CULTURE AND TOURISM:'IGBOMOKU' (IJEBU-IFE) AN ANCIENT COMMUNITY THAT UNIFORM PERSONNEL CANNOT ENTER

Ijebu-Ife in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State is part of Ijebu communities inhabit the South-Central part of Yorubaland - a territory that is bounded in the North by Ibadan, in the East by Ondo, Okitipupa and the West by Egbaland. The Southern fringe is open to the sea with the coastlines of Epe, Ejinrin and Ikorodu, Nigeria. History of this town has been scanty because it was ritually decreed, in earlier times of its founding, that the history of the town must not be told.

There is a small community located within Ijebu Ife Township called ‘IGBOMOKU’, that since the inception of the town, no uniform personnel, be it Police, Navy, Army , Prison official,Immigration officials,Civil Defence, etc;dares not  wear their uniform into this particular community ! This is a fact. If you doubt my story, take a trip to Ijebu -Ife to inquire about this from the Ajalorun of Ijebu-Ife. Oba Adesesan Oguntayo,FCA.

According to Alaiyeluwa Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, he put it on record that “prior to the advent of colonial rule, the administration of Ijebu, then known as the Ijebu ‘nation’, was firmly under the authority of the Awujale. By the time I got into office in 1960, there were only a few Obas in position in Ijebuland and the notable ones among them are the Dagburewe of Idowa, Ajalorun of Ijebu Ife, Orimolusi of Ijebu-Igbo, Lenuwa of Ode-Omi, Akija of Ikija, Onipe of Ibuarijan, Olowu of Owu-Ijebu, Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye and Oloko of Ijebu Mushin. THESE WERE THE SENIOR OBAS UNDER THE AWUJALE”.
