Veteran Yoruba  actor, Olusegun Akinremi, AKA “Chief Kanran” has resorted to begging in order to have good accommodation,basic things of life and food on his table.

The popular Yoruba actor, revealed this amidst hot tears rolling down his cheeks,  in an interview  with a popular Yoruba radio talk show host, Kola Olootu.

Chief Kanran said…

“Seven years ago, things got bad for me. I was not ill and whatever will make me ill and people will start contributing for me, I thank God that it did not happen to me. However, what is currently happening to me is more than being ill. In 2017, my home got burnt from top to down and my wife and children deserted me.”

“My studio, where all my equipment are, also got burnt. Since the incident happened over a year ago, I have been sleeping in my church as I don’t have money to rent an apartment. Feeding has also been difficult for me. All my four cars are no longer with me. I sold one to feed, one got burnt, another one got knocked,” he said.

 

FEMI GBAJABIAMILA ON LEGISLATIVE DIPLOMACY OVER MALTREATMENT OF NIGERIA CITIZENS IN GHANA

Femi Gbajabiamiala, speaker of the house of representatives, Nigeria,is set to meet lawmakers in Ghana over the recent crisis involving both countries.

It would be recalled that in June,2020, a part of the Nigerian mission building in Ghana was demolished. Some Nigerian traders in Ghana also accused the Ghanaian government of closing their shops over non-registration with the Ghana Investment Promotion Council (GIPC), which requires $1,000,000 minimum foreign equity.

Following the development, the federal government had told Ghana it would no longer tolerate the harassment.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, Gbajabiamila said he has secured the blessing of the president to proceed to Ghana on what he called “legislative diplomacy”.

“One of the issues we discussed today, I’m leaving for Ghana tomorrow to meet with the speaker of the parliament in Ghana to look at the issues on ground, as it affects our citizens, and to try and calm things down and see if there’s a way forward,” he said.

 

“I’ll meet with the speaker tomorrow. I informed the president and he’s aware of every single step that we are taking all the way, and we hope that we’ll come to an amicable settlement one way or the other.

“It’s called legislative diplomacy. If you remember very well, I led the delegation to South Africa during the crisis there with Nigerians and we were able to accomplish quite a bit, to simmer things down at that time.

“No demands; we’re just going to discuss in the spirit of African parliaments and we’ll be looking at issues from time to time as they affect African countries and this is one of them.”

He said Nigeria is looking for amicable solutions, and while the Ghanaians have their take on what’s going on, Nigeria also has its position, and would see how both countries can come to a solution.

“We are two strong West African countries and there must be symbiosis; we must work together. You don’t get anything from working at cross purposes or knocking heads together. We must, at all times, as Africans, work as best as possible together and that’s what this my trip is about,” he added.

 

PASTOR ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY DEFILING 15-YEAR OLD GIRL IN ANAMBRA

Anambra State Police Command, Obosi Division, has arrested  Chukwudi Chukwumezie,34, the pastor of Mountain Zion Deliverance Ministry, Ugamuma, Obosi,for allegedly defiling a 15-year old girl from Iyaba Egbema in Ozubulu, Anambra state.

The suspect, a self-acclaimed Pastor in charge of Mountain Zion deliverance ministry, Ugamuma village, Obosi had earlier been arrested after defiling a 15-years old girl at a hotel along Eze iweka road Obosi under false pretence of making a deliverance prayers for her.

Chukwumezie was charged to Court but reportedly jumped bail before he went after another teenage girl who he raped, using same modus of false deliverance.

Confirming the incident, Police spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed said the suspect would be charged to court after investigations.

He said, “It would be recalled that on the 23/9/2019 Police operatives attached to Obosi Division arrested one pastor Chukwudi Chukwumezie ‘m’ aged 34 years in charge of Mountain Zion deliverance ministry, Ugamuma village, Obosi who allegedly lured and had unlawful carnal knowledge with a Fifteen years old girl at a hotel along Eze iweka road Obosi under false pretence of making a deliverance prayers for her.

“Police detectives took the victim to the hospital for medical Examination where penetration and laceration of her hymen was confirmed by the medical doctor after which suspect was charged to Court for prosecution.

“However, same suspect who presently jumped Court bail had on the 16/7/2020 and 4/8/2020 allegedly defiled another fifteen years old girl from Iyaba Egbema in Ozubulu using same modus of false deliverance. The victim was equally taken to the hospital for medical examination where penetration was confirmed.

