PHOTO: COUPLE WHO SPECIALIZE IN SELLING CHILDREN ARRESTED BY POLICE

Detectives attached to Ibafo Police Station, Ogun State, have arrested a husband and wife  for  allegedly selling children stolen from Lagos and Oyo states.

The suspects, Morenike and Shittu, were arrested at Mosafote, Unity Road, Ogun State.
The couple’s neighbours were said to have become suspicious a few months ago after Morenike brought a child to the home in the evening and left the following day with the child.
She was said to have done this on four different occasions, before she was caught with a four-year-old girl. The girl was later found to have been abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Residents further claimed that Morenike, whenever she abducted children in Ogun State, takes them to Oyo State, and if it was Lagos she stole the children, she would move to Oyo State, to sell them.
It was gathered that neighbours started to closely monitor Morenike after she brought in a four-year-old girl around 9pm Sunday last week.

She had strapped the abducted girl to her back and was leaving the neighborhood on Monday morning, when a community leader, Chief Toyeeb Balogun, confronted her.

He said: "People have been saying that Iya Ahmed (Morenike) used to bring strange children into the community in the evening and take them away the following day. On October 8, she came in with a girl of about four-year-old. The girl looked malnourished. The next day, she left home with the girl and didn’t return with her.

“After that incident, some neighbours reported to the Baale. He told them to start monitoring her. Around 12pm on Sunday, some residents came to call me that they saw her leaving the community with another girl. I rushed to meet and asked her about the identity of the girl. She said the girl was her sister’s child. She said her sister lives at Egbeda. We took her to the palace. When we got there, she told the Baale that the girl’s mother was in Ipaja. We then took her to FSARS office in Warewa. Her husband came to the station and told the police that she usually brought girls from Ilorin, Kwara State.

“They asked him what the children were used for, he said he did not know. Both of them have been detained. This is the fifth time Morenike would be seen with an unknown child.”

The landlady of the apartment where the detained couple live, alleged that Morenike had been arrested twice for similar crimes of stealing and selling children, but was released.

The Baale, Chief  Sakiru Ademuyiwa, said that Morenikeji was asked to call the parents of the girl on the telephone, but she didn’t.

Ademuyiwa explained that he decided to involve the police in the case after the alleged parents did not show up.

Ademuyiwa added:  "She called somebody who claimed to be the mother of the girl. The person said she live in Ipaja, Lagos. I asked her to come to my palace with the father of the girl. I waited for several hours, but the so-called parents did not show up. When she was further interrogated by the police, she said the parents of the girl were in Ijebu. When the abducted child was questioned about her parents, she said they live in Agodi, Ibadan. She said her father’s name is TK. I have told the police to handle the matter very well.”

When contacted the Ogun  State Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) ASP, Abimbola Oyeyemi promised to get back to our correspondent on the matter.

A birthday is an occasion when a person  celebrates the anniversary of their birth. Birthdays are celebrated in numerous cultures, often with a gift, party and encomium from families and friends....There is a different between birthday and birth-date, while the former occurs each year, the latter is the exact date a person was born.

My big sister ( Anty mi Agba), mum, friend, confidant and my mentor celebrated her birthday yesterday, as usual in her modest way. My sister is an Ijebu woman to the core,an entrepreneur and a  technocrat of good standing. She is very hard working and always smiling even when she is angry angry.

I remember when we were young, anytime we lied to my sister, she will look at your face and tell you "so miin", that is 'say something else', in this way, you are bound to say the truth!

My sister is " beautiful, warm, kind, generous, a role model in her career, her marriage, her motherhood and life in general. When I get tired of trying, all I have to do is look to her example to get the courage to keep going.

Intelligent as she is, she's never afraid of hard work. While studying for her Masters degree in the UK she took on all sorts of jobs to ensure she sent goodies to us back home. At Director level at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), she still had her thriving business on the side which kept us all busy during the holidays! Any form of laziness from us was chased out quickly with some major 'abaras' from her ever ready palms!

Mummy, here's wishing you a very Happy Birthday! I love you and truly appreciate you. Thank you for all your sacrifices and care. Thank you for being an example for us your kids and the many more who see you as their mother. Only God can bless and reward you. May your new year be very blessed!"

THE STUPENDOUS RICH WORLD OF KIDNAPPERS IN NIGERIA

Easy money, easy women, exotic cars, landed property are part of what characterized the world of kidnappers in Nigeria. Indeed, kidnappers are now being counted among the richest in Nigeria and are ‘Lords of the Manors’ in their communities.

