BREAKING NEWS: EBOLA CLAIMED ITS FIRST VICTIM IN NIGERIA

A Nigerian Nurse who helped in treating Ebola infected Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, is dead. News of her death was disclosed by the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu who spoke during a media briefing in Abuja. He said:

"Yesterday, 5th August, 2014, the first known Nigerian to die of the EVD was recorded and this was one of the nurses that attended to the Liberian.
The other five cases are currently being treated at the isolation ward in Lagos,”

“The 24/7 emergency operations centre will be fully functional tomorrow. It will be headed by Dr Faisal Shuaibu as the incident manager.

PATRICK SAWYER DELIBERATELY IMPORTED THE DEADLY EBOLA VIRUS TO NIGERIA

Mr. Patrick Sawyer, the Ebola infected Liberian who died in Lagos of recent, is said to have had an "indiscipline" encounter with nurses and health workers at the First Consultants Hospital in Obalende, Lagos, Nigeria where he was being treated.

According to FrontPage Africa reports, Mr. Sawyer was asked if he had come into contact with anyone who had the virus but he answered in the negative.
Doctors at the hospital decided to test him anyway and when they told him he had Ebola, he allegedly went into a rage and urinated on the health workers attending to him.

"...Upon being told he had Ebola, Mr. Sawyer went into a rage, denying and objecting to the opinion of the medical experts. “He was so adamant and difficult that he took the tubes from his body and took off his pants and urinated on the health workers, forcing them to flee."
The hospital would later report that it resisted immense pressure to let out Sawyer from its hospital against the insistence from some higher-ups and conference organizers that he had a key role to play at the ECOWAS convention in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

In fact, FrontPageAfrica has been informed that officials in Monrovia were in negotiations with ECOWAS to have Sawyer flown back to Liberia.
A text message in possession of FrontPageAfrica from the ECOWAS Ambassador in Liberia, responding to a senior official reads: Your Excellency, the disease control department of the Federal Ministry of Health just contacted me through the hospital now, insisting that Mr. Sawyer be evacuated for now. Pls advise urgently.”

FrontPageAfrica has now learnt that Sawyer exhibited similar indiscipline behaviour during his sister’s stay at the Catholic Hospital in Monrovia where she was taken because he noticed she was bleeding profusely and was later found to be a victim of Ebola.

Sawyer was seen with blood on his clothing after his sister’s death and had earlier demanded that she be placed in a private room.

President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf cited indiscipline and disrespect as a key reason why Sawyer contracted the Ebola virus. She said his failure to heed medical advice put the lives of other residents across the nation’s border at risk.

As one of the nurses who treated Sawyer died today, fears are currently being fanned in the country with some people suggesting that he might have knowingly spread the disease.

TWO ISLAMIC CLERICS CAUGHT WITH HUMAN SKULLS IN IKORODU,LAGOS STATE

Three suspected human parts dealers, Clement Omodijie and  two Islamic clerics, namely; Olasukanmi Owolabi and Usman Saliu are now helping police detectives to break the demand and supply chain of a trans-border syndicate which trades in human skulls.

The suspects were arrested recently when they were about to supply three human skulls to their buyers at Ikorodu. Omodijie, who works as a gravedigger in the cemetery, pleaded that the  he succumbed to demands for human skulls business when Olasukanmi Owolabi, claimed that he was using the ground skull to assist barren women to conceive.

“Owolabi happens to be my friend and for months, he had requested that I should assist him with human skulls instead of setting them ablaze. Initially, I told him that I do not indulge in such act but when he explained in details why he wanted the skulls, I decided to do his wish.

“Normally, after three months, we will dig out the skeletons to make space for others. In Igbogbo cemetery, there are areas that are not owned by anyone. It’s the general burial ground and it gets filled up easily. To create a room for others, we will dig up the skeleton and cremate it. What I normally do is to select the bigger ones and throw it inside the bush without the knowledge of my colleagues. I will pick them up on my way home at night”,

He claimed that since he secured the job five years ago, he had never been involved himself in the sale of human skeletons till he met Owolabi. According to him:

“I used to be a block moulder till I got this job. It was a better alternative since they were paying me N23,000 a month. I did not indulge in the act for financial gain. I was only paid N4,000 which was just given to me by Owolabi as a way to say thank you. I know that he is a herbalist and one of my relatives had once told me that ground skull can be used to make native medicine potent.”

