HOW NADECO LEADERS BETRAYED ABIOLA ~~ BAMAIYI

Former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi, has alleged that the betrayal of the acclaimed winner of June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola, by members of the defunct National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) resulted in his continuous detention and eventual death.

Bamaiyi, in his 243-page autobiography titled: ‘Vindication of a General’ launched last Thursday in Abuja, said the advice of NADECO to Abiola that he should not accept his conditional release was the reason he was kept in detention indefinitely by the former dictator, General Sani Abacha, until he passed on.

Bamaiyi, who was Chief of Army Staff between March 1996 and May 1999, and one of the powerful men in that regime until he fell out of favour with the late dictator, so accused NADECO leaders of pushing the late Abiola to declare himself as president in 1994 without being committed to such move.

Bamaiyi’s claim is however at variance with historical facts which show that NADECO leaders staked their lives for the actualisation of Abiola’s June 12 mandate, resulting in the deaths of some of them including Chief Alfred Rewane, who was murdered in cold blood. Chief Abraham Adesanya, escaped assassin’s  bullets by the whiskers while a  host of others went on exile.

In his book, Bamaiyi claimed that the NADECO leaders only impelled Abiola to declare himself as president but failed to accompany him to the declaration ground, an indication of their insincere support for the late politician. He also claimed that even in death, NADECO leaders still betrayed Abiola.

“A lot has been said about late Chief Abiola’s arrest and efforts toward his release. The fact remains that NADECO members paid only lip service to Abiola’s release after deceiving him into declaring himself President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If they  were sincere and actually supported him, they would have accompanied him to where he declared himself President.

“It is also obvious that Abiola was abandoned after his death, which some people suspected that it had the support of some NADECO members. After Abiola’s death, one would have expected some reactions at least from Lagos, but there was no reaction anywhere,” he claimed.

The former army chief also claimed that following the failure of NADECO to lead the way for the release of Abiola, he (Bamaiyi) and former President of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Pascal Bafyau, along with Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), General Ibrahim Gumel, met and resolved to make case for Abiola’s release.

“There are some Nigerians who made efforts to get Abiola released. After Abiola’s arrest, the late General Ibrahim Gumel – then the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), the late Mr. Pascal Bafyau – then the President of  NLC and I met at Headquaters Lagos Garrison Command on Kofo Abayomi Street. We discussed the implications of Abiola’s arrest.

“After reviewing the situation, we decided to meet Gen. Abacha. Gumel and I went to Gen. Abacha and pleaded for Abiola’s release. We convinced Abacha that Abiola was not going to be a threat and could be handled. Abacha agreed to release Abiola with some conditions.

“We conveyed Abacha’s agreement to release Abiola to Bafyau who briefed some NADECO members on Abacha’s readiness to release Abiola with some conditions. These NADECO members advised Abiola not to accept release with conditions and kept him in detention. Initially, Abiola accepted the conditional release and a judge was brought to Abuja to perfect it. The release documents were ready and Abiola was to go and sign them but some NADECO members advised him against doing so, and he remained in detention until Abacha’s death,” Bamaiyi said.

The retired general also addressed allegations that the United States budgeted $50 million for “Abacha Project” with the intention to destabilise Nigeria.

Whereas the $50 million was said to have passed through Bamaiyi, he denied knowledge of the plot, saying it was an allegation cooked up by some enemies of the late Abacha.

According excerpts from the book, Bamaiyi claimed:

“The Abacha project (AP) was said to be a US-sponsored plot with a budget of US$50m meant to destabilise Nigeria. Of this amount, the sum of $10m was said to have found its way into the military already. A member observed that, of recent, money had been changing hands in the military…

“The member then alluded to the recent deployment of troops of the 223 Tk Bn in Zuru by COAS in which the CO, Maj. Dogara was made to arrest and humiliate the NDLEA Chairman, Major-General MM Bamaiyi, on an issue that had no bearing on national or military security. The fact that the troops were called out by COAS without the knowledge of the GOC was considered worrisome to a member who felt the action should be weighed against recent developments affecting COAS Vis-a-Vis national security.