Since the Niger Delta militants started kidnapping of expatriates, in order to highlight their grievances against the government, so many states borrowed a leaf from them. This was after it became clear that kidnapping was one of the cheapest ways of being catapulted into wealth.
After the Niger Delta militants were given amnesty, it because clear that many of them were stupendously rich, and some even became persons and voices to be reckoned with in Nigeria.
This seems to make it appear like kidnapping pays. Militia kidnappers, alleged to be from Niger Delta regions, are slowly taking over Nigeria.
Even as other crimes are reducing, kidnapping is surging and appears to be galloping out of control. Criminals, who are into other crimes, are taking to kidnapping on the sideline.

According to security experts’, kidnapping continues to snowball because; it’s quite easier and appears safer than robbery. Bank robberies entail a lot of work and manpower. Criminals going for bank robberies know they may have to contend with armed mobile policemen or soldiers, attached to the targeted financial institutions.
In kidnapping, the fewer members, the better. Also, another factor that contributes to the continual upsurge is that kidnappers can grab victims, anywhere, any day and anywhere.
In robberies, especially with the introduction of ATM cards, robbers are not certain of getting any return for their efforts in attacking homes. They often end up with phones, laptops and jewelry.
In kidnapping, no matter the status of the person kidnapped, the kidnappers would be sure to get some money.

Just as fast as the money comes into the possessions of these kidnappers, so also they fritter it away. They know that just another kidnap or major kidnaps, would replenish spent income. Those of them that bother to think of the future, buy cars and landed property.
The suspected kidnapper, Saidu Abdullahi, who killed the Catholic Priest, Reverend John Alex Adeyi (Ph.D.) in Benue State and abandoned his corpse inside the bush, said: “The family of the catholic priest paid N2m ransom. I got N750, 000 as my share. I used it to build four rooms apartment in my village, Bauchi State.”
Today, Nigerians are living in perpetual fear, afraid of taking a walk down the streets, worried that they could swoop upon by kidnappers.
Three kidnappers, Mr. Samson Shomorin, Olalekan Benjamin and Gbenga Sholaja are graduates of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State.
Shomorin said they joined kidnapping because they couldn’t get an employment after the National Youth Service Corps.

A police Corporal Paul Ibara should have been protecting kids from kidnappers; instead he became a kidnapper. He kidnapped his neighbour’s four-year-old son and demanded N5 m ransom.
He confessed to have taken to kidnapping because his father needed money for a surgery.
Patrick Onyeka, 24, in 2013, kidnapped his neighbour’s son, Ayuba.  He said he kidnapped the little boy because he wanted to get his hands on some money. He demanded N5 m as ransom.
Onyeka said he came up with the kidnapping of Ayuba because he needed quick money. He knew Ayba’s dad works in an oil company and has about four to five cars.

A relative of three kids that were kidnapped in Lagos State and later released after payment of ransom, Mr. Olujimi Bolade, said: “The present government should address unemployment as a national emergency. Many families have graduates without jobs. That’s one of the reasons crimes are increasing.”

The Chief Executive Officer, consultant of Zenith Intelligence and Security Solution, Limited, Mr. Ethelbert Onuoha Oney, explains the upsurge in kidnapping thus: “Hunger, unemployment, discrimination, oppression, suppression, recession, disappointment, amongst other needs have increased over the years. The law enforcement agencies are doing their best to unravel this crime, but there is one fact that remains indisputable. You cannot give what you don't have. There are certain special skills and training which are available to developed countries' law enforcement agencies, which are not available to the Nigerian law enforcement agencies. And even if some of the officers are sent overseas to acquire these skills and training, they’ll go there to do shopping because of lack of oversight in our system.”
Oney said that another reason for the upsurge in kidnapping is corruption.

His words: “When a suspect is apprehended, if his boss comes up with N5m or there about, for bail. Our law enforcement agencies lack specific profiling and interrogative skills such as behavioral analysis and body language interpretation mechanisms. They should be exposed to modern technologies; so that they would be able to profile suspects after crimes have been committed. It’s called reactive investigation.”
He said that law enforcement agents should be patriotic and not pursue selfish interest alone. He said that unemployment, discrimination, suppression, and hunger should be tackled from above.

Oney added: “Our law enforcement agencies should be able to protect witnesses of the crime and their families. Generally, there is also a common belief among victims of this crime that there is absolute, inability of the judiciary system to combat this crime appropriately. This is supported by the media accounts of new tragedies or upsurge caused by this crime.”

