Lamine Diack  ,87,  a Senegalese businessman, sports administrator, and former athlete.the former head  of the International Association of Athletics Federations from 1999 to 2015 has been jailed after being found guilty of corruption in the Russian doping scandal.

LAWYERS SIGN PETITION TO STRIP ABUBAKAR MALAMI THE TITLE OF " Senior Advocate of Nigeria”

Abubakar Malami, Minister for Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, has ignited the wrath of Nigerian lawyers following his amendment to the rules of professional conduct for legal practitioners (RPC), 2007.

Malami reportedly removed the requirement for the NBA stamp and seal on court processes. He was accused of taking the decision alone and creating room for non-lawyers to submit court processes.

The amendment occurred less than a week after a splinter group known as the New NBA wrote a petition to Malami, asking to be recognised by the Federal Government. The splinter group of mostly northern lawyers had emerged after Governor El-Rufai was removed from the list of speakers in the last NBA conference.

In the petition started on Change.org by Izu Aniagu and titled “Sign to strip Nigeria’s AGF, Abubakar Malami the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria”, Malami's alleged wrongdoings which led to the move to strip him of his SAN title (highest rank for lawyers in Nigeria) were also listed.

It read;

“Since assumption of office, the Attorney General of the Federation has continued to go rogue, from his disobedience to court order, to his lackluster prosecution, to his outright failure to prosecute, to allegations of corruption and bias against his person, to usurpation of office, to shielding of suspects, to his general dereliction of duty,” the petition read.

“This time, the AGF has decided to take his imprudence to top notch by unilaterally deleting the provisions of the Rules of Professional Conduct which provide for stamp and seal as well as bar practicing fee for government lawyers. The AGF does not have such power. Section 12 (4) of the LPA gives the General Council of the Bar power to make any such amendment and make other decisions concerning the NBA.

“There is no record of any meeting convened by the The Attorney General of the Federation who is the president of The Bar Council. The AGF took the decision alone and his actions constitute a threat to the rule of law. His action is totally shameful and is underserving of a lawyer in the rank of a Senio Advocate, let alone a Chief Law Officer of the federation.”

As at the time of filing this report, 973 lawyers have signed the petition.

NIGERIA CAN BE SAVED FROM DISINTEGRATION~~OBJ

Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo,  says Nigeria is slowly becoming a failed state and a basket case that urgently needs to be pulled from the brink of collapse.

He said this in Abuja on Thursday while delivering a speech titled, ‘Moving Nigeria Away from Tipping Over’ at a consultative dialogue attended by various socio-cultural groups including Afenifere, Middle Belt Forum, Northern Elders Forum, Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo and Pan Niger Delta Forum.

Obasanjo, who played an active role in the Nigerian Civil War, said he had never seen Nigeria so divided, adding that many of the problems plaguing the country today were due to the recent mismanagement of Nigeria’s diversity.

The former President said, “I do appreciate that you all feel sad and embarrassed as most of us feel as Nigerians with the situation we find ourselves in. Today, Nigeria is fast drifting to a failed and badly divided state; economically our country is becoming a basket case and poverty capital of the world, and socially, we are firming up as an unwholesome and insecure country.

“And these manifestations are the products of recent mismanagement of diversity and socio-economic development of our country. Old fault lines that were disappearing have opened up in greater fissures and with drums of hatred, disintegration and separation and accompanying choruses being heard loud and clear almost everywhere.”

Obasanjo said those beating drums of war and calling for secession must remember that were Nigeria to break into several countries, the citizens would still be neighbours and would need to interact with one another.

He added, “With what I have seen, read and heard from the rapprochement that you are forging together, I see a ray of hope that Nigeria can be saved from disintegration.

“If we are ready to live together in understanding, mutual respect and love with equity, justice, inclusiveness while engendering sense of belonging and unity of purpose and all hands on deck, we can deal with internal issues of terrorism, organised crimes, banditry, kidnapping, human trafficking, drug, money laundering and corruption. We will then be able to deal successfully with any incoming attack of terrorism, organised crimes, etc; from outside.”

Obasanjo said, “That ray of hope was somewhat manifested in the last 10 days or so when the Northern Elders Forum and Yoruba Summit Group complemented each other in their separate press releases on the Senate’s idea of inviting submissions from Nigerian public for constitution amendment which had been regular money-gulping activity by every National Assembly session since 1999, a veritable source of waste without end.

“I believe one of our major problems in the past was that we did not dialogue enough, we talk at ourselves and selfishly keep old prejudices and biases. If we show understanding, give-and-take, love of one another and commitment and love of the country, we will do what is right and stand firmly together for the good of all.”

He said he was optimistic that the consultation among the several groups would enlarge the circle from the mini-dialogue group bit by bit until a national dialogue that could save Nigeria from disintegration was reached. When that is done, he said the initiative would come to an end.

The former President said only self-deluded people would claim that all is well in Nigeria.

He said, “I believe Nigeria is worth saving on the basis of mutuality and reciprocity and I also believe it can be done through the process of dialogues rather than talking at each other or resorting to violence. It will amount to dangerous and destructive self-delusion for anybody to claim that all is well in Nigeria today.”

