CRIME:EFCC ALERTS THE PUBLIC TO BEWARE AS THEY ARRESTED IMPERSONATORS....

The commission has arrested one Mohammed Yunusa Tope, who went into a new generation bank in Kano State, to cash N2million fraud money. The Commission also arrested on Olubunmo Olalekan who had been churning out fake invitation letters and messages to prominent citizens and heads of organisations alleging fraud against them from his Akure base. According to Investigators, Tope is an accomplice to Olalekan.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) image maker, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren , has informed the member of the public  to take caution and be alert, according him this has become necessary because of the activities of fraudsters who have been impersonating officials of the Commission and extorting money from members of the public under various guises.

Uwujaren said: “Despite arrests and successful prosecution of some of them by the Commission, such syndicates have continued to mushroom and changing tactics as soon as their latest modus operandiare exposed. There have been of recent; a worrying upsurge in the number of fake invitation letters purported to have been issued by the EFCC, which the criminals are busy sending to unsuspecting members of the public, alleging high financial crimes against them.”

Uwujaren said that pliable recipients of some of these letters had lost millions of naira to these gangsters in their desperation to forestall arrest and possible prosecution for unstated crimes.

The image maker said that despite repeated warnings by the Commission, that no genuine EFCC invitation will request the recipient to call any private GSM number or any telephone line for that matter and that EFCC will not invite anybody to a meeting at any place other than the known offices of the Commission, many are still falling victims of the scam.

“The new dimension to the criminal exploits of the syndicates, is to send text messages to  would-be victims, alleging that they have pending cases before the EFCC and offering  proposals for a soft landing. This new gimmick is targeted at politicians, especially those who are aspiring to hold offices in the next dispensation,” said Uwujaren.

Uwujaren said that the Commission wishes to state as follows:  EFCC invitation letters do not bear personal telephone numbers. They are usually signed by duly authorised officers and invitees are clearly instructed to report to a specified officer at the Commission’s office; No EFCC invitation will require the invitee to report at any building or location outside the known offices of the Commission; EFCC invitation cannot be traded off under any circumstance; The Commission does not demand or accept payment, either to commence or discontinue an investigation; EFCC does not invite persons under investigation via text messages; Any person who receives an invitation letter should confirm the authenticity of such an invitation from the Commission through the following email or telephone numbers:info@efccnigeria.org, 09-9044752 or 09-9044753

FAMILY FINDS THEIR MISSING DAD DEAD AND ABANDONED BY ROAD SIDE

(Not real picture...Photo credit: Google)

Mr. Joseph Oranusi , an indigene of Idemili, Anambra State, who was working as a security guard at a complex within the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, has been found dead and abandoned in front of a shop on Capitol Road, Agege, Lagos.

The deceased, who lived with his family at Olusanya Street, Isokoko, Agege, was initially reported missing at the Isokoko Police Division on Thursday, October 24th, the day he failed to return home from his workplace.

It was learnt that the family, apart from reporting to the police, the family also went to his workplace, to inquire about him and at the same time made an announcement on the broadcast media as they searched for their missing father.

However,Oranusi’s corpse was discovered five days later, by policemen on patrol from the Dopemu division  in front of an abandoned shop on Capitol Road, Agege, it was gathered that Oranusi was believed to have slumped and died at the location while on his way back home.

The wife of the deceased, Hope Oranusi, expressed her sadness and greatest pain that her husband was taken away to a morgue in Yaba, while the family was not contacted  by the Police authority even though the police found an identity card on him.

She said, “We had looked everywhere for him since the day of the incident. He had left for work on the night of Wednesday and had not returned in the morning as usual. He had hypertension and he used to take some drugs to alleviate the effects.
“It was five days later that a church member called me that someone heard that an abandoned corpse was found in front of a shop on Capitol Road.
“They did not allow me to see it, but when his younger brother went, it turned out to be my husband.
“My shock was that we learnt the police took the body to a morgue for a mass burial. I was very sad. How could a man returning from work and found with an ID card be taken to a morgue for a mass burial without his family or workplace being contacted? However, they have rescinded the decision.”
Hope, who has three kids and teaches in a private secondary school, added that she believed that although people might have failed to come to her husband’s rescue, he died a natural death.
“He died a natural death. His body was found intact. So, I don’t think anyone was responsible,” she said.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, while confirming the incident, said the police had released the corpse to the family for burial.
He said, “The police recovered his corpse. His case was recorded as Sudden and Unnatural Death. The police took the body to a morgue where an autopsy should have been conducted to ascertain the cause of death. But on the family’s request, his body has now been released for burial.”

