MAJEK FASHEK: WILL NIGERIANS ALLOW THIS GUY TO DIE AS A DRUG ADDICT?

Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as Majek Fashek, is a Nigerian reggae singer, song writer and guitarist. Majek was born in Benin city, Edo state, Nigeria.

Majek first gained national fame on a television show in the early 1980s as a member of Benin-based reggae group Jastix-this included Ras Kimono and Amos McRoy Gregg. In 1988, shortly after Jastix disbanded, he began a solo career, his song "Send Down The Rain" was a hit that catapulted him and quickly became the best-known reggae artist in Nigeria.

This award winning artist has recorded several albums for various labels such as, Tabansi Records,  CBS Nigeria , Island Records' Mango imprint, Interscope Records ,Flame Tree, and Coral.

The ‘Rainmaker’ who was described by Farber Jim, News, on 19 January 1992 thus: "Ziggy may be Bob Marley's biological son, but Majek Fashek is his spiritual heir. In terms of vocal tone, Fashek is Marley's spitting image...." is now the caricature of handsome Majek Fashek of the 90s’ we all knew then.

The question that is begging for an answer now is that are we just going to be looking and allow this great star to die as a drug addict and at the end a useless candle lights will then be organized by his friends and associates who at the moment doing nothing but looking at this guy going closer to grave every seconds?

Where is the PMAN, Record labels, the hang-on etc?  It is just too bad if we watch this guy to kill himself with drug. Majek Fashek is a star, a music icon, he need us more now than before, please let us come to his assistance.

LANDS AND PEOPLES : IJEBU

ONIBUDO'S HOUSE
The territory of the ijebu people is in the South-central of Yorubaland; bounded in the North by Ibadan, in the East by Ondo, Okitipupa and the west by Egbaland. The Southern fringe is opened to the sea with the coastlines of Epe, Ejinrin and Ikorodu .

The first major groups of Sudanese that came to Nigeria were led by Iwase who came to Ife several centuries before the major Sudanese immigrations under Oduduwa and Olu-Iwa, who entered the country about the same period as the Yoruba under Oduduwa.

The most important being the one on the Yoruba tradition that when Oduduwa was alive, he became partially blind sometime and consulted the Ifa priest, Agbonmiregun, with a view to finding the remedy for the ailment. Brine was recommended and Oduduwa had to send his Son, Obokun to the sea to get the sea water. Obokun wandered in vain for many years until he came to the Ijebu king for help who promptly aided him a messenger that guided him to the sea, and on his return to Ijebu he was also given some eye medications by the Ijebu King (Lewu Legusen), which on application restored the sight of Oduduwa.

Hence, the above shows that the Ijebus were in Nigeria before the main Yoruba stock as the Ijebu King being referred to was the fifth Awujale ,this historical fact have brought the known rivalry between them and the other Yoruba people. Then there is some sense in the claim that the Ijebus are senior to the Yorubas and cannot therefore accept the junior order that puts them under the Ooni of Ife and Alaafin of Oyo.

The Ijebu legend tracing their origin to Wadda thus; that the Ijebus migrated into Nigeria from Sudan.  The most obvious is the Sudanese tribal mark which, though varied, is duplicated all over Yorubaland.  In particular, the three vertical marks on both cheeks are the national marks in Ijebu.  More So, in the border between South Sudan and Ethiopia, the original language is very similar to Ijebu dialect.  Names of people such as Saba, Esiwu, Meleki (corruption of Menelik) and many others are still common in Ijebu and the South of Sudan.  Most importantly, a kind of flute which was formerly used during the coronation ceremony of the Awujale is still used in Ethiopia¬pia and South of Sudan.

The bulk of Yoruba people regard the Ijebus as peripheral Yorubas while the Ijebu themselves do not hide the fact the cohesion between them and others who call themselves central Yoruba has been the result of cultural and political interaction over the centuries.

Awujale of Ijebu-land is the rallying factor for all the Ijebus, both at home or abroad. The Ijebu are very enterprising, shrewd and business like. The ijebus are known for their business acumen which dated back to the early nineteenth century, and according to the testimony of contemporary observers of that time, a child is expected to have known the value of money and have attributes of a trader from age twelve.

The Ijebus are known to be a lively and warm people. Family ties ( EBI) are close, and relatives rely so much on each other in time of difficulty, they are equally noted for their sociability throughout the Yoruba kingdom; they work hard and celebrate well. They are known to go to the long haul to make their events memorable, borrowing in some instances if the need arises.

The systematic organization of age grade known as Regberegbes constitutes a major instrument of social cohesion and mobilization in ijebuland. These groups always come together to help one another in the event of any serious need for concerted and joint efforts

The European, in the early nineteen century described the Ijebus in following phrase: “They are remarkable as a race for their integrity to a fault”.

Ikokore or Ifokore is one of Ijebus’ most important delicacies, so whenever you visit an Ijebu person do not hesitate to ask for this menu.

Ijebus are religious people who like to talk about God. Most are Christians, Muslims, while some are traditional worshippers (Esin abalaye), be that as it may, all Ijebus always gather together to celebrate annual Ojude-Oba festival.

