Fela Kuti, was a prophet of God! Either you like it or not, that is my concluded idea about this icon per excellence. Fela, aka Baba 70, sang a song sometime ago it goes does: ‘’I sing a song sometime ago, I call am confusion.....My people say Nigeria don dey! Me as I see am, I know say Nigeria go go down! How country go dey make money, make him people no dey see money?’’
This song now prompts me to write that all the headline news from Nigeria, the most populous black nation on earth is all old, old news.
When we talk about corruptions in the high government level, that is no longer news, all of us witnessed Lawan Farouk vs Femi Otedola, Princess Odua BMW scandal is still fresh in my own memory, while the Police Pension fraud is not news we can brush aside. Etc.
Kidnapping, that is the in thing in Nigeria, a very lucrative business that pays in millions! Mike Ezekome, Ngozi Okonjo-Iwela’s mum, Chief Edwin Clark‘s son to mention just a few were victims of this devilish headlines.
Deceits, Lies and propaganda, which is an area Nigeria politicians and government apologist, were good at. I will love to corroborate this with a statement made by Lt Col A.K Togun to airport correspondents of the Guardian on 27 October 1986. In the interview, when asked about Dele Giwa's killing and the suspicion in the public that he was killed by the government, Togun was quoted as saying "...one person cannot come out to blackmail us. I am an expert in blackmail. I can blackmail very well. I studied propaganda so no one person can come and blackmail us after an agreement..."
Another lie that is very hot was the statement credited to Army Chief on Boko Haram Kidnapping of no fewer than 100 female students of the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State, were on Monday night abducted by members of the outlawed militant Islamic sect. In which
Brigadier General Chris Olukolade had on Wednesday issued a statement claiming that 107 of the kidnapped SSS-3 girls had been freed.
His statement reads thus: “More students of the Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok have been freed this evening in the ongoing search and rescue operations to free the abducted students with this development, the principal of the school confirmed that only eight of the students are still missing. One of the terrorists who carried out the attack on the school has also been captured. Efforts are underway to locate the remaining 8 students.”
However, Mrs. Asabe Kwambura, , the principal of GGSS Chibok , faulted Brigadier Olukolade information and denied ever feeding him with such figure, she insisted that only 14 of the abducted girls had been freed as announced earlier by Governor Kashim Shettima.
Mrs. Kwambura, said thus:“There is nothing in the statement issued by the military that is true about our abducted girls. Up till now, we are still waiting and praying for the safe return of the students; all I know is that we have only 14 of them, and the security people, especially the vigilante and the well-meaning volunteers of Gwoza, are still out there searching for them. The military people too are in the bush searching. So we have not received any information that they have the students yet. So let it be clear that all the information passed on through the media by the military concerning 107 girls is not true. I, as the principal, did not give anybody any figure on released students other than what His Excellency, Governor Kashim Shettima had informed the media,”
Murder this is also old news, Chief Bola Ige was murdered in our very own eyes in Nigeria. Funsho Williams, Chief Alfred Rewane, Chief Bisoye Teju-Osho, Dele Giwa etc ,etc.
Bad road, electricity problem, housing issues, low standard of education; raping, stealing, armed robbery, ritual,Pen robbery, fraud at the high level in the banking sector, Cecila Ibru is a good example. All are old news.
Justice delay is said to be justice denial, which is also the case of fraud levelled against Erastus Akingbola, born again Christian and Redeemed Church Pastor. ‘Akingbola who is standing trial on a 22-count charge of conspiracy and stealing of N47.1bn belonging to the Intercontinental Bank (now Access Bank Plc), at the Lagos High Court, Ikeja, was earlier arraigned before Justice Habeeb Abiru in 2011 and later to transferred to Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo when Justice Abiru was elevated to the Court of Appeal; however, the third judge, Justice Lawal Akapo is the third judge who took over following the transfer of Onigbanjo to the commercial court, from the criminal court of the Lagos Judiciary.’
This is a pure case of justice delay is justice denial, because N47.1 bn is not a small amounts of money, all the owners of this money cannot wait any longer for Akingbola and co. to be enjoying what they did not work for. This was also old news.