“At the end of the meeting, it was recommended that a joint PRC/Council of States meeting be held to include all military ministers at which the issue of the consensus adoption of the (Commander-in-Chief) C in C was to be tabled. I was to be spokesperson to the press to get me committed. Interestingly, the meeting was chaired by Idi Musa, a close friend of mine. I never had anything to do with NADECO. I only read about them in newspapers and knew some of them only by name.

“The question of having anything to do with the US Embassy was most embarrassing….The Abacha project was unknown to me. I believe it was an invention of the writers. They wrote that the Abacha Project was said to be a US-sponsored plot with a budget of $50m which they claimed was passed through me to the military.

“I believe these people deceived Abacha till he died. To the best of my knowledge, there was never anything between the Nigerian Army and the United States of America to destabilise the Abacha government. The officers who attended this meeting must have been Abacha’s greatest enemies and made Abacha ineffective toward his end.”

Two Nigerian women, identified as Ify Mba, and Ammanda Eze Chioma , who were arrested in Ghana for allegedly trafficking six women from Nigeria to Ghana for commercial sex work, was on Thursday pleaded not guilty before an Accra Circuit Court  to the charge and were both granted bail in the sum of GHc70,000.00 with three sureties each, one of which is to be justified by the court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku.

Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agnes Boafo told the court that on March 24, the police had information that a group of Nigerian girls were being escorted by some women into a hotel within Baatsonaa for solicitation.

The prosecution said based on intelligence, the police embarked on an operation and arrested the accused persons, and also six other young ladies ages between 21 and 26.

She said the accused persons, together with another, now at large, are Nigerian nationals who came to Ghana and are lodging at Kormens Hotel, Baatsonaa.

ASP Boafo told the court that the ladies revealed to the police that they were brought from Nigeria by the accused persons on transit to Germany and Dubai to be employed as house helps. But upon their arrival, they were forced by the accused persons to go into soliciting.

She said investigations established that the victims were locked up in a hotel room after which they were made to swear an oath and forced to engage in prostitution in nightclubs and hotels in Baatsona. She added that the victims were made to pay N555K to the accused persons.

She also said two other victims were brought into the country on March 23, and made to go through the same ritual.

She further revealed in court that the victims were denied food and water for some days when they initially refused to engage in the illegal trade, forcing them to rescind their decisions.

WORLD AUTISM DAY: FEMI OTEDOLA'S DAUGHTER WRITES ABOUT LIVING HER AUTISTIC BROTHER !

To mark the 2017 World Autism Day, Femi Otedola's daughter, Temi,writes about her autistic brother ,Fewa,( Billionaire Femi Otedola's third child) who is autistic. Her's what she wrote;

Autism Awareness day was launched 9 years ago to raise awareness and conversation about the people living with autism around the globe. with this in mind, I have decided to share my own personal experience with autism.

Before getting to my own personal journey of loving and knowing someone on the autistic spectrum, I think it’s important to first describe what it is to those of you reading who are less familiar. Essentially, autism is a social development disorder which affects the cognitive, communicative and interactive ability of the brain.

People with autism struggle with heightened sensory stimulation and need a lot of attention and support from their parents, teachers and siblings to ensure they can lead the most productive and happy life possible. Raising awareness is not the main goal at this point–understanding is, and even more important–acceptance. So this Autism Awareness Day I ask for all of you, to appreciate, love on, or simply accept those living with autism.

How has autism personally affected my life?
In 2004, my mum called my sisters and me into her bedroom. With the composure only a mother can have, she told us that our baby brother, Fewa, had ‘special needs’. While my sisters asked questions, all I could do was think about what this would mean for me, the already overindulged, youngest of three girls.