“Besides, the skeleton belongs to no one and I felt it was being recycled. Instead of setting it ablaze, why not dedicate it for procreation. I really don’t know my crime, why police chose to punish me. I am innocent. I do not sell fresh corpse because it is an abomination. It was just like going to the garbage to select things that can still be of use and sell them. If it is a crime, I am sorry. Please, forgive me and do not allow my children to suffer unjustly “

Another suspect, Olasunkanmi Owolabi, who hails from Oyo State claimed that he learnt about the potency of human skull two years ago. His words:
“I did my Arabic studies in Kwara State 13 years ago. I used to organise prayers for people and at the end of the day, they will show appreciation. It could be for business, child bearing and so many other issues of life. For those who are sick, I will mix herbs and roots for them.In the course of my duty, I travelled to Kano and Kaduna states. Most of my colleagues taught me that I could get better in healing people especially barren women if I add a little bit of ground skull to my drugs.
I was reluctant because it is a taboo to be found with a human skull in Nigeria. I refused to give it a try but in recent times, my business started dwindling. People were no longer coming back for prayers and some of my colleagues told me to look for ways to make my drugs more potent. It was then that I decided to give it a try.”
.
“I decided to make, Omodijie, my friend. We became good friends and hanged out severally. It was in one of our outings that I mentioned the idea to him. Initially he refused but I was able to convince him months later that his secret was safe with me. I knew that his salary was not much, so I told him that I will also pay him for his services. I was shocked when the man who claims to be an Alhaji turned out to be a policeman. I tried my best not to mention the name of Omodijie but when I realised that my captors were policemen from SARS, I had to tell them everything they wanted to know. This was necessary before they will assume that I am into ritual killing.I am telling the truth. Please, do not publish this story because my customers will run away”, he begged

The third suspect, Saliu, who hails from Ilesha in Osun State, also claims that he attended an Islamic school where he learnt Arabic studies.

“I do not believe that human skull can be used to prepare charms but some of my colleagues, including Owolabi, believe in it. I knew that he had access to human skulls, that was why I contacted him to help me. I know colleagues who had demand for it; all I did was to contact Owolabi. I never knew that it was a set-up by the police to arrest us. I am terribly sorry and will assist the police to find those who I supplied the skulls to.”

ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN RALLY IN ZARIA WAS A MISGUIDED ACT

In Nigeria, we always get our priority wrong, and this baffled me a lot. It is only in Nigeria that our securities are killing at will, they are triggers happy, killing the defenceless civilians on a little provocation. Are they telling us that civil unrest cannot be managed without resulting into shooting and killing?

On Friday 25th July, The leader of the Islamic Brotherhood in Nigeria, Ibrahim Zakzaky, has accused the Nigerian military of summarily executing two of his sons after their arrests, in addition to a third son killed earlier, allegedly by soldiers.

It was earlier reportedly that the troops opened fire and killed members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria during an annual procession called ‘Quds Day’ in solidarity with Palestinians under Isreali attacks in Gaza in which at least 5 persons from a Muslim Shiite group in Zaria, Kaduna State of Shiites under the leadership of Sheik Ibraheem Zakzaky fear dead.

The soldier claimed that they ran out patience after waiting for 35 minutes for the procession to end. As they meant to leave, someone in the crowd reportedly opened fire as the protesters blocked the road. But while speaking at a news conference Saturday, Mr. Zakzaky said there were no clashes between Shiite Muslims and soldiers as earlier reported, but that troops opened fire on the worshippers during an annual Qud procession in solidarity with Palestinians!

In as much as i sympathise with the Palestinians, the question that beg for an answer is that what are we going to gain from Israeli-Palestinian War rally while over 200 Nigerian children were been abducted by a terrorist organisation and Zakzaky never organise a rally to show solidarity for the parents of this abducted girls and put pressure on the government to do something concrete?

Common sense demands a man whose house is on fire to rush for the extinguisher for his own dwelling first, before attending to a similar fire elsewhere. This “brotherhood of faith” which they claimed was in solidarity with the Palestinians, but ignoring that we're bereaved at home, is nothing but hypocrite.

Meanwhile, Olajide Laleye, the Director of Army Public Relations, said that the investigation would establish to determine on what actually happened. “However, what is already clear is that Nigerian Army troops did not initiate firing and only acted in self-defence after being fired upon,’’ He said.
