola of the state of Osun, former governor Theophilos Bamigboye, Senator Jeremiah Oseni, Senator Grace Bent, Alhaji Suaib Oyedokun, Asiwaju of Ife Chief Alex Dudu Yemi, Elegusi of Ikate Oba Saheed Elegusi, Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Ganiyu Oloogunebi, about 60 other monarchs from across Nigeria and Republic of Benin, to mention but just a few.
While the ongoing first coronation anniversary Ooni Ogunwusi continues till Sunday, the event of Wednesday that witnessed the book launch was climaxed by the O TI SE'ESE CARNIVAL attended by thousands of Nigerian youths at Olokun park and IRAWO OODUA MEDALS AWARDS bestowed on eminent Oodua's sons and daughters including Chief Mrs Nike Akande, Professor Sophie Oluwole and Hon. Funmilayo Tejuoso.

BOYFRIEND STABS LOVER TO DEATH FOR REFUSING TO MAKE HIM NEXT-OF-KIN TO HER ACCOUNT!
Sotonye Martin, a boyfriend to a female staff of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Sophia Phillips Horsefall, and two others, Innocent Oluche and Wachukwu Ugochukwu, yesterday arraigned before a Port Harcourt magistrate court,by operatives of the Department for State Security DSS in Rivers for allegedly stabbing her to death on November 8th after she refused to make him, Sotonye, her next-of-kin to her bank account as well as her refusal to give him one million (N1 million) he had demanded from her.
According to Vanguard, Sotonye lured the deceased, to his friend, Innocent Oluche's house where she was killed. After the act, the men dug a shallow grave, invited Wachukwu Ugochukwu, a spiritualist to perform some rituals and then buried her.
Counsel to the DSS, C.S. Eze told the court that the accused were brought before the court on a three-count charge which included “stabbing to death with a jack knife and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law, Laws of Rivers State 1999.”
The accused persons did not take plea. Chief Magistrate F. Alikor after hearing the submission of the DSS Counsel, referred the casefile to the state Director of Public Prosecution, saying her court did not have jurisdiction to entertain matters over murder which was the second charge.
She ordered that the suspects be remanded in prison and adjourned the case indefinitely. Speaking to newsmen after the case was adjourned.
The elder brother to the deceased, Amatu Phillips, accused Sotonye of murdering his sister whom he had dated for 13 years, because of her wealth.
He claimed she had some money in her account and confided in the boyfriend who later kept on pestering her for financial support. According to him, after the sister had allegedly given him money several times, he came again demanding for N1 million which she refused. He alleged that the boyfriend later lured her to his friend’s house, offered her a fruit juice drink which, unknown to the sister, was drugged.
He alleged that when the boyfriend noticed that she was dizzy from effect of the drug, he stabbed her on the neck, demanding her ATM card and password.
He claimed the boyfriend had before that day persuaded his sister to change the name of her next of kin on her bank details to his name.
