PHOTOS: OONI FINALLY ACCEPTS BRIDE PRICE REFUND FROM BENIN! (DETAILS)

The coast seems clear for Olori Wuraola as the customary bride price paid by the Ooni Of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi  has been returned fully from the elders of Queen Zynab’s Family in Benin City, Nigeria.

According to a source in Benin, the Ooni was initially reluctant to collect the bride price, but was persuaded by the Elders as a way of closing the controversial marriage and separation.

“She’s free now, she’s free…,” the Ooni was quoted to have exclaimed afterwards.
The Elders had sued for amicable settlement instead of a rough separation. Both families appeared relieved about this final foreclosure of the marriage that lasted less than two years.
It will be recalled that earlier in August, an online magazine, The Boss exclusively reported the break of the marriage between the revered kingdoms of Ife and Benin, where the paramount ruler of Ife Kingdom, and first among the list of Yoruba Obas, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi took Queen Zynab to wife.

The marriage which was contracted in March 2016 in elaborate ceremonies held in Benin and Ife hit the rocks over alleged infidelity.
According to a reliable source, it was imperative that the bride price be returned even as it is just a token, adding that it holds significant value and meaningful according to tradition.
“When a bride price is returned, the man no longer have ties or right over the woman in question, and they can only see themselves afterwards as friends if they so desire,” the source said.

Recall that after the declaration of Olori Wuraola that she was done with the king, a Yoruba popular Ifa traditionalist, playwright, actor and author, Yemi Elebuibon opined on the consequence of a queen separating from a king.
While noting that Ooni would not be the first Yoruba Oba to be separated from his wife, Elebuibon stressed that marriage breakup is not very common among Yoruba Obas.
He said, “The wife of the Oba will be asked to consult Ifa and Ifa will give directions on how she will make the necessary atonement for her cleansing. In Yoruba tradition, a woman who has been married to a king cannot lay with any other man even if the marriage breaks up. But when the right atonements have been made, there won’t be problem.”
On the kind of problems which an Oba’s ex-wife might encounter if she refuses to undergo the traditional cleansing rites, Elebuibon said: “For the woman, she might not really have a problem but for any man who sleeps with a queen or marries an ex-queen without the appropriate cleansing, the man may die prematurely, he may be struck with sickness or there might be retrogression in his life.”
He explained that if an ex-queen wants to remarry, she will have to do the cleansing with her new husband. Both of them have to take part in the atonement procedures so that they won’t have any future problem.

DINO MELAYE RECALL PROCESS CAN NOW CONTINUE~~ ABUJA HIGH COURT

An Abuja High Court has just dismissed Melaye's suit which sought to stop his recall process.
The Senator who represents Kogi West in the upper legislative chamber had approached the court in June of 2017; in a bid to stop his recall.

On June 21, 2017, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed that it had received the signatures from Melaye's constituents. The commission then slated August 19 for the verification of the signatures from Kogi West.

Melaye thereafter proceeded to the Abuja High court claiming that the petition contained the names of dead people.  to halt the recall process. The Judge then asked INEC to halt the recall process pending determination of Melaye's application.

In its ruling today, the High Court said contrary to Melaye's application which stated that he hadn't been granted fair hearing, the constitution doesn't require a special provision that compels INEC to grant the senator fair hearing.

The court,  presided over by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, thereafter ruled that Melaye be handed the recall petition, schedule of signatures attached to the petition and the list of persons who want the senator recalled, within two weeks.

By today's ruling, the Melaye recall process will now pick up from where it had stopped before the judiciary was brought into the unfolding scenario.

UPDATE: NIGERIAN MAN CHOCKED SELF TO DEATH AFTER SWALLOWING DRUGS~~SOUTH AFRICA POLICE

The death of a 36-year-old Nigerian man in Vryheid, South Africa has taken a new turn following allegations that he was killed by police in a xenophobic attack.

Aggrieved Nigerians claimed that Kingsley Ikeri was tortured and suffocated to death by the police who were conducting a drug raid on August 30.

According to Emeka Okoye, a friend of Mr Ikeri, who was arrested with him on the same day, the police took Mr Okoye to his house, they put a plastic over his face and handcuffed his legs and hands for over an hour and thirty minutes.

Recalling the story Mr Okoye narrated to Channels Television,  that he had never experienced anything like the ordeal before and that he nearly died. “Even now, if I cough, I cough out blood,” said Mr Okoye.

Mr Okoye said that the police then took him to the cells and took Ikeri away for, what he believes, was the same tortured.

However, the inquest investigation at the Ulundi police station,South Africa, however, tells a completely different story.

According to the police report, Kingsley is said to have died on Saturday, August 26, after choking on what is believed to be a small packet of drugs that he attempted to quickly swallow when police arrived at his house.

According to the statement, members of the Ulundi Public Order Policing unit conducted a drug operation in the Vryheid CBD on Saturday, August 26.

Emeka Okoye was arrested for the possession of drugs and detained. Upon being questioned, Mr Okoye is said to have given the police information regarding another drug dealer residing in East Street, but could not give the police his name.

After taking Mr Okoye to the cells, the police proceeded to the said house with the intentions to search for drugs and make possible arrests.

It is here where they found Kingsley Ikeri, who proceeded to swallow an unknown packet, downing it with a beer as they approached him. He is said to have started choking and members of the police took him to Vryheid Hospital where he was later declared deceased.

An inquest has been opened following his death and samples have been taken for a toxicology report.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) are hoping that the results will prove what really happened during the account and that the necessary steps will then be taken.