Some Yorubas think that Ijebus  are  stingy, love ‘owanbe’ parties, some said they were  fearsome warrior-like people that take no nonsense from anyone. Any how you think about these great people, they remain what they are .......the Ijebus.

REMINISCENCE: 1967-1970 CIVIL WAR-NEVER AGAIN IN NIGERIA

Adam Gopnik wrote that ‘Every time we tell the truth about a subject that attracts a lot of lies, we advance the sanity of the nation. Plain speech matters because when we speak clearly we are more likely to speak truth than when we retreat into slogan and euphemism; avoiding euphemism takes courage because it almost always points plainly to responsibility’.

There is a saying that no nation goes to civil war twice and survives it. This gives me a sleepless night whenever i think about my country, Nigeria. Anytime i go through Nigerian newspapers, i always see and read the tone of war!

The civil war of 1966 is fresh in my memory, i was 5 years old then, despite the fact that i didn’t knew what is the meaning of war then, i noticed that my parents were panicked all the time, they always talked in low voices, we couldn’t put on light in night, our movement were curtailed, what i can understand then was that there is ‘KOROBA-KOROBA’ in the land which i later known to be civil war.

In my parents farm then at Shasha-Olumogo, a farm settlement in present day Ijebu-East local government area of Ogun state,  then  lots of people are working as farms hand , they comprises of Ibos, Hausas,Isokos and Yorubas, but immediately the civil war began, the Ibos were no longer at ease, they always having series of meetings with my dad, thank God my dad was able to protect  majority of them until the end of the civil war, we eventually become one big family since then.

Having said the above, i will like to thank one OMAR BANGURA a Sierra Leonean who wrote the following thought provoking facts to remind us Nigerians that we are treading a path that will lead to destruction. He wrote thus:

"I don't think you guys know what you are playing with. You can call each other names and laugh about it now but when you end up inciting hate here as I read through your posts here and a real civil war start in your country you will regret what you are doing now.

Your religious and political leaders are trying to divide you between religious lines and you are helping them do that rather than standing up and say we are all Nigerians never mind our tribe, region or religion. That's the only stand that will save your blessed nation.

The foreign powers pushing the government to take certain decisions will abandon you when you start killing each other and reject you from running to their countries so be careful. Our 11 years war in Sierra Leone was not even based on religious or tribal difference and see what we did to our country.

The worst conflicts are those based on tribal and religious differences. See Central Africa, Bosnia. My heart bleeds when I read what you guys are saying bcos I know what this will lead to. You will be the losers; all of you whether Christian, Muslim, Ibo, Yoruba or Hausa stand as one and save your nation together bcos you have only one Nigerian that has the potential to lead Africa.’’

Omar Bangura spoke my mind, at least DSTV now allows Nigerian populace to view foreign channels like CNN, BBC, Al-JAZEERA etc. We do see what is still going on in Syria,Iraq, and Palestinian. The genocide that peoples of Rwanda and Burundi went through!

To be frank with all those that clamours for war, the western nation will let us down and abandon us, our country will then turns to testing ground of all sorts of ammunitions, people will die in thousands, looting and stealing will be the order of the day; those people that ignited the war will run away! The benefactors will be the mercenaries and war-contractors!

The blunder committed by Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, sometime ago when he spoke derogatorily of a section of Nigeria origin,  calling them ‘destitute, parasites and marauders’ and his  determination to destabilise Nigeria if he is ever arrested for his comments and that  Nigeria will be history , if the security ever try to arrest him!
Excerpts:
“We will match violence by violence. We will match intrigues by intrigues. We will match bullet by bullet. We will match blood by blood.
We are ready for them. Goodluck Jonathan will complete his tenure of two terms whether they (northerners) like it or not. To us, they don’t even exist because we pay them. He who pays the piper dictates the tune.” — Asari-Dokubo.

This guy dares and dented the securities (SSS, DIA, POLICE, GUGURU DEFENCE ETC) with his felony statements. If these three words ‘destitute, parasites and marauders’ are well analysed, it could trigger hatred which eventually can lead to war.  That is this guy statement is a call for war.

I am still surprise that since Asari Dokubo made these blunder statements, nothing happened! Not even an interrogation from police or SSS! In a country that has a government, and security operatives, and someone made this type of felony statements but nothing happened need a trillion Pounds questions than answers!

The likes of Asari Dokuboh will abandoned you, don’t forget that Asari Dokuboh is a multi-millionaire in dollar, having been enriched by Jonathan; he is just playing politics with peoples’ life in Nigeria.

All the legislators, both at the states and federal level, the ministers, Governors, serving or retired, all level 12 and above officers in Nigeria, even the chairmen of local government will run to Europe with their families, because they all got the visa standby!

The question then is who will then defend the defenceless? Our soldiers who cannot rescue 230 girls, how would they now secure the lives and properties of 170 millions Nigerian?
The most traumatic of it all is the post-war trauma! Rebuilding of the country, starvations, reformations, etc, etc, etc,

In my humble advise, Nigerian youths need to call the likes of Asari Dokubos  to keep quiet and allow us to build a good and egalitarian society.
