International Police,
Benin Republic, has arrested the man who killed his live-in-lover on Christmas
day at the Festac area of Lagos State and disappeared.
The suspect, Monday
Hounga, 28, was arrested on December 31, 2015, at about 11:45am by
Nigeria/Benin Joint patrol and handed over to Nigerian Police, the State
Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos State. He
was handed to Nigerian Police, on January 1, 2016.
Hounga is however denying
being responsible for the murder of his girlfriend. Fielding questions from
detectives, Hounga said he and his lover, Cecilia Joseph, 21, were attacked and
stabbed by armed robbers.
The suspect, on Christmas
day, was said to have stabbed Joseph to death and bolted to Benin Republic.
A resident, who pleaded
anonymity, said the lovers quarreled for over an hour and later resorted to
fighting after Joseph received a phone call from another man in front of her
lover, Monday.
After the call, Joseph
wanted to go out, but Monday ordered her not to. He felt she was going out to
meet the caller. Joseph ignored the order and allegedly went to have a date
with the caller. This apparently infuriated Hounga.
When Joseph returned, the
lovers embarked on another round of fighting. The fight was said to have lasted
till midnight. Joseph allegedly picked a kitchen knife and stabbed Monday
in the stomach. Monday immediately grabbed the knife and stabbed Joseph in the
neck. She reportedly died on the spot.
A resident however told
police that she saw when Hounga was stabbing Joseph.
A police source said: “A
neighbour said that she saw the suspect stabbing the victim. When people tried
to stop him, he threatened he would stab them too. He is however denying
stabbing the victim. He said armed robbers attacked them. It’s clear that he
had been coached on what to say.”
Warming to his theme that
armed robbers attacked them, Hounga showed the wound located on his upper
abdomen.
Meanwhile, the stab wounds
on Joseph’s body were many. She was stabbed on the body, arm, neck and abdomen.
