ADEDAYO ADEKOYA GENTLEMAN: GONE TOO SOON

I don’t know where to begin this tribute, the reason been that am a bit confused, my mind is blank but as a man i will still try to express myself. Yesterday morning while i was going through one of my uncle facebook profile, i saw a particular phrase that caught my attention; it was about DEATH. It went thus:  “We're all going to die, all of us, what a circus! That alone should make us love each other but it doesn't. We are terrorized and flattened by trivialities, we are eaten up by nothing.” (―Charles Bukowski) I copied and pasted it on my facebook profile.

Later in the night, to be exact 11.57pm,a good friend of mine sent a short message to my in-box thus:’ Adedayo Adekoya is dead.’ In a state of confusion, i don’t know what to say or write, i just wrote in response ‘what ? may his soul rest in peace’!!!

Yea, I do not really like to write an obituary of a small boy, but Adedayo Adekoya is a perfect gentleman, and if a fail to make a comment about this fine boy it means that am  not been sincere. I met this boy online, that is , he was a friend i met on the internet we eventually belong to a social network called  ‘AOZ OF ZEAL’ a group with a motive  to catch fun, proffer solutions to social and individual problems, reach out to people living with terminal diseases such as Cancer, HIV etc and also the less privileged.

Our friendship later metamorphosis and he became my very good friend, a son  and my family but we never met! That is what really pains me. He was a good social commentator; he was a down to earth commentator on any topic that pertaining to social ills in the society like corruptions’, and bad government.

What really pains me about the death of this gentle man is that the government of his country failed him when he needed them most, Adedayo was admitted to Lagos University Teaching Hospital where he  undergone an eye operation, he later went into-comma after the operation that gulp lots of money from his family ! I faulted our heath care system but i will not say more than this for now.

As a member of Christian faith, i believe so much in my Bible; that is why i will love to quote the book of Ecclesiastes 3 verses 1-4 thus:  ‘To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. A  time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.

A time to kill and a time to heal, a time to breakdown, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance.’’

Adedayo, i thank God for you for a very short life well spent. You came, you saw and you conquered. I cannot but to let you know that all THE AOZ MATE said and wrote lot of good things about you.

Babatunde Omogbolahan Atanda wrote:’ It is natural to feel sad at a time such as this, it is humane to cry......and yes, to cry out loud...... It is God who gives and takes.....and there is always a reason to give thanks regardless of the circumstance and any unpleasantness it may bring......but now am not sure I know what am writing, can't even find d right words because my heart bleeds and my eyes weep and and the pain feels almost unbearable, yet there is nothing I can do or anyone can do......'All is well' I kept saying and now All is Well still.....God, we are not worthy to question you but this hurts really bad, it really does.’

Rita Natasha wrote all the way from Kenya thus: ‘I remember u saying good and beautiful things about Me and Gladys my kenyan ore. And when maaamy camè to Kenya u said next visit u go come with maaami to Kenya. Ur a brave and intelligent friend. So humble. I know we shall all meet in that beautiful land. R.I.p’

Angel Ajoke Motunrayosfyrtunate  wrote :’ Hummmm!!!! ADEDAYO why did you gone too soon, you didn't allow me to meet you just for once, am always astonished with all your write-ups.. It really shows how intelligent you are.. An outstanding fellow like you suppose to have waked up...omg!! Eerin woo, ajanaku sun bii oke...A shinning star has fallen...A legend has gone, An hero is nowhere to be found.. Thought I was told you have been responding to treatment?? Oo maa shey ooo.. We can't question you God!! Alapadupe nii olorun oba!! Omg!! Am speechless.. May God grants the entire ADEKOYA family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss!!!’

Queen Kaphie wrote:’ I just came online now waiting to see good update about u buh reverse is d case, ADEDAYO when I was looking forward to see u dis weekend I don't know I will neva Eva meet u. It's so sad and I cant stop crying, u were a genuine, sincere and intelligent person! Oh how can I forget ur caring attitude. SUN RE O!!!! Till we meet to part no more! RIP to a dear friend and brother’

Omolara Ayodele also wrote from Ilorin-Afonja thus:’ Adedayo Adekoya was such a perfect gentleman.I never met him in person, but his voice echoes in my heart. He was kind hearted, humble & very caring. We love you, but God loves you most. Continue to rest in the bosom of our Lord, till we meet to part no more.’

Adedayo i wish to let you know that we your family and friends are going to miss you so much, all the AOZ MATES missed  and mourning your exit among us, on that note, I will love to quote Adebisi Adesanya's tribute‘DO YOU KNOW THERE IS ANOTHER FELLOWSHIP IN HEAVEN? YES I KNOW THERE IS ANOTHER FELLOWSHIP IN HEAVEN’ . Adedayo , ijebu Omo Alare, omo alagemo merindinlogun , goodnight.

