GODWIN OBASEKI PROJECTED WINNER OF EDO GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION WITH RESULTS AVAILABLE SO FAR


The ongoing governorship election in Edo state ended yesterday, September 19, followed by the counting of votes. There are 14 governorship candidates participating in the election, but the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are believed to be the top contenders in the race.

 The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) indicated that 1.72 million people are eligible to vote in the election, while 483,796 eligible voters will not participate in the poll for failure to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State is projected to win Saturday's governorship election in the state.

Obaseki achieved the feat after amassing massive votes.According to the results from 17 Local Government Areas announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission so far, the Peoples Democratic Party is leading with over 82,000 votes.

INSECURITY IN NIGERIA: BANDITS KILLED DPO AND ABDUCT TWO MARRIED WOMEN IN GIDANMADI SOKOTO STATE


Bandits in Tangaza local government area of Sokoto state on Wednesday night, shot and killed a police DPO and an Inspector as they abduct 2 married women in Gidanmadi community. 

A locale told the BBC Hausa in an interview, that at about 1 am,they were woken up by gunshots in the community. “We knew it was the bandits because a day before, they attacked neighboring Tangaza. They caused serious havoc.. 

They shot sporadically and killed the DPO of Gidanmaji before they abducted the women. He said a police reinforcement later came to the village from Sokoto with an ambulance, and took away the corpses.

ASP Mohammed Sadiq,the PPRO in Sokoto confirmed the attack, saying the Commissioner of Police had visited the village, while investigation had commenced.

 Another local who had since migrated to neighboring Niger Republic, told the BBC Hausa that the Gudu community near the location that was attacked, was constantly under attack by the bandits. ” Gudu and Tangaza local governments are always under attack by the bandits. 

On Saturday, the bandits were in Bachaka wielding dangerous weapons, they operated from house to house,from 3.00am to 5.30am. “On Sunday morning they returned to another community and abducted people, they came on Monday and abducted 2 people in Awumgi…the abductees  are still in their captivity. I am among the IDPs in Niger Republic,” he said.

EMIR OF ZAZZAU IS DEAD



The Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, is dead. He died at the age of 84 on Sunday morning.


“It is confirmed. He had some health issue on Friday and was taken to hospital where he died. His body would soon be transported to Zaria for burial,” said a family source.

El-Rufai tweets "VERY SAD: It is with great sadness that I confirm the passing of the father of our state, His Highness Emir of Zazzau, Alh (Dr.) Shehu Idris CFR. He died at the 44 Military Hospital Kaduna today after a brief illness. Janazah prayer in Zaria is scheduled for 5pm in Sha Allah."


 

SCHOOL BUILDING COLLAPSES IN EJIGBO LAGOS


 

A three-story building belonging  Excel College, which is located at 15, Ansarudeen Street, Ile-Epo Bus-Stop, Ejigbo area in Lagos state collapsed on Saturday, September 19. So far, there are no reports of casualties recorded.


According to eyewitnesses, the privately-owned building belonging to Excel College had previously shown signs of distress and the school was planning to renovate the structure before the collapse.

UNITED STATE PLACED VISA BAN ON OSHIOMOLE AND Co.

 Ex-National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole,Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, and Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello, are  among top Nigerians slammed with a visa ban by the United States Government on Monday, SaharaRepoters reprted..

Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna on the other hand had his own visa ban extended.


He has been banned from entering the US since 2010 over a graft case.

According to US officials, more Nigerian politicians may be included on the visa ban list after the Edo governorship election if they are involved in electoral malpractice.

Those affected by the latest visa ban have received notification by email and or text messages, it was learnt.

A statement by spokesperson for the Department of State, Morgan Ortagus, on Monday said those issued visa bans received the sanction for undermining democracy in Nigeria.

 It reads, “In July 2019, we announced the imposition of visa restrictions on Nigerians who undermined the February and March 2019 elections. Today, the Secretary of State is imposing additional visa restrictions on individuals for their actions surrounding the November 2019 Kogi and Bayelsa states elections and in the run up to the September and October 2020 Edo and Ondo states elections.

“These individuals have so far operated with impunity at the expense of the Nigerian people and have undermined democratic principles.

“The Department of State emphasises that the actions announced today are specific to certain individuals and not directed at the Nigerian people. This decision reflects the Department of State’s commitment to working with the Nigerian Government to realise its expressed commitment to end corruption and strengthen democracy, accountability, and respect for human rights."

NIGERIAN MAN ARRESTED FOR MURDERING HIS FRIEND OVER $40 IN USA


 Ofon Phillip Idiong,22, has been charged for killing his 22-year-old friend, Brian Njoku.on Monday, September 7,2020,Houston,USA.


 


The deceased was owing the suspect $40(N15k) and had reportedly been trying to pay via an online banking platform but the money kept reversing into his account. 


 


According to reports, "Ofon picked up Brian and they went to a mutual friend’s house at 8811 Gustine Lane, to watch a basketball match on Monday, September 7,2020.


 


"The suspect asked for his money but Brian tried to explain the situation. An argument ensued and Ofon brought out a gun and shot him .”


 


According to City of Houston News, Houston Police Department patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the crime scene and found Brian suffering from gunshot wounds. They administered first aid and quickly rushed him to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead.


 


The suspect initially fled the scene but returned and was interviewed by Houston police detectives. He was subsequently charged for his role in Njoku’s death. 


 


Nigerian man arrested in Houston for murdering another Nigerian man over $40



The Houston Police Department wrote in a statement posted on its website: "Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 8811 Gustine Lane that occurred about 10:30 p.m. on Monday (September 7).

 


"The suspect, Ofon Phillip Idiong (b/m, 22), is charged with murder in the 337th State District Court.  A booking photo of Idiong is attached to this news release.


"The victim, Brian Njoku, 22, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 


"The security guard stated that prior to the shooting Njoku and another man were overheard arguing in front of the apartment. " the state read