Thankfully, my selfishness quickly wore off and Fewa quickly became the centre of our family. The role of an older sister always entails some sort of responsibility. However, the role of an older sister to an autistic sibling is a great deal more work. At first, it seemed like every day with him was a challenge, especially for my mother. I remember seeing my mum helping Fewa with simple tasks like brushing his teeth, helping him to get dressed, or feeding him lunch, with each day ultimately ending in exhaustion. Our family has been so blessed to have help from carers, but no one can deny the resilience my mother has had raising Fewa. It is the thing I most respect about her.

Every day, I see him becoming more independent. Our relationship is becoming less one-sided; I can truly say that we are friends. Fewa doesn’t need anyone’s sympathy. He is the most genuine and caring person I know. This is probably why I have never seen Fewa’s autism as necessarily and totally negative, it is a unique characteristic that adds to the complexity of the person that he is.
I am not naïve or unrealistic. I certainly have some gnawing worries about the future.

Fewa will always need support of some kind. At age sixteen he still requires 24 hour help. I would say that the biggest misconception about autism is that people who have it are  socially inept geniuses  – Rainman, anyone? Yes, that is true for some autistic people, but there is a reason the official term is “autism spectrum disorder”. It is a spectrum, and it can range from children who are not able to speak at all to children who can go to normal schools.

No matter what I do, I need to build my life with Fewa in mind. My parents won’t be around forever, and his care and well-being will become the responsibility of me and my sisters. It is true that consideration for Fewa will always affect the decisions I make in my life. Despite this, Fewa is by no means a burden. These worries do not reduce the immense love I have for my brother who has brought so much joy and shown me the purest form of love. To quote The Bard, “Love sought is good, but given unsought is better.” It is Fewa’s unconditional love that has shaped me into the woman I am today – a sister, a teacher, a carer and a best friend.

EMIR OF KANO VOWS TO GET BARBER ARRESTED FOR DAMAGING PRIVATE PART OF 15-YEAR OLD BRIDE !

Emir of Kano has vowed to ensure that the Commissioner of Police in Kano state gets one Mallam Shu’aibu Wanzam, a local barber arrested for damaging the private part of 15 year old bride named Kaltume Ibrahim Mai-Kaji pictured above, during circumcision.

According to the post on the Emir's IG page, Kaltume Ibrahim Mai-Kaji and Aminu Ali, her husband, had spent several years dating before they eventually got married in 2013 in Kano State, when she clocked 15 years.

However, after they got married, Kaltume refused to allow her husband have sexual affairs with her. Anytime she was invited to bed she would decline. Ali had severally complained about his wife’s attitude to his parents, but each time, he would be told to exercise patience. He was always advised to intensify prayers and give his wife sometime to adapt to her new environment and social status. In his quest to solve the problem, Ali had tried several herbs on his wife, but all in vein. Kaltume never slept with him throughout her stay with him. After several unsuccessful attempts, Ali sought the intervention of his father-in-law, Mallam Ibrahim Mai-Kaji, who administered many herbs on her, but there was no improvement. Finally, her father invited one Mallam Shu’aibu Wanzam, a local barber, to circumcise Kultume, thinking that it would solve her problem. Unfortunately, in the process of circumcizing her, Wanzam removed a portion of her private part. As a result of this, she can no longer urinate like a normal person. Kaltume who is 19 years old now, currently urinates through a tube that was carefully strapped above her sex organ, which medical doctors confirmed was completely damaged.

Reacting to the case, the Emir said he wept when the matter was brought to his knowledge.
"When the case was reported me, i summoned the affected family and the ward head of the area to my palace on Monday, March 27, 2017. When Kaltume’s ordeal was narrated to me, I wept  and cursed those who contributed to her condition. I also sacked the ward head for allowing genital mutilation in his area of jurisdiction.  I have directed the Commissioner of Police to arrest Wanzam and whoever had a hand in this heinous crime. They will be punished. If the commissioner fails to do something, I will personally petition the I.G of Police. I will follow this case to its logical conclusion"he said