'OGA OLOPA' POLICEMAN ON THE RUN FOR ALLEGEDLY KIDNAPPED 8-YEAR OLD GIRL FOR RITUAL

When I first read this news online, that a policeman allegedly kidnap an 8-year old girl from her parent room while she was asleep and hid her under his bed with her mouth gagged and legs and hands tied as a typical nija man who never believe any news, except the government propaganda emanated from my big ‘egbon’, Dr. Doyin Okupe, I decided to call my friends in Nigeria, and he confirmed the story to be true.

Gbuchenge Augustine, a mobile policeman with force number 400823, that reside at Olufowob street, Ikosi-Ketu, Lagos,Nigeria, is now on the run  following a failed attempt to allegedly use an eight-year old girl for ritual.

According to the information gathered, the little girl identified as Amarachi, was found under his bed in his one-room apartment at Olufowobi Street, Ikosi- Ketu with her mouth gagged and legs and hands tied with injuries on her skull and neck.

This bad incident happened on Thursday evening , April,24th, girl’s the father of the girl  returned from work, and noticed that Amarachi did not come to greet him  as usual and when he queried his wife on her whereabouts, he was told that she was asleep.

“I demanded to see her and when they went to call her, she was nowhere to be found. Another little child in the compound later said she saw “Oga Olopa” (the policeman) carrying Amarachi in his arms from their room where she was sleeping, to his room. You know, as a child, nobody took her seriously but the child insisted that Amarachi was in the policeman’s room.

“The policeman, we gathered, had before the incident, sent Amarachi to buy Akara (bean cake) and  recharge card at different times before she went to sleep.Mr Abakwan said the policeman, who sat outside his room smoking, got up and pretending to be angry, insisted that he was falsely accused.

The parents of the girl later reported the incident at the  Ketu Police Station and investigation has commenced.  The Police detective was then sent to their home, peeped through the window of the suspect’s room and found two human legs struggling to be freed. It was gathered that the crowd at the scene later broke into the policeman’s room and set the girl free.

“The man had twisted her neck and used an object to break her skull thinking that she would die in the process but God saved her. My interest was to save my daughter first. We rushed her to Dafe Medical Hospital where they refused to admit her,” the father narrated.
It was gathered that the suspect used the opportunity of the ensuing confusion, to escape from the crowd that had gathered in their residence, and had not returned as at press time.

The state Police Spokesperson,Ngozi Braide said the Police have started investigation to ascertain if the suspect is truly a policeman.

The question i want an urgent answer to is that in a position that a policeman is now involving in kidnapping, who will now police the police?

WONDER IN LAGOS:LADY INSIDE A GUTTER

This woman pictured above, who allegedly confessed to being a witch, was rescued from a gutter today, about 9am where was trapped inside  a very small hole in a 6ft deep gutter just in front of the Abalti Army Barracks , Ojuelegba in Surulere, Lagos. Nigeria.

According to reports, a passerby had noticed someone stretching out her hand and calling out for help, hence he quickly ran into the Army barracks to get help.

Trust Lagos people, within minutes, a crowd gathered, all sort of things were saying about the lady inside the gutter and how she got trapped in it. Some said she’s a witch that she went for her meeting transformed as a bird. Only to end up in the covered gutter after she fell uncontrollably as a bird from the sky. etc.etc.

That it was inside the drainage she now transformed back into her human form. Some others said she was on her way from Oshogbo and got sucked in the gutter, and so on.

However, it was gathered that a senior officer of the Nigerian Army asked the soldiers to get her out, a welder around the environment was called in and she was finally brought out naked.

The woman who have her name as  Amudat Jimoh, sad  ‘’It was God that sent me here, He (GOD) said I should confess my sins so that I don’t die, please I need water to drink, help me, I don’t know how I found myself here, please help me.’’

A Lagos State ambulance arrived and she was taken to away for proper medical attention.
Moreover, personally I do not believe in this ‘witch craft’ theory, this woman need medical and psychological help, thanks to Lagos Ambulance service for quick intervention. Police also need to investigate this matter.

NIGERIAN PENSIONERS DILEMMA: AN 'OGA AT THE TOP' THIEVES

When I watched a video clip of Nigerian pensioners queuing inside the rain in order to get their entitlement, which was not even there! I Shed tears for my country. The pensioners were treated with dignity in western world, they refer to them as senior citizens and they don’t even blink eyes before their entitlements were paid into their bank accounts.

What is really wrong with us in Nigeria? Is it bureaucratic or wickedness on the part of the officials!   How can someone put in 35 years meritorious service and after the retirement, the Oga at the Top’ would still steal the meagre pensions that belongs to them? What kind of a country are we living in?

According to the pension union, names of many pensioners have been deleted from the pension payroll since 2002 while efforts to put their names back were routinely frustrated.
The union further averred that the office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, responsible for the payment of pension of federal retirees as well as remitting statutory contributions from the Federal Government to state pensioners, was responsible for most of the scams experienced with the pension fund.

The Senator Aloysious Etok-led Senate Joint Committee on Public Service and Establishment and States and Local Government Administration who investigated the alleged mismanagement of the funds, observed what it described as 'syndicated and institutionalised corruption, fraud and embezzlement in the management of pension funds in the country'.

