A NIGERIAN MAN ARRESTED AT INDIAN AIRPORT FOR 'BLACK DOLLAR SCAM'

A Nigerian man was  on Friday, June 2, arrested at Delhi's Indira Gandhi Airport for 'black dollar scam' and forgery.

Officials said that the man identified as Gabriel Blessing Efe, was trying to travel to Kolkata and Bhubaneswar on forged documents.

For those who don't know, a black dollar scam is a trick where con artists attempt to obtain money by duping their victim by persuading them that a bundle of banknote-sized paper are actually currency notes that have been dyed to avoid detection, and can be brought back to original dollars if treated with a particular chemical.
"Last Friday a Nigerian national who arrived at the Delhi airport to fly to Kolkata via Bhuvneshwer by an Indigo flight 6E 701, was intercepted based on a tip off. According to the documents he held, he was identified as one Mike Danny Efe. On screening of his luggage, a suspicious bundle of papers which were in the size of currency notes and a bottle of chemical were recovered from him," said Sanjay Bhatia, DCP IGI.
On finding these suspicious articles, the man was off loaded and was detained for further enquiry. Interrogation revealed that his original name was Gabriel Blessing Efe and that he had fraudulently obtained a passport and business visa.

He further disclosed that he had come to India in 2012 for the first time and went back to Nigeria in 2013. In 2015 he again came to India on a business visa and stayed in different cities including Mumbai and Delhi, police said.

"He further disclosed that one of his Nigerian friends, Tonny, who is in Kolkata, asked him to bring dollar size bundles of papers along with a bottle of chemicals. These items were provided to Efe by another Nigerian national Oscar at New Delhi Railway Station and he was asked to deliver it to Tonny in Kolkata. He also said they were looking to dupe one businessman on the pretext of providing him US dollars on cheap rates. They told the target that the dollars, which are in paper form, can be converted into original USDs, after a chemical wash," said Bhatia.
With the arrest, police have recovered 14 bundles of currency size paper with each bundle containing 100 papers and one bottle of chemical.
"A record from the immigration department has also been sought to ascertain the travel record of accused Gabriel and others. A team has been deployed to scrutinise the CCTV footage of ticketing agent and railway stations for more clues," the DCP said.

180 CONDEMNED CRIMINALS IN WARRI PRISON AWAITING EXECUTION

The Chief Judge of Delta State, Honourable Justice Marshal Umukoro, said that no fewer than 180 condemned criminals are awaiting execution in Warri Prison.

Justice Umukoro disclosed this while expressing his concern over the rising number of condemned criminals on death row, during a courtesy visit by the Chairman and Members of the Delta State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy on Tuesday in Asaba.

Umukoro called for the relocation of the Medium Prison to the outskirt of the city, as practiced in other climes of the world.

The Chief Judge while lamenting the high crime rate in the state, attributed the prevalent crime rates to family dysfunction.

He also called on the Advisory Body headed by Chief A.P.J. Okpakpor, the first Attorney-General of Delta State, to be vigilant and professional in making their recommendations to the Governor in the exercise of his powers of Prerogative of Mercy under section 212 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Justice Umukoro who told the Chairman and Members of the Advisory Council to be guided by the statutory requirements while considering applications for granting of amnesty, noted that those to be considered must have either exhausted all his or her legal rights of appeal or is not interested in pursuing such right.

According to him, other grounds for consideration includes when an inmate is discovered to have been wrongly convicted or on health ground which he advised must be properly investigated as according to Justice Umukoro, medical certificates can be doctored with a view to misleading the Council.

He also charged members of the Advisory Body to embark on prison visitation to ascertain claims by inmates who applied for amnesty before making their recommendations, even as he advocated for constitutional amendment to remove prison from the exclusive legislative list.

Earlier, the Chairman of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, Chief A.P.J. Okpakpor, described the judiciary as the last hope of both the rich and the common man, adding that without the judgement of the Courts, the Council will be unable to discharge its statutory functions.

Okpakpor who disclosed that the visit was to pay the Chief Justice obedience and tap from his wealth of experience as the head of the judiciary in the State, raised the alarm over the decay of prison facilities.

He also hinted the Chief Judge of the Council’s intention of embarking on visit to the various Federal Prisons in the State for the spot assessment.

Okpakpor was accompanied by other members of the Council, including the Secretary, Mrs. Uju Monye, Dr. Sam Efetobor, Hon. Krees Njiokwuemini and representative of the Nigerian Prisons Service, CSP Paulina Egbon.

Other Members of the seven-man Advisory Council include Mrs. Irene Imilar (representing Delta South) and John Okoriko Esq (representing the Nigeria Bar Association.

BREAKING NEWS:GOV. EL-RUFAI ORDERS ARREST "NORTHERN YOUTHS" WHO ORDERED IGBOS TO LEAVE THE NORTH !

