The kegites club (formerly Palm wine drunkards club) is the most popular socio-cultural club in the Nigeria.  The club was founded in 1962  by just seven students of the then NIGERIAN COLLEGE OF ARTS SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, Ibadan, who gathered themselves to rejoice with palm wine upon hearing that in the next morning there school will become a full fledged  university.

The club was formally formed in (1962). The club had its 1st chief in the person of Professor Olusegun Adesina.

The club was then moved to university of Ife, Ile Ife which is now the World Headquarter, while the school of Arts, Science and technology (now Polytechnic Ibadan) became the Mother Shrine; and University of Ibadan, as the National headquarters. In 1968, L.S.F Dupe Ajayi, was the 1st female member (okpeke to join the club. The club started spreading to other schools in Nigeria with Ilya Du Tractor (Federal College of Agriculture Akure Ondo State Nigeria) as the first Ilya to get a Keg of Office (accreditation) from the World Headquarters, in 1974.

In 1986, Chief Anthony Uzodinma Ogidi became the first Igbo man to be made a World Chief and it was during his one year reign that the name of the Club was changed from ‘Palm Wine Drunkards Club’ to Kegites Club. The club also modified its motto from the initial Palm wine, the Basis of African Unity and World Peace to 'Unity in Diversity'.

Members of Kegites Club“ are people who believe in unity in diversity, they have their own culture and tradition, they love coming together to share ideas and create opportunity for its members, they are mostly students, fellows (external members ) and their tradition is been carried out in the public for everyone to have a clear conscience on them.”

Late Chief ObafemiAwolowo was the Eternal Grand Patron of the club who was succeeded by Ex-President Chief OlusegunObasanjo

Kegites Club has remained one club with branches in almost all institutions of higher learning and reputed to have the largest members and admirers in the tertiary institutions of Nigeria.