“Suspect was arrested on the 30/8/2020 by police operatives attached to Ozubulu Division following a tip off and case transferred to the State criminal investigation department for discreet investigation as directed by the Commissioner of Police, John Abang.”

 

CAMA NOT TARGETED RELIGIOUS BODIES~~ SEN.ITA ENANG

The Presidency has finally reacted to the controversy that trailed the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020. 

 

Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and former National Assembly Presidential Liaison Officer, Senator Ita Enang, who spoke at a brief ceremony held at the secretariat of the Christain Association of Nigeria in Abuja, where he received the position paper of CAN on behalf of the President  Muhammadu Buhari, stated that CAMA is not targeted at churches, mosques and other religious bodies.

 

According to Enang, Buhari has no bad intention against Christianity or any other religion, and the Act which has become a law by assent, can only be amended by the National Assembly. 

 

He said; 

 

 “Misconceptions have enveloped this Act with deliberate misinformation and falsehood by persons who may not have fully and in-fact personally read and digested the provision of the Act. We consider it appropriate and responsible to appear before you and other fora to make these explanations.

“We want to declare as a fact, that the Act does not target churches or religious bodies as wrongly assumed. For an illustration of this, I present a tabular form of the provisions of the 1990 Act which came into force on January 2, 1990, which after more than 30 years of operation has now been repealed and replaced by CAMA 2020.

“Hereunder are the comparative provisions in the two enactments to show particularly that the 2020 Act assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari has not introduced any matter oppressive to the Christian Community or any religion nor any matter discriminatory against any class of persons in Nigeria.”

 

GUIDELINE FOR TRAVELLERS ARRIVING IN NIGERIA FROM OVERSEES

The Federal Government of Nigeria has  released some guidelines for people that will be travelling into the country durning ths COVID-19 pandemic.

Inline with the resumption plans, some of the guidelines includes paying for a secondary COVID-19 test from a website before boarding from the country of departure and having a valid positive COVID-19 test which is not more than 7 days from the country of departure.

According to the FG, the rules are quite strict as air carriers will be fined at least $3500 for any passenger that breaks any of the rules.

MFM ALLEGED FRAUD @ LONDON BRANCH OF THE CHURCH

  The General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), Dr. Daniel Olukoya has  denied any link to fraudulent activities allegedly involving the London branch of his church.

Olukoya, also, added that allegations leveled against him and the MFM were without foundation, but intent to damage his reputation and destroy the global image of the church.

However, i beg to disaggre with Olukoya , based on what the UK Charity Commission published on their website. Harriet Whitehead, wrote on Civil Society News on 5 Aug 2019, thus:

"The Charity Commission has appointed an interim manager at Christian charity Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries International (MFM) after uncovering further concerns over its governance in an ongoing inquiry. In March 2018, the Commission opened a statutory inquiry to look into a number of issues. These included the repeated late filing of financial information, and worry over the trustees’ unwillingness to report serious incidents. The Commission has now said it has further concerns, including a failure to swiftly report fraud, and has appointed an interim manager after trustees continued to fail to comply with their legal duties."

 "The Commission also has questions over the governance of the charity. Three trustees are paid, which is in breach of the charity’s governing document and “causes conflict” when employment matters are discussed. The organisation currently has 28 employees and 62 volunteers. The Commission said that despite its continued engagement, the trustees are still not complying with their legal duties, including failing to submit accurate financial accounts on time. The Commission has therefore appointed an interim manager whose remit includes reviewing the charity’s financial and governance processes, inspecting a number of the charity’s branches and their handling of serious incidents. The interim manager assumes these duties at the exclusion of the charity’s trustees, who retain control over matters relating to religious activities."

Kirsty Weakley, on 6 Jun 2018, also wrote; "Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries International’s accounts for the year ending December 2016 reveal that there have been two incidents where money has been lost. 

The first “relates to Gift Aid payments made on behalf of the charity for the years between 2005 and 2012”. The second involves the mismanagement of funds by a branch. 

It said it can’t estimate the amount that has been lost “as both matters are currently under investigation by trustees and have been reported to Charity Commission”. 

One branch is also involved in a planning dispute with a local council and there is currently an enforcement proceeding against the charity relating to “a branch carrying out its activites in a rented property without prior permission from council”. 

Its accounts also say that a spouse of one of the trustees works as a senior pastor for the church, receiving £35,000 during the year."
