OSINBAJO RISKS IMPEACHMENT OVER STATEMENT ON POWERS OF CONFIRMATION

Strong indications emerged on Tuesday that the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo risks being impeached if the executive fails to carry out the decisions of the Senators as the Senate has asked him to as a matter of urgency withdraw his statement that the National Assembly lacks the powers to confirm nominations from the President.

The Senate has also vowed to suspend all issues relating to confirmation from the Executive until such matters of confirmation as contained in the constitution were strictly adhered to, just as it urged the Acting President to respect the constitution of the land.

The Senate has also asked Acting President Osinbajo to respect rejections of nominees by the Senate.

Resolutions of the Senate were sequel to a point of Order raised by Senator Ahmed Sani, APC, Zamfara West that a letter from Acting President Osinbajo on the appointment of Lanre Gbajabiamila as the Director General, National Lottery Commission.

Soon after Senate President Bukola Saraki read the letter from the Acting President, Senator Ahned Sani raised the point of Order which later generated hot debate from other Senators.

" SHUT UP YOUR MOUTH OR I EXPOSE YOUR WIFE"~~AMAECHI THREATENS WIKE

Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation,  on Tuesday verbally attacked his successor, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, and threatened to expose the governor’s wife “if he (Wike) does not shut up his mouth.”

Amaechi, who was visibly angry at the allegation levelled against his wife by the Rivers governor, also described his successor as a thug who could hardly speak good English.

PUNCH reports that on Monday, Wike alleged that each commissioner and local government chairman in Rivers State paid the erstwhile governor’s wife, Judith, N3m and N2m monthly, respectively.

But when asked to react to this while speaking on the sidelines of an inspection programme at the Kaduna Dry Port, Amaechi replied,

“By accident of Goodluck Jonathan, I don’t want to attribute it to God, but by the accident of Jonathan, the man takes office and talks rubbish.
My wife and family, including my younger brothers and sisters, no one had access to government when I was governor.
“Even as minister, nobody will have such because it is not a family business. It is government business. But the problem with Nyesom Wike, and I want you to state this if he doesn’t shut up his mouth and do his work, I will bring his wife to the focus.
You see I’ve been very matured not to talk about his wife.
“But if Wike does not close his mouth and talk about my wife anymore, I will bring out his wife. My wife will never do such, we don’t do family business. I care about transparency. My wife is a trader. She buys and sells and Wike knows that.”

When asked why he was also accused of squandering over N30bn belonging to Rivers State, Amaechi said:

“And you believe that? The man who says he has about $50m in Lagos and could not prove it is the same man you believe. The man who said I didn’t pay salaries until I left office and now he is saying no, it is pensioners that I didn’t pay. Do you believe such a man?
“Do you think such a man is well? You believe Nyesom Wike is well? First, he doesn’t know how to speak English, he is poorly dressed, he is a thug, and you bring me to focus with that kind of a man?”
On the decision of the Rivers government to handle some of the issues levelled against him in court, the transportation minister declared that his team was not given fair hearing by the panel set up in the state.
Amaechi said:

“Which court, okay let him go to court. He has no fact and he maligns people’s character. The process is that you set up a tribunal, but we’ve questioned the tribunal, we were not given a fair hearing.
“Again, how do you know how the court came to its decision? We were not even informed.
There is a panel of justices in Rivers State, which is the Court of Appeal. But by the time we knew it, they took away that matter from them and gave it to a panel that came from Adamawa.”

KANU IS NOT A LEADER OF THOUGHT IN THE SOUTH EAST~~PRESIDENCY

Special Adviser to the president on political matters, Babafemi Ojudu, says the presidency does not consider leader of the Indeginous People of Biafra IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, as a leader of thought in the South East. Speaking to journalists on Sunday, Ojudu said the consultations currently being carried out by acting president Yemi Osinbajo is strictly with identifiable leaders of thought and at the moment, Kanu is not one of such leaders in the South East.

He said:

“Well, the thing is that we were looking for leaders of the people, leaders of thought and we do not see him (Kanu) as a leader of thought in the east. May be opportunity will come at one time or the other for him to be engaged. But so far, what we have done is to look at people who have influence in the communities, whether it is religious, whether it is traditional, whether it is political, social or governance. These are the people we brought in for discussion”.

BIAFRA AGITATORS ARE JOKERS~~ SENATOR LANRE TEJUOSO

Senator Lanre Tejuoso, (APC – Ogun Central) says those agitating for Biafra were joking as the South-East people are still represented in the National Assembly.

He said the agitations would become a serious issue only when the people of the zone come up through their representatives in the National Assembly to demand a new country as expected in a democratic setting.

“As far as I am concerned, the South East is still represented in the senate; they have their own senators, they have their House of Representatives members, they have not come up through any of these process to say they want to form another country; those who are shouting are those outside the system.

“So, for me, it is the day, senators start talking about it, that House of Representatives members start talking about it, it is then that it will make serious importance, but we are running democracy.

