LAGOS GOVERNMENT READY TO SANCTION SCHOOLS DEFYING CLOSURE DIRECTIVES

The Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), has condemned the action of Private Primary and Secondary School owners inviting students to school, despite the government’s directives to close schools.

A statement issued today by the Office of the Director-General, OEQA, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, warned owners and administrators of such schools to desist from reopening under whatever guise, noting that any school caught flouting the directive of the Federal and State governments on closure will be heavily sanctioned.

She said. "the Office Monitoring and Investigation team will embark on compliance monitoring exercises across the State to ensure schools adhere strictly to the safety directives issued by the government to prevent the spread of COVID-19."

"the safety of all children, teachers and the general public is a priority, saying that the government has observed the high compliance of schools except for few that indulge in the illegal opening without concern for the health and safety of their pupils."

She, therefore, solicited the cooperation of all stakeholders in curbing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the State and enjoined anyone with information on such recalcitrant schools to contact the Office through its official emails: info@oeqalagos.com or report@oeqalagos.com.

RAPISTS ON THE LOOSE IN NIGERIA: 717 RAPE INCIDENTS IN 5 MONTHS~~IGP

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has said that 717 rape incidents have been reported to the police across the country from January-May this year alone.

The IGP made this revelation while speaking with state house correspondents after himself, the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, and the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, met with President Buhari this morning over the increasing incidence of rape cases.

The police chief said 799 suspects have been arrested so far, 631 cases conclusively investigated and charged to court, and 52 cases are left and under investigation. He added that the COVID19 restriction is responsible for the spike in the number of rape cases.

''We are here to brief you on sexual and gender-based violence and the action that the government has been taking, particularly the Nigeria Police. It has come to the public knowledge now that because of the COVID-19 restrictions, we have a surge in cases of rape and gender-based violence. These are cases that are now coming up but we want to let members of the public know that, rape and gender-based violence have been there.

The law enforcement agents have been dealing with these cases, in most cases, members of the public are not aware of the actions that the law enforcement agents have been taking.

The Nigeria police so far from January-May 2020, we have recorded about 717 rape incidents that were reported across the country, about 799 suspects have been arrested, 631 cases conclusively investigated and charged to court and 52 cases are left and under investigation.'' he said

He called on rape victims to always ensure they report the matter to the police. According to him, remaining silent gives a perpetrator another opportunity to prey on his next victim

“It is a very wicked offense, it is very serious offense, it is very wicked of an individual to engage in rape or defilement. And there are a lot of causes, some are doing it for ritual purposes, some are doing it because they are within the family and they see the victims and have the urge to go into it and do it. But such people should not be allowed to go scotch free.

I am just to inform you that the government is doing something about it and you can see me with the ministries of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed and Women Affairs Development, Pauline Tallen.

From now onward, national partnership with every stakeholder is what we are going into now and not only within the country but within the subregion.

We have to partner with organizations that are involved in this. We know we have been working seriously with UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) and other civil society organizations. So just to tell you that government is doing something seriously to curtailed this type of offense”’he said

However, reacting to the incident on her social media pages,Kemi Olunloyo has questioned the sudden death of Ibidun Ighodalo, wife of Ituah Ighodalo, senior pastor of Trinity House Church, said the death of the Elizabeth R boss was either a suicide or murder.

According to her: “Ibidun Ighodalo just became my online friend this February 2020. She said she had a foundation, always checking on me in IG DM. I have screenshots. Why will her Instagram page be deactivated by anyone?
@PoliceNG must Investigate how she DIED in a hotel room

There is a wave of poisoning deaths all over Nigeria. Pure nonsense! The Niger Delta Commission guy was also poisoned. Did someone poison her in the hotel? I want to know her last meal, @Facebook legal dept will tell us what time her IG was deactivated and from what location".
Nigerians from all walks of life demands through investigation that led to her sudden death.
Blogger Stella Dimokokorkus also wrote “Ibidun was a sister to everyone who came her way,she had so much love to give and gave it. She lived her life like an open book and shared her struggles with everyone. This is not the time to ask us to let you mourn in private. Tell us what happened to our Ibidun so that we can find closure from this shocking departure. How did Ibidun die? Who was there?how????i am not buying the story being peddled about alleged cardiac arrest. Nah!!! Postndelete”

