WITH LOVE FROM BELGIUM: 'ISIS' CHOCOLATE CHANGES NAME TO 'LIBEERT' DUE TO ITS NAME ASSOCIATED WITH TERRORIST GROUP

The Belgium chocolate maker "ISIS Chocolates" known for its family tradition and expertise chocolates made from 100% cocoa butter has changed its name to "Libeert" after the company experienced a slump in sales due to its name association with the Islamic terrorist group

It is interest to know that the Belgian chocolate maker, which was founded as ‘Italo Suisse’ in 1923, changed its name from Italo Suisse, to ISIS late last year because the company no longer had any real association with either country. Now it's changing the name again to "Libeert   because ISIS, of course, is also the acronym derived from Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, the jihadist group that arose in the Syrian civil war and now has invaded parts of Iraq.

Desiree Libeert, ," marketing manager told Reuters by telephone on Thursday. "Had we known there was a terrorist organization with the same name, we would have never chosen that.
"We had international customers saying that they could no longer stock our chocolate as consumers had only negative associations with the name," Libeert said.