Governor El-Rufai Orders Arrest Of Miscreants Who Ordered Igbos To Leave The North And Threatened Them.

“The Kaduna State Government condemns in the strongest terms the press statement by some self-appointed “northern youths” that threatened the safety and property of our citizens of Igbo extraction.
Government assures every resident of our state that their constitutional and human rights to live peacefully and own property wherever they choose is sacrosanct. Even people who may feel unhappy about irresponsible comments or actions that have taken place in other states must know that two wrongs cannot make a right.

The Kaduna State Government believes in and will uphold the right of every Nigerian to live safely and develop his/her full potentials within its territory.

Reckless disregard for the rights of other citizens drips through the press statement by these “northern youths” who have chosen to use the discourse around restructuring to promote their own agenda of hate, division and incitement. This sort of opportunists cannot be allowed to distort debate, or turn it into a pretext for a barely-disguised agenda of displacement and dispossession of some citizens.

We will not tolerate such irresponsible statements and conduct in our state. The statement issued by the “northern youths” violates the laws of Kaduna State. Therefore, the Kaduna State Government has directed that its Ministry of Justice should prepare charges and prosecute the signatories and anyone complicit in arranging this egregious assault on the rights of fellow citizens.

Preparatory to prosecution, the police have been directed to immediately arrest, interrogate the
signatories to the statement and investigate all the circumstances and persons that may be implicated in the matter.

The Kaduna State Government urges all residents to ignore the threats from the “northern youths”. We are in contact with the leadership of the Igbo community in Kaduna, and we delighted to say that this community, like all our other communities, believes in the strength of the constitutional order to protect all citizens.

KDSG wishes to encourage all our people to celebrate the diversity with which the Almighty has blessed us, to continue to shun agents of division, and to stand firm in upholding a common humanity. Everyone has a right to live in peace and harmony.”

"I HAVE SOLD 20 CHILDREN TO MADAM GOODNESS IN TWO YEARS"~~ FEMALE CHILD TRAFFICKER

The suspect, Chinaza Onwuasoanya,22, who hails from Ebenebe, Awka North Local Government Area, Anambra State, was impregnated by her boyfriend in Lagos and returned to Anambra State to have the baby after which she sold the child to a 45-year-old woman, Goodness, who runs an orphanage, which the police allege was a cover for a baby trafficking operation.

Onwuasoanya sold her newborn baby girl to Goodness, in exchange for the sum of N150,000. On realizing that she could make easy money from selling children, she moved into child-trafficking. Recounting her journey into child-trafficking, Onwuasoanya told Sunday Sun, she said:
"I got into child trafficking two years ago. I have sold 20 male and female children to Madam Goodness who operates the orphanage. She paid me between N150,000 and N200,000 for each baby I sold to her. I got to know her when I became pregnant and gave birth to a girl on October 4, 2013.  After I delivered the baby, a friend introduced me to Madam Goodness. I took my daughter to her and she gave me N150,000.00, to take care of myself. After that time, I decided to go into child trafficking by kidnapping children coming back from school or getting them in the street. Then I would take them to Madam Goodness. And she would sell them between N150,000 and N200,000. But I was arrested on May 1, 2017, when I stole a set of twins at an estate in Onitsha and took them to my house. Suddenly the father of the twins traced me to my house and came with policemen and I was arrested."
She confessed to being a member of the gang of robbers who killed two policemen, Inspector Shuaibu Usman and Sergeant Julius Matthew, of Police Mobile Force 29 in February, 2017 at Nkpor fly-over, Onitsha and took their AK-47 rifles, which were later used to commit robberies in Nkpor, Obosi, Ogidi, Nkpor Old Road, Awka, Oye-agu.

She also assisted the SARS operatives to arrest three members of the gang while the other six members escaped and are still at large. She disclosed that she was always given her own share of the money made during robbery operations, saying that she got between N50,000 and N80,000.

.
“I have regretted what I did. My parents are alive. It was my friend who introduced to child trafficking and which led me to armed robbery today,"
The Commander of SARS, Supol Sunday Okpe confirmed that Ownuasoanya’s confession led to the arrest of three people alleged to be members of the gang.

The suspects are: Ifeanyi Onwukwe a.k.a Nger, 22; Chidubem Osita a.k.a Kabaka, 23, and Chijioke Obi a.k.a Abababa, who is 23 years old.

Upon interrogation, Onwukwe confessed that they killed two policemen at Nkpor.
"We went with one vehicle and three motorcycles which we always used for our robbery operations. We always met at the football field at Nkpor to plan our strategies. The SARS operatives recovered an AK47 rifle from us. We used the AK47 rifle to carry out our operations."
Goodness who admitted to running an orphanage, which had 15 children, however, denied engaging in child trafficking.
"Students who got pregnant come to us to deliver their babies, and we take care of them. Also children whose parents died are brought to us too. I don’t sell children rather I take care of them. I have never known Chinasa Onwuasoanya in my life"
