BREAKING NEWS: ALIYU GUSAU RESIGNED AS MINISTER OF DEFENCE

General Aliyu Gusau (Rtd) has resigned his appointment as Minister of Defence. It was gathered that the sudden decision to quit President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet arose when the service chiefs refused to meet him in a schedule familiarisation meeting, which the former minister considered an act of insubordination and indiscipline from Nigeria’s top military brass.

According to SaharaReporters,’ Nigeria’s top military henchmen kept Mr. Gusau waiting for two days after he summoned them to a meeting, with different military service chiefs making excuses for their inability to meet with him and his deputy immediately. Finally, the situation turned testy yesterday when, after keeping Mr. Gusau and Mr. Obanikoro waiting for several hours, the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, showed up alone for a meeting.’

‘When Air Marshal Badeh showed up, the Minister of Defence told him he was expecting all the chiefs of staff within the military, but Badeh reportedly told him there was no need,” said one source at the ministry. Our sources added that Badeh also told Mr. Gusau that he alone would be meeting with the minister as the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), stating that this arrangement was the collective decision of military officers in the country.’

‘One source said an attempt by the junior minister of defence, Mr. Obanikoro, to intervene was rudely brushed aside as Badeh asked him to “shut up.” “Air Marshal Badeh is said to have called Senator Obanikoro a ‘small boy’ and warned him that the military was not going to be taking orders anymore from bloody civilians like him,” one source stated’.

Moreover, it was learnt that after the altercation, General Gusau (rtd) reportedly ended the meeting and asked the Permanent Secretary in the ministry to transmit his letter of resignation to President Goodluck Jonathan.

AN OLD SOLDIER COMMITTED SUICIDE IN IJEBU-IMUSHIN

The question in the mouth of many residents of Itamogiri, Ijebu-Imushin, on Sunday was that, what prompted this ‘old soldier’ to commit suicide!

A retired soldier from the Nigerian Army, name unknown, but referred to as ‘old soldier’  was on Sunday night suspected to have committed suicide at the open space at the back of his house in Itamogiri, Ijebu-Imusin in the Ijebu East Local Government of Ogun State.

According to the source, the deceased man was an Isoko man from Delta State State, was said to be living alone without his wife but his grown up children do visit him regularly.

However, a day before the incident, it was gathered that one of his children came to visit him and gave him some money with a promise that his siblings have decided to buy him a motor bike to use for commercial purpose.

On the day of the unfortunate incident, it was told that the other tenants in the house had gone for the yearly Ebibi Festival and the man was alone in the house,; it was when they came back they found his body hung on a tree at the back of the house.

Moreover, some people believed there was foul play as a critical look at the dead man does not portray that of a man who hung himself.
We on ‘Blog with fury’ suggest that the Ogun state police command should look into this issue critically.

WHY WE DECIDED TO REVIVE SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY...FALAE

Former Finance Minister, Chief Olu Falae has given reasons why himself along with leaders of some other political parties decided to revive the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the political party on whose back the late Chief Moshood Abiola won the controversial June 12 1993 elections.
Falae said that since many Nigerians had experienced firsthand the impact of the SDP during the military era and accepted it as a party for all Nigerians, they decided that such a platform will be a better alternative to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), the two parties that he said have not shown Nigerians that they have the ability to address their problems.
The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and presidential candidate of the coalition, All Peoples Party (APP) and the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the 1999 elections, noted that they revived the SDP to be a third force in the nation’s political environment.
Falae who spoke in Lagos said, “What happened was that 15 political parties on their own came together and came to me to come and lead them. I told them that I tried a mega party without success in the last four years, they said no, that this time they are serious, we have since then revived the SDP, the SDP of Abiola, the party that won the Senate, House of Reps, 22 states out of 30, that SDP is back today.”
“The ban placed on it by the military has been removed, now we are a registered political party in Nigeria since April this year, very soon we will be launching it. We think it is part of the solution to the Nigeria problem. The two ruling parties are in my own opinion the major problem, they need a third force that has won before, that has been embraced across Nigeria, that will continue to bridge all the division in Nigeria, be it religious, sectional or regional, that is the Social Democratic Party, it is part of the solution to our problems.”
Falae who also used the opportunity to speak on how best to eradicate corruption, which he said is setting Nigeria back among the comity of nation, from the system, urged political leaders to take charge of the affairs of their state and the nation.

He said, “For you to effective fight corruption, it is for whoever is the head, either at the local government level, the state or the federal level to be transparent, you don’t need to preach a sermon, it is left for the ministers to know that oga no go gree, they will take their cue.” “I was Managing Director of a bank from 1981 to 1986, I want to thank God that not a single case of fraud happened during my tenure, because I called my officers into my office and said, I retired as a permanent secretary from the Federal Civil Service, this jobhttp://cdncache1-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png I am doing is a transitional job before I finally retire, so there will be zero tolerance for corruption, stealing and bribe taking here, if you take bribe I will not only get you sacked I will send you to jail. Nobody took a bribe in the five years; no fraud in that bank for five years, after I left fraud came,: he said.