MY FRIENDS FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO HUG ME BECAUSE OF MY AILMENT....OGOGO

One of the Nigerian finest and respected Nollywood actor cum producer Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, aka  ‘Ogogo’ clocked 55 on Friday, October 31, 2014.

The Yewa, Ogun  state born  talented entertainer  said he would forever be grateful to Almighty Allah for keeping him alive after all he went through some years back ,recapped the ugly moment which almost sent him to the great beyond .

Here is Taiwo Hassan responses to the questions about his predicaments and his social life, enjoy it :

‘’For the benefit of those that will be reading your story for the first time, what were you diagnosed of?
I had chronic ulcer.  You can imagine what will happen to a person that couldn’t eat anything apart from pap for seven months.  I was so lean.  Maybe, that was what actually fuelled the speculation that I had HIV/AIDS.  If I ate any other thing then, even if it’s a teaspoon of rice, I would vomit everything. I would even vomit blood.  I pray that won’t be your portion, and that of everybody that loves you as well.  I also pray that till I finish my assignment on earth, I won’t experience such again.  It’s an experience I don’t like to continue talking about.

You’re a ladies’ man, have your female admirers start showing up now that you’re back fully in looks and everything?
(Laughs) The love women had for me before my predicament was still there even when I was down.  And there were some of my male colleagues that found it difficult to hug me because of my ailment.  But I thank God for my life today.  Am I not the one that’s 55 now, the age a lot of people didn’t know I would attain?  I could still recollect running medical tests alone cost me fortunes.  For about four months, I was on the same spot. I was performing my five daily prayers, sitting.  I couldn’t stand on my legs.  I thought all was over.  But God revealed to me that it was just a test to know how close I was to Him.
That means, the situation also drew you nearer to God?
Even before then, I was very close to God but I became closer.  I will forever worship Him.  He has done me proud.’’

HEALTH: 30 QUACK DOCTORS ARRESTED WHILE 14 OF THEM FACED TRIAL IN COURT...MDCN

The Registrar/Chief Executive of the MDCN, Dr. Abdulmuni Ibrahim,  disclosed in Abuja that the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria  has arrested over  30 quack doctors, including those involved in illegal practice, while 14 of them have faced trial in court within four years of the establishment of its tribunal.

According to him, the number of training institutions in the country accredited by the council has increased from one, which was University College Hospital, Ibadan to 31 within the last 50 years.
“The council has successfully introduced indexing of medical students in medical schools to ensure that training institutions keep to their allotted admission quotas thereby ensuring that standard  is maintained,” Ibrahim stressed.
While the council has instituted and enforced the continuous professional development programme since 2011, the medical and dental practitioners registered presently stand at over 70,000 from a little over 1,000 in 1963.

The chairman, Governing Board of MDCN, Prof Jonathan Azubuike, has appealed to the Federal Government to be allowed to do their job without frequent disruptions.
He explained that if all things were equal, the celebration should have taken place in 2013 adding that there was no council in existence last year and that explained the 50+ 1.

ONE IN NINE BRITISH MEN HAVE PAID FOR SEX...WHAT ABOUT NIGERIAN MEN?

One in nine British men have paid for sex. According to a new study published in the journal Sexually Transmitted Infections, revealed that 3.6 per cent of the 6,000 men surveyed admitted visiting prostitutes in the past five years.

Dr Cath Mercer, top scientist, from University College London, said: ‘The picture that emerges does not necessarily fit the stereotype of the lonely older man.
‘In fact, men who pay for sex are more likely to be young professionals with many unpaid sexual partners. Many report other hedonistic and risky behaviours including heavy drinking and drug taking.’

Men who paid for sex were also more than twice as likely as average men to have been diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection in the past five years.
Men who used prostitutes made up 15.6 per cent of all reported STI diagnoses in male population.

Dr Mercer continue thus : ‘Men who pay for sex are evidently at high risk of infection, but this does not necessarily mean that the STIs are spread through their paid sex.
‘Instead, we found that these men report engaging in other risky sexual behaviours, such as having concurrent - or overlapping - partners, and so should be considered a core-group for sexual health interventions and services.’