They made known that From 2005 to 2011, top government officials in charge of pension funds in the country stole N273.9 billion out of the total sum of N1.025 trillion received as pension funds by the various pension offices and boards within the period; only N751.4 billion was expended, with N273.9 billion looted.

Also out of the N213.3 billion pension funds received by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, only N154.6 billion was disbursed; while the Millitary Pension Board disbursed only N294bn out of the N317.6bn it received.

It further revealed that the Customs, Immigration and Prisons Pension Office paid only N57.4bn out of the N85.2bn released to it; the Department of State Service Pension Office, N9.4bn out of N34.7bn; and the Police Pension Office, N88.2bn out of N131.4bn.

Furthermore, out of the N176.4bn received by other parastatals as pension funds, only N100.6bn was expended; while only N46.9bn was spent out of the N55.8bn released for the payment of retirees of universities across the nation.

It would be recalled that the former Head of Service of Oyo state  , Kudirat Adeleke, and 10 others were on Thursday, November 7, 2013, arraigned by the EFCC on a 213-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining money through false pretence and forgery that associated with N5.6 billion pension scam in the state. The affected property owners were Muili Aderemi, Iyabo Giwa, Oguntayo Banji, Adebiyi Olasumbo, Adeleke Iyabo, Adeduntan Johnson, Kareem Rasheed and two companies – Fimhab Nigeria Limited and Dumath Investment and Services Nigeria Ltd. The question i will love to ask is: What is the outcome of this particular case?

On April 8, 2014, This Day newspapers revealed that The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has uncovered N1 billion missing from the corporation’s pension funds over a period of three years; the fraud was discovered following the result of an internal investigation conducted by the rail management into the   pension funds.
It was learnt that the NRC Managing Director, Adeseyi Sijuwade, has forwarded the report of the enquiry, the names of the suspected culprits and recommendations on how to recover the funds from them   to the Chairman of the Railway Board, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.
“It was discovered that through acts of fraud, financial recklessness, misappropriation and conspiracy, the said sum was diverted by some officials of the corporation,” the source said.
With this attitude, how then will a retiree ever get what belong to them?

According to Investigators in Nigeria, they have traced stolen pension funds to well over 73,000 phoney bank accounts opened by corrupt officials of two federal pension departments.

They include a Permanent Secretary Atiku Abubakar Kigo and top senior officers in the Federal Civil Service, Esai Abubakar; Ahmed Inuwa Wada; John Yakubu Yusufu; Mrs Veronica Ulonma Onyegbula; and Sani Habila Zira.

Mrs Chidi was arrested at the Sheraton Hotel Abuja having gone into hiding following arrests of some of her partners in crime. A breakdown of the cash in her bank account showed that she has $3.3 million in local currency and $2m in a domiciliary account.
Other civil servants in Mrs Chidi’s syndicate include Danjuma Bako-Wasa, Luke Eloanyi, M.A. Abdalla,

Aliyu Bello and Ms Grace Francis. EFCC investigators uncovered that Bako-Wasa operated a different bank account using the alias Haruna Megida.

It was also discovered that in less than a year, Bako-Wasa allegedly paid $140,000 into one bank account just as $53,000 was discovered in a separate account traced to him. Similarly, the EFCC traced $80,000 to Ms. Francis’ account while Eloanyi, a confidential secretary, has $87,000 stored in his account. The EFCC disclosed that in one instance, 554 ghost pensioners drew pensions from one bank account.

The Head of the task force, Abdulrasheed Maina was found to have spent $1.6 million on a biometric exercise and sponsoring 85 officials on a foreign trip to verify less than 20 retirees living overseas.

Another $1.5 million was spent on local bio data to verify the same pensioners. Maina is also accused of depositing huge pension funds into the bank account of his younger brother with the account attracting a monthly interest of $667,000.

The crimes committed by the chairman of the Pension Task Team, Mr Abdulrasheed Maina and all members of his team, according to the Senator Aloysious Etok-led committee, include: illegal contract splitting and award to the tune of N1.8bn; spending N1.6bn as running cost of the police pension instead of N80 million appropriated; spending N830.8 million purportedly for the payment of June 2010 pension using cheques instead of e-payment system; dubious enrolment of pensioners into the payroll, 49,395; spending N234 million on the already 90 percent completed biometric capturing with no files, data and documents from the pension department; spending N17 million on the biometric verification of less than 30 pensioners in Diaspora without recourse to the Nigerian Embassy/High Commission responsible for such.

The committee recommended that all members of the be arrested and prosecuted by the police for "the crimes of embezzlement, fraud, misappropriation, misapplication, illegal virements, contract splitting, award of contracts to non-existing companies, outright stealing of police pension funds, among others"

But according to Nigeria factors, all these thieves are now walking free in our corrupt society, and very soon they will be campaign for political offices, while the government will soon be awarding them with the highest honour of the land CFR,GCFR,GCON.  What a country.