Obasanjo added, “Some people are obsessed with 2023, I believe that with death, destruction, debt, disease, deceit, disbelief, disenchantment, doubt and suspicion around, we need to see our way through to 2023 and beyond in some form of unity of purpose, reasonable security, shared values, true democratic practice, inclusiveness and shared society. That is why we are here. No constitution is even permanent; it is dynamic with time and experience.”

Speaking with Saturday PUNCH on Friday, Afenifere Chieftain, Ayo Adebanjo, said the consultative forum had become necessary due to the myriad challenges facing the nation.

He said the resolutions of the 2014 National Conference ought to be implemented rather than have a fresh constitutional amendment exercise that would gulp money and fail to address pressing issues.

Meanwhile, a communiqué issued by Ambassador Ahmed Magaji at the end of the forum stated that the Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi; the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Governors Forum, Atiku Bagudu; and the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Aminu Tambuwal, had been briefed on the activities of the forum.

It read in part, “The participating organisations are committed to supporting  themselves in all activities targeted at improving the Nigerian constitution for the purpose of meeting the yearnings and aspirations of all Nigerian citizens.”

The meeting agreed to set up panels of experts to discuss, address and make recommendations on about seven subjects, including Nigeria’s federal structure and devolution of power, responsibilities and resources; security; electoral reforms and ensuring the integrity and credibility of elections; local government autonomy and effective administration; the economy and fiscal federalism; judicial reforms and other matters central to the survival of Nigeria

UNINVITED GUEST STABS BIRTHDAY CELEBRANT TO DEATH IN OGUN STATE

Omeika Josiah's birthday party ended in tragedy as a guest , Sunday Phillip allegedly stabbed him to  death. This unfortunate incident happened  at Amini Awo village in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun state.

According to reports, the suspect who is an apprentice mechanic, arrived the party uninvited and was served a bottle of beer and a plate of spiced spaghetti.

As the party progressed, Philip got into a fight with a guest after a misunderstanding. The celebrant walked in on both men fighting and took sides with the guest identified as Jonah, and this got Philip angry.

The suspect allegedly ran into a nearby house and returned with a knife which he used to stab Philip.

A community leader who confirmed the incident said he was not aware of the plan to hold a birthday party in the village and had the deceased celebrator told him, he would have informed the village head, Chief Kunle Aromokun, to put in place adequate security.

“It is sad that the life of the celebrator was cut short by an uninvited guest at his own party. If the late Josiah had told me that he was going to organise a party to celebrate his birthday, I would have told the Baale (village head), who would have in turn invited members of the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) to provide security and prevent a breakdown of law and order at the event.” he said.

I WILL KILL YOU,I WILL TEAR YOU INTO PIECES~~ IBIYEOMIE TO DADDY FREEZE

I wrote a blog on Wednesday, 2 March 2016,how African Christendom are sitting on keg of gun powder! With fake pastors here and there , fake miracles couple with sweet coated mouth, promises of heaven and sowing of seeds etc. I hope the issue of Rev. Jones in Guyana is still fresh in our memories !

Recently,a pentocotal pastor, David Ibiyeomie, hiding behind a pulpit and spitting out onprinted words against a citizen of a Federal Republic of Nigeria, maily because, of the way Daddy Freeze, is enlightening the poor of the poor that were caged in religion dungeon.

David Ibiyeomie,  founder of Salvation Ministries, has threatened to kill a popular broadcaster, Ifedayo Olarinde aka Daddy Freeze, if he ever insults the founder of Living Faith Church, David Oyedepo, again.

The cleric made the threat and rained curses on the OAP while delivering a sermon at his church headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Sunday.

Describing the radio broadcaster  as a non-Nigerian, Mr Ibiyeomie said, ‘‘If he insults me, I won’t mind; but insult Oyedepo, that bastard who is his father? Does Daddy Freeze have a father? That bastard who was born by a Somalian. The day I hear him insult Oyedepo again I’ll deal with him’’.

‘‘If he has a father let him show us his father’s picture. Someone they gave birth to in a ship. Does he look like a Nigerian? I curse the day he was born.”

‘‘He is insulting my own father and people are laughing. Anybody may not talk but I will talk. I will never be alive and see somebody insult my father. It is not done. You are not born. I will kill you, I will tear you into pieces. Very soon I will arrest him.’’

‘The man who cannot marry. He has no wife. He can’t manage his home. He is coming to talk on television. Is it not his wife who left him? A broadcaster, does he have a good job?

Daddy Freeze, came hard on David  Oyedepo statement he made  on his Instagram handle which read, ‘‘The only way to a fruitful marriage is total submission on the part of the wife.”

“Until it is in place, every other thing she tries to do will be out of place. A woman who refuses to submit to her husband is disobeying God.”

Daddy Freeze wrote, ‘‘The fact that you have been married for 30 years doesn’t necessarily make you an expert on marriage. A prisoner in prison for 30 years is still not an expert on the penitentiary system.

‘‘Also, the fact that you are single, separated, or divorced doesn’t disqualify you from giving marital advice. Paul and Christ gave most of the New Testament advice on marriage and neither was married.”

He added, ‘‘Many religious marriages are endured and not enjoyed. Many pastors are suffering in silence.”
