My daughter Nicole, age 9 is one of a pair of twins was born with Erbs palsyhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erb's_palsy a condition that occurred at birth in a bid to save our collective lives. Nicole is a very bright and very lovable girl who especially manages to endear herself to all my friends and a straight A’s grade 5 student. In July she is billed to have her 4th and final surgery to help her gain some effective use of her right hand, previous surgeries had helped in giving her use of her upper and fore arm and correctly position her hand for use.
The goal of this surgery is to transfer nerves from her thigh to her hand by growing the extracts and transplanting to enable her use her fingers and gain optimistically 80% mobility.
I am writing to you today to ask for your financial support of this venture.
I have tried to buy insurance for this surgery but all the collaborations have failed even trying to buy ‘previously existing condition’ insurance did not pan out. I am back to looking for funds to pay the medical quotation. The amount in total is estimated as 25,000 British pounds. One of the foremost hand specialists in the UK will be performing the surgery in the UK at the end of July.
The amount stated is huge and I fully understand the daily challenges we all experience, we are not destitute but we cannot afford this surgery on our own and we have to reach out to friends, friends of friends and family to make this happen to give my little girl the closest to a functioning right hand as possible, I want to be able to say we gave all we could to minimizing this disability as possible, as she approaches her teen years I fear the simplest tasks such as dressing herself as a young lady should will be challenging and she will always have to rely on someone to complete tasks for her and her independence will be mitigated.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for being a part of our lives,
Sincerely,
Uchenna
