LAGOS STATE SEALS 10 PRIVATES SCHOOL FOR FLOUTING CLOSURE DIRECTIVE

The Lagos state government has sealed ten private schools in the state for flouting the closure directive from the Federal and state governments on schools in the wake of the pandemic.

 

The Lagos State Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, on Friday, July 3, disclosed this during the second and third phase of the massive monitoring of private schools' compliance to the directive to curb the spread of the pandemic in the country and the world at large.

 

According to her, a large number of private schools visited across the state were found to have complied while the non-compliant schools were sealed. The DG did not, however, mention the names and locations of the defaulting schools.

 

    “No doubt, COVID-19 has had a negative effect on our schools but we want students to come out stronger and better.

    We want to make sure schools are closed. We also want to make sure schools are adhering to the closure directive since the number of COVID-19 infections has increased dramatically over time. This is a unique time in the entire world, therefore, it is only the living that learns.” she said

 

Seriki-Ayeni warned of the danger inherent in the exposure and clustering of students in a class in the name of tutorials. She reiterated that any school found operating, while trying to beat government scrutiny without concern for the health and safety of pupils would be sealed.

CHINESE COUPLE ENSLAVES NGERIANS IN NIGERIA~~THEY LOCKED-UP STAFF FOR PAST FOUR MONTHS

A Chinese couple in Abuja has been arrested for for allegedly locking up their Nigerian employees in their apartment for the past four months.

According to reports, the domestic staff were rescued by the personnel of the Utako Divisional Police Station on Tuesday following a tip-off by a resident, who reported the incident to the Human Rights radio station.

The police raided the residence of the Chinese in the Jabi area of Abuja and took the unidentified couple and their domestic employees to the station.

A lady, who did not give her name, said the domestic workers were not allowed to move out of the building and that the couple refused to allow her to go for treatment when she took ill.
She stated, “When I was seriously sick, I asked these people (Chinese employers) to open the gate for me, but they refused until I became very angry before they opened the door. I know my life may be at risk but I don’t mind, let the world know what is happening.


“They told us that if someone was going out, he could help buy something for us, but when this man (referring to a colleague) went out to buy sachet water, they deducted his salary. What do they want us to do?

“We had to stay in the room and talk to people through the windows. They didn’t give us food; apart from the salary, they didn’t give us anything; they even cut our salaries.”

The driver of the Chinese, who simply identified himself as Alex, stated that, “They never allowed us to go out since February; if any of us went out and they know, a certain percentage of the person’s salary would be deducted.

“Even on Monday when this man (pointing at one of his co-workers) sent someone to buy water, N500 was deducted from his salary that has yet to be paid.”

Another worker said the couple deducted N3,000 from his salary because he went out to fill his pension form.

FRAUDSTERS HUSHPUPPI AND WOODBERRY EXTRADITES TO UNITED STATES

Nigerian fraudster, Raymond Abbas Igbalode aka Hushpuppi and his co-fraud gang, Olakekan Jacob aka Woodberry have been extradited to the United States.

Dubai Police made this known in a statement released via its official Twitter account on Thursday.


According to the statement, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, Christopher Wray also praised the exceptional efforts made by the Dubai Police General HQ, in arresting the duo and bringing them to book.

“The Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, Christopher Wray has praised the exceptional efforts made by the United Arab Emirate, represented by the Dubai Police General HQ, in combating transnational organized cybercrime including the recent arrest of Raymond Igbalode Abbas, known as “Hushpuppi” and Olalekan Jacob Ponle known as “Woodberry” who were taken down in operation “Fox hunt 2”.

“He also extends his appreciations to Dubai Police for their cooperation in extraditing the wanted criminals, who committed money laundering and multiple cybercrimes, to the United States,” the statement read.

The Dubai Police arrested the two wanted fraudsters, “Hushpuppi” and “Woodberry” along with ten African cybercriminals in a special operation dubbed “Fox Hunt 2”.

Hushpuppi who was arrested with 12 others for online fraud targeting companies and individuals was being questioned by prosecutors at the Bur Dubai section.

The prosecutors also charged him for “obtaining money from others through fraudulent means.”

COVID-19: 193 ALMAJIRIS TESTED POSITIVE IN KANO STATE

 
 Kano State Commissioner of Education, Sanusi Mohammed Kiru , on Thursday, July 2, disclosed that a total of 1860 'Almajiris'were quarantined in three locations in the state, out of which 193 of them tested positive.

 

Sanusi who is also the head of the state government’s committee on the rehabilitation of almajiris, explained that 86 of them tested positive at Gabasawa Quarantine camp, 68 tested positive in Karaye while 38 tested positive in Kiru.

 

He expressed happiness at the initiative to isolate the almajiris in the state, adding that state efforts at tackling the dreaded disease would have been worse off if they were allowed to continue to spread the disease in these communities.

 

He recalled that so far the state has repatriated a total of 1183 Almajirs to the rest of the states in the region such as Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, and Zamfara States in line with the decision of the Northern Governors forum to end street begging in the region.

 

He further disclosed that the state government had established three almajiri boarding schools for the immediate admission of the Almajiris of Kano State orIgin, saying that these schools are located in Bunkure, Bagwai and Madobi Local Government Areas.

STREET HAWKER RAPED WHILE SELLING GIVES BIRTH TO TRIPLETS

 A 20-year-old street hawker ,named Nkechi Ezenwa, from Umuna Ubommiri in Mbaitoli LGA, Imo State, was allegedly raped while selling her products, has given birth to triplets .

According to her, she was raped while selling bananas and she got pregnant.



On June 14, 2020, she went into labour and was rushed to the nearest health center in her neighbourhood.



Ezenwa said she was delivered of a baby boy at the health center. After her son was born, they discovered there were more babies and she needed to be operated on.



She was rushed to another hospital where two more babies were delivered via caesarean section.




Unfortunately, she hasn't been able to clear her medical bills and she reached out to well-meaning Nigerians to assist her financially.



Facebook user, Chidiebube Okeoma shared her story on the platform with details of the hospital where the babies were born and how people can donate.

A 32- year- old housewife named Halima Umar,on Wednesday morning, July 1, in Tella, a village in Gassol local government area of Taraba state.  amputate her husband penis.  
 

The younger brother of the victim, Usman Umar said his elder brother Aliyu Umar was sleeping in the same room with his first wife, Halima when she woke up about 2 am and cut off his penis.

Usman further stated that Halima is the first wife of his brother and there have been serious crises between Halima and her husband since he took a second wife about three years ago.

 

"Halima had continued to engage my brother and his new wife in fights since their marriage about three years ago," he said.

 

Usman said the victim was rushed from Tella, about 105 kilometers from the headquarters, to the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo for medical attention. He was then referred from FMC Jalingo to the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe, a neighbouring state.

 

Halima was immediately arrested by the police in Tella village and transferred to the police divisional headquarters in Mutum-Biyu in Gassol local government.

 

Halima has a baby boy and she is currently expecting another child.