“The day they said people should stay at home and they too stayed at home; their House of Representatives members did not stay at home and these are the people representing them”, Thisday quoted him as saying.

Meanwhile, Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina state has declared that Biafra will never stand, describing the agitation as a mere expression of freedom of expression.
The governor said Nigeria is bigger than Biafra, noting that even if referendum is called on Biafra, it will fail

"PLEASE STOP EMBARRASSING THE IGBO...IFEANYI UBA CAPABLE OF DEFENDING HIMSELF"~~JOE IGBOKWE

Joe Igbokwe, the Publicity Secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the APC in a lengthy post has weighed into the alleged corruption scandal hovering around the CEO of Capital Oil & Gas Ltd, Chief (Dr) calling on all Easterners to stop embarrassing the Igbos. Read his post below...
Just recently the DSS invited a friend of mine and bonafide son of Nnewi, Chief (Dr) Ifeanyi Ubah of Capital Oil & Gas Ltd fame to come and give an account of the whereabouts millions of liters of PMS stored by NNPC on his Tank farms. Since this invitation, I have read some funny write-ups online in defense of the Nnewi Chief and some trying to read ethnic meaning to DSS intervention.

Now the truth is this: My good friend Chief Ifeanyi Ubah is capable of defending himself and Capital Oil & Gas Ltd. He has formidable structures in place and good lawyers to defend his case. He does not need yahoo, yahoo boys and girls and frustrated political hustlers to defend himself. He does not need internet rats and professional pay-me-I-write-for-you fraudsters. What I have been reading about this drama online is totally uncalled for. It is ridiculous, shameful and at best, clannish.

This brigandage did not start today. When Diezani Alison-Madueke was declared wanted by EFCC for fraud in the oil industry, we saw this kind of shameless intervention from people who should know better and those with full doses of Western education. When Stella Oduah was being probed for purchasing armored BMW cars at astronomical prices, some Igbo leaders rose to her defense. They erected billboards in the South-East and celebrated her with a chieftaincy title, Ada Igbo Nile. The impression being created is that prominent Igbo citizens are being persecuted because they are Igbo. I call this persecution complex, leadership complex and defeatist syndrome.

It is even annoying that Col. Sambo Dasuki's defense is being done not by his northern brothers but Igbo who are sworn to bland defense of everything PDP. They are the most fanatical mourners of the loss of Jonathan and PDP even when the Ijaws have moved on.

NIA boss, Ayo Oke has been facing series of interrogations by the EFCC concerning the Osborne Towers 15 billion naira cash haul and I have not read any Yoruba defending him. Babachir Lawal, the suspended SFG, is being probed for contract scam and yet I have not seen his kinsmen rising in his defense. They allow investigations to go the whole hog.

There are litanies of such trials of corrupt people of all ethnicities and tribes going on everywhere in Nigeria, but it is only Igbo who defends their fellow tribesmen implicated in scandals.

Yet this was not always the case for Igbo. Indeed, Ala Igbo is noted as a land where our ancestors and forefathers abhorred evil and treated corruption with unambiguous disapproval from even pre-colonial times.

What is wrong with present-day Igbo? What we see today is not our tradition. It is not our culture. Let nobody rewrite our history, our culture, and our tradition of eziokwu bu ndu (truth is life).

We see this funny re-occurring decimal more in the South-East and South-South and it is becoming a national embarrassment. It must stop. I am told that stupidity is knowing the truth, seeing the truth but believing in lies. Igbo are a very hard-working, proud and successful tribe, but we need to come down from a 30,000-foot building to make sense to other Nigerians.

We need to stop this aberration that is demeaning and ridiculing Igbo in Nigeria today. We need to caution ourselves before we become objects of ridicule and butts of ribaldry of other Nigerians, as is dangerously becoming the fad in the country today.

CRISIS: POLICE SHUT ONDO HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

The crisis rocking the Ondo State House of Assembly continues on Monday morning as police shut the Assembly premises.

This was to prevent a fracas which would have occurred at the Assembly between factions loyal to Hon. Malachi Coker and Hon. Jumoke Akindele who are laying claim to the speakership seat.

Coker’s faction impeached Akindele last Friday evening but the woman insisted that she remain the speaker because her removal did not meet the constitutional requirement.

The Nation learnt gathered that the legislators in Coker’s camp gained entrance to the Assembly premises as early as 6:00 a.m.‎ on Monday

Coker immediately sat on the speaker’s seat in readiness for the day’s plenary.

The Akindele’s faction later stormed the Assembly and the embattled speaker personally challenged Coker that he has no right to sit on the speaker’s seat.

But Coker told her she is no longer the Assembly speaker because she had been impeached.

This caused altercation between the two factions.

Police operatives led by the state Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison, who were already at the Assembly premises to prevent break down of law and order, stormed the House chamber and ordered the lawmakers including the workers to leave the place immediately