Oge wrote “How did even arrive at cardiac arrest without an autopsy? Why was her social media pages deactivated? Something is not right, I agree with you…this is a bitter pill to swallow mbok”

Ada Glory wrote “Husband said he got the shocking news at around 2am … who made the call ? .. tot by that time she should be alone in her hotel room since she was in ph working… lots of questions. What did she eat before going to bed ? Who served her? By now i feel the hotel should be under lock & serious investigation”

Meanwhile reacting to her death, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo has said:

There must be NO COVER UP in her death. Wanna see her autopsy. 41yo women do have cardiac arrest SECONDARY to what though? To deactivate a page then cardiac arrest signifies SUICIDE, other way around MURDER. @PoliceNG get to work
@GovWike pls open an investigation

The hotel in Port Harcourt needs to be SEALED as a potential crime scene. The entire kitchen staff & management need to be detained and interviewed on what she ate before that cardiac arrest. Someone died in there. SHE MUST NOT be buried YET!

Ibidun Ighodalo’s family needs to be interrogated on who ran her Instagram pages. The Nurudeen Lawal guy who travelled with her to PH must be detained for questioning.

Did he run the foundation page along with her? Why isn’t an obituary posted on that page.” she concluded.

Although the deactivated Instagram page has now been re-activated after many asked questions.

EXPARTRAITES ARE ABOVE THE LAW IN NIGERIA: LAGOS WOMAN SAYS HER LIFE IS NO LONGER SAVE

Victoria Marcus, mother of two, who was allegedly assaulted by her German neighbour, Knoop Jens, has called on the federal and Lagos State governments to come to her aid as her life is no longer safe.

It was gathered that Jens and his lover, Ehehiye Marayah, had on December 16, 2018, attacked Marcus and stabbed her in her left palm after she complained about a contribution in their estate in the Apapa area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that after Victoria reported the incident at the Trinity Police Station, the lovers were charged but the matter was stalled due to the lockdown imposed on the state by the Federal Government as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 44-year-old Victoria alleged that despite the fact that the matter was in court, the couple had continued to verbally and physically attack her.

She alleged that on June 5, 2020, the lovers and a yet-to-be-identified accomplice ran into her at a pub in the estate, insulted her, smashed her phone, assaulted and almost strangled her, adding that she was rescued by her husband and the estate security guards.

Narrating her ordeal, Victoria stated, “My husband is an expatriate, who works with a company in Nigeria. We have been married for 15 years and we live in an estate in Apapa designated for the staff members of the company.

“My travail started on December 16, 2018, when I went to the estate’s restaurant to have a plate of pepper soup. Some few neighbours and I met and were having a conversation. One of them complained that people contributed money for picnic and when they got there, they didn’t have food to eat. I called the attention of Jens’ lover to the matter, because the picnic held at their beach house. She flared up and started ranting.

“Jens, who was not too far from the table where we sat, came close and on hearing about the matter, became violent. He picked a bottle, broke it and was heading in my direction, but the people there stopped him.

“I wanted to run but fell. He rushed to me and wanted to stab me in the abdomen, but I covered my abdomen with my left hand and he stabbed me in my palm. He wanted to grab my neck, but a neighbour rescued me.

“I reported the incident at the Trinity Police Station. Three months into the investigation, Jens sent people to me to ask how much I wanted; he never came to say he was sorry for what he did, so I refused his financial offer, because I want justice. I know a Nigerian cannot go to his country and do the same.

“Jens also wrote a petition to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad alleging that I was the one who sent a four-man gang to attack him. The case was transferred to the SCIID, and upon the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, the case was charged in August 2019. ”

Victoria added that the lockdown stalled the case and brought more trouble for her because whenever Jens and his lover set eyes on her, they would start abusing her.

She stated, “However, on June 5, 2020, my husband and I went to the staff pub within the estate and we met Jens and Marayah there. I walked to the fridge to get drinks, while my husband got a space for us. Marayah walked up to me and started another session of insults, but I choose not to answer her and concentrated on the drinks I came to pick.

“I want the Nigerian government to come to my aid. My life is being threatened by these foreigners.”

When contacted, Jens refuted the claims of Marcus, but refused further comments on the matter.

He said, “Victoria is a lair; there is nothing to talk about; she was the one, who attacked me. I don’t know why she’s going this far.

“The matter is in court and I don’t want anything I say to be used against me in court or have any problem with the police.”
