CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA(CAN) VS ORO CULT...AWOLOWO URGED TO MEDIATE

Ogun State chapter, of Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN),through their Chairman, Reverend Timothy Ajibola, led the state council members on a courtesy call on Yeye Oodua at the Awolowo residence, Ikenne, on Wednesday. and urged her to mediate in the problem experienced by Christians in Ikenne and Ogun State in general.
Ajibola said “We’re here on a courtesy visit to Mama HID Awolowo and also wish to seek your intervention following our peoples’ experience in the hands of Oro traditionalists in Ikenne and other areas in the state.
“It has got to a level that as a Christian body, we need to speak out if a non-governmental body or group of people could just wake up one day and declare curfew in the land. We believe that apart from government, notable and credible people like you should be called upon to intervene in the matter.’’
He added that “We have seen in some cases when Oro traditional worshippers would attack some churches and take their drums to their shrine.’’ Rev. Ajibola accused the Oro traditionalist that,’’  On a particular day, precisely on an Easter day, they declared a curfew barring Christians from going to church.’’
He went further to say “Ma, we want to implore you to help us appeal to the government to prevent this incidence from metamorphosing into a war so as not to destroy some of the legacies left by Papa Awolowo. Nigeria is a multi-religious entity where everyone is free to practise his/her religion without hindering one another.’’
“Some of us here today are testimonies of Awolowo’s legacies, especially peace in public administration popularised by the sage himself.
“Again, as a religious body, we strongly condemn girl-child marriage in Ogun State and Nigeria at large. We are also against the high rate of indiscipline in Nigeria today. As men of God, we have resolved in our own little way to use our positions as spiritual leaders to influence our political office holders in various areas that we have connections,” Ajibola said.
Chief Awolowo  in her reaction said “all that Nigeria is facing today require prayers. Let’s take the case of ASUU strike as an example. No parent in this country will say he/she is happy with this development, but we can’t blame anybody because as long as we try to say who should do what, we tend to realise that only prayers can solve it.” and she told the delegate  that “some of your men(Christian) from Ikenne can testify to my efforts at resolving the issue, God Himself will take control.”
“I always love to associate with God’s disciples and it is my prayer that God Himself will give us the grace  to reign with him in heaven’s he said.