S3X SCANDAL ROCKS OGUN STATE COLLEGE OF HEALTH TECH. ILESE-IJEBU

There is a sex scandal currently rocking the Ogun State College of Health Technology in Ilese Ijebu involving a lecturer of the school, Dr Oluseyi Adu and a Dental student of the school identified as Mosunmola.

Acording to reports, Dr Oluseyi who is the Oral Health Coordinator for the college, had sexual relations with Mosunmola in August last year.  Nine months after, Mosunmola is heavy with a child she claims is his.

The lecturer has owned up to having sex with Mosunmola but said that he used a condom when they had sex.

According to Mosunmola, Dr Oluseyi had been lecturing her since her 100 level but she did not fail his course until when she was in 300 level. She went to his office to inquire how she failed his course and he allegedly told her that she cannot just come into the school like that without him having sexual relations with her.

According to Mosunmola, Dr Oluseyi allegedly told her that he had interest in her while she was in 100 level but he backed out because a fellow lecturer had signified interest in her. She said the other lecturer had told her back then that she will either pay him money to pass his exams or give in to his sexual advances. Mosunmola says it was important for her to pass the course Dr Oluseyi failed her in because it would stop her from writing her board exams. She gave into his request and agreed to date him.

Oluseyi helped her get a waiver for the course from the department and then asked her to come over to a hotel where she would spend the night with him. At the hotel, she met another lecturer with another female student. Mosunmola says they had three rounds of sex while at the hotel. She stated that Oluseyi used condoms during two rounds but the last round was without any condom.

Mosunmola noticed she was pregnant few weeks after and told the Lecturer who gave her a drug, Eprostol, to abort the pregnancy. Mosunmola said she refused to take the drug and that one time when he came by her house to persuade her to abort the pregnancy, they finished their discussion and had sex in her house.

Dr Oluseyi started withdrawing from her and would not take her calls. She informed the HOD, Dean and other staff who tried to persuade him to take responsiblity for the child and cater for her but he refused to take responsibility. She then approached the Human Rights Office of the Ogun state Ministry of Justice who mediated and was able to get Oluseyi to pay her N5,000 monthly stipend and N7000 for antenatal registration. He however stopped paying after two months.

Dr Oluseyi has however denied Mosunmola's claim. According to him, it was Mosunmola who seduced him and lured him into having sexual relations with her. He said he has informed his wife and that at this point, nothing can make him ashamed again as his reputation has already been smeared by the scandal.

Meanwhile Mosunmola is expected to give birth anytime soon. Oluseyi says he awaits the birth of the child so that the paternity of the child can be determined via a DNA test.

IMAM,WIFE AND 4 CHILDREN MURDERED IN IJEBU-ODE !

A Muslim cleric,Sheik Yusuf Amzat-Salam , 35, his wife and four children were killed by hoodlums suspected to be herdsmen in the early hours of Tuesday in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun. The incident occurred at Atiba area of Odogbolu Local Government Area. The eldest child, a girl, was aged 11, followed by her twin brothers, aged 8 and the last female child, aged 2.

All the victims had since been buried according to Muslim rites amid wailing. The attackers, whose motive could not be ascertained, butchered the entire household with machetes. The victims were discovered in the pool of their blood when school bus came to pick the children.

A close family friend, Mr Yusuf Oludaisi, described the act as dastardly and wicked, wondering what the victim must have done to warrant such treatment. “He was someone whom we grew up together. I have known him for 30 years to be humble and kind to everyone who came across his path. “It’s really sad because this was someone you will never see quarrelling or being disrespectful”, said Oludaisi.

The younger brother of the victim, Alfa Ishaaq Amzat-Salam, however, said he would leave the matter for God to judge. “I leave those who perpetrated such evil into God’s hands for He alone will judge them. The deed cannot be undone. “I will always remember my brother forever for his loving kindness as he was a shining light to us all”, said Ishaaq.

Ex-Senator Gbenga Kaka (Ogun East), who was at the burial of the victims, described the incident as very sad. “I am a close friend to the father of the victim and when I heard what happened, I was in bitter shock. “It is unimaginable what these people did and it brings much sadness to my heart. I don’t even have the words to describe it”, said Kaka.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in Ogun, Bimbola Oyeyemi, said the command was aware of the incident. “We are already doing all to investigate and apprehend the culprit”, he said. Sympathisers described the cleric as a peace-loving, humble and caring individual.
